I agree, it is very much appreciated, RJB.
As long as we have people of the likes of oralloy among us,
gun control does make more and more sense.

Americans don't need to have justification.
and yet they wonder why most of the world considers them arrogant bastards
Not really. I doubt many of us care whether or why someone else considers us arrogant.
We are free. We can have guns simply because we choose to, without having to justify our decision to anyone. Period.
Yep, arrogant people don't generally care if anyone thinks they are or not. You nailed that one. But you can't lump everyone into your category. We're free alright. To tote guns around and shoot people at will for no apparent reason except for the fact that we might be so arrogantly deranged, we can even try to use that as an excuse to escape the death penalty... despite what we've done, leaving our victims friends and families feeling somehow cheated because not only have they lost someone they love... now we're just sitting in prison living off THEIR tax dollars! Whoo... Now that's what I call freedom!
You are so right Treya! Oralloy should speak for himself, and only for himself and not all Americans, as his point of view is actually an insult
to all Americans who are intelligent enough to see beyond oralloy's horizon.
Exactly Jane. There are many intelligent people in the US who see way beyond his horizon. It is a shame for everyone to be lumped together like that. Especially concerning something as serious as this.
I don't really want to get involved in another debate about gun ownership in the US. We all just keep saying the same things over & over again & I find that extremely frustrating & maddening.
I just want to say that I'm shocked & saddened at what's happened & wish it hadn't.
... & that I thought yours was a very good post, Aidan. Well said.
I agree with all of that, msolga.
Latest new piece of info I've seen is that the shooter wasn't a student. (NYT.)

People who support freedom have nothing to do with whether or not gun control makes sense.
Try again.

I doubt you could even comprehend my horizons.

Someone like you shouldn't really be talking about intelligence now should you. Or horizons.
There has been gun control in the US most likely for your entire life. So why don't you make yourself look like an idiot again and call for "the coming of gun control" some more.
A local guy (perhaps from maintenance, or janitor - not sure, but he worked at the university) was interviewed on NPR. He saw a person on the floor in front of one of the classrooms. As he leaned over to see what was wrong (he was unaware yet of the shooting),a young guy, he said he could have been around 20 years old, came out of the classroom and started shooting at him. Five shots, from three feet distance. He was extremely lucky, didn't get even injured. The young kid with two guns, then went back to the classroom aparently.
They still don't know who he was, his fingerprints didn't match anyone else's in the police database.

I wouldn't even waste my time trying sweetheart.
Interesting. It took only one page of responses to a horrible tragedy for this thread to degenerate into a pro-gun/anti-gun diatribe. Keep up the good, compassionate work, folks.

That's because you are too stupid to know where to begin.
Why are most of you freedom-haters always such trashy people anyway?
Sorry for jumping in on all the ruckus. I just couldn't bite my tongue on that one. You're right though Merry. But not everyone has jumped into that. Just keep that in mind.
Is gun control really the main issue here? I mean, this person (or persons) just lost it and started killing innocent people for seemingly no good reason. I realize the easy access to guns allowed him to kill more people than some other methods might have, but the fact that we have the freedom to bear arms, in my opinion, has nothing to do with the reasons why this happened.
Do people snap and just go apeshit like this in other countries? Is this an American thing? It seems like every few months or so, another wacko snaps and starts killing people indiscriminately. If we could figure out why that seems to happen so frequently, you might have a starting point to preventing future massacres like this.
oralloy, you'll only get yourself banned if you call people names. good luck with that.
Gun control thread is
HERE, by the way. Just in case you'd want to post where it belongs.

HEEEEEEEEE HAAAAAAAAAW!
That's all I hear... Have a good night.
I was listening to this story all day, but then had to be in a class all evening. Catching up on the news.

The anti-freedom types just can't help it.
And of course, any calls to repeal our freedom should be addressed as soon as possible, or else we may one day find that our cherished freedom is gone.
