@boomerang,
Holly has actually played a pretty smart game except for the first 5 days or so when she wanted to quit and Jimmy J talked her out of it. Hard to say if stealing Dan's shoes would hurt her - I think NaOnka likes when it's brought up since it takes some of the spotlight off her thieving ways.

If Jud wins immunity, I think she's a goner. Then again, you just never know with Sash and I could also see him turning on Dan or being persuaded to.

At the end of the day, the juries mostly do the right thing in voting for the winner. They set aside minor grudges and vote on game play which is bad news for Sash or Dan. Still irks me that the quitters are allowed to vote. Weird season.

Jeff talks loved ones episode, tribal council, who can win, who can't, and a lot more. Here he lays out the scene just after the immunity challenge:

Quote:
ONE OF MY FAVORITE SCENES OF THE SEASON
After the immunity challenge, the gang goes back to camp and now has to decide who to send home.

The moment of Chase, Sash, Holly standing in a circle as Jane approaches was riveting. It was like an Alfred Hitchcock movie. The other three knew they were going to “kill” Jane but didn’t know how to tell her.

Then… Jane starts to figure it out.

Jane: “So, is it me….?”

Cue the scary music…

Holly: “This is not easy.”

Silence.

Jane: “So you all been conniving this whole time?”

Cue ominous bells…

Chase: “Yes, there has been discussion…”

Jane gives a not so subtle flip of the middle finger to the group.

Then tears.

Jane: “My alliance have turned on me.”

Then anger.

Jane: “ They’re liars. They’re cheats. They’re backstabbers. I’m most disappointed in my Carolina homeboy, Chase. If I was Chase I wouldn’t show my ass back in North Carolina.”

Then the rage.

Jane grabs a bucket of water and violently dumps it on the fire.

Jane: “By God I started it and I’ll put it out!”

And with that moment I think Jane solidified her spot as the most “root worthy” person on this season of Survivor.

@Irishk,

Thanks very much. I read Jeff's blog with a lot of interest!

Could you please see if you can find a reposted version of Jane's arrival at The Ponderosa? I can't get at it, as usual, due to being blocked.

Under Jeff's blog, someone posted that she had a lot of nasty things to say.

Not as bad as I thought she'd be. She made them peach cobbler lol.

@Irishk,
Thanks very much! My wife and I watched it together.

I must say that Jane does come off as being very bitter and vindictive, at least for now.

I did think that Marty greeted Jane very graciously and pleasantly, despite the bad blood between them. Bravo for him!

Jane would not have liked playing with Russell in the previous season! Laughing

@Reyn,
You're welcome. I went back and read some of the comments in Jeff's blog post and found a good explanation of why Jeff's suggestion on voting at tribal was most likely not followed.

I'd forgotten that the purple rock pull is the default tie-breaker up until the final four. The fire-starting tie-breaker is used then, but only then, I believe.

Anyway, if they'd done it the way Jeff laid it out (Jud, Dan and Jane allying to force a tie-breaker), Dan would have gone home. I'm just going to assume that it was discussed prior to tribal between Jud and Dan who figured it out and dismissed it as being too risky, so their votes went for Jane. Of course, Jeff knew what the result would be when he mentioned it...he's such a troublemaker lol.

Why do think Dan would have gone home if there was a tie-breaker?

@Green Witch,
After rethinking it, I'm not so sure the poster on Jeff's blog has it right (although he's not the only one putting forward the theory -- several fans there are under the same assumption). Here's what he said:

Quote:
Well, I don’t get why there was even discussion. Ties before the final four are still purple rock pulls. So after the vote you have Fabio who is immune, and Sash and Chase who are immune due to hidden immunity idols. Then Holly and Jane become immune as they are the ones with the tie vote. Honestly, Fabio and Dan made the right call because there really was no choice. Either Dan goes home or Jane does.

So, he's saying that Holly and Jane would be safe from the Purple Rock of Death tie-breaker, but that's not how I remember it. There was a controversial use of it in Survivor Marquesas, though, and the rules might have been changed since that season - I haven't read the Official Rules in quite a while. In Marquesas, though, the only player who had immunity from the rock pull was the player who legitimately won it at the challenge and I don't remember there being any hidden idols involved and I sure don't remember the players that the vote was tied against not being included...then.

What is the purple rock pull? This is not ringing any bells with me at all.

@Roberta,
It's the only other tie-breaker besides the fire-starting one. If there's a tie vote, a second vote is taken. If there's still a tie, rocks are placed into a bag (one for each player voting, minus the holder of the immunity necklace, who remains safe even though he/she was allowed to vote initially). All of the rocks are yellow with the exception of one, which is purple and the unlucky person who chooses it goes home immediately. The yellow rock holders are safe.

I don't remember it happening very often. In Marquesas, they didn't take a second vote. Jeff told them to huddle and choose among themselves who was to go home or face the rock pull. They couldn't decide (it was still split) so they did the rock pull and a player whose name wasn't even written down in the initial vote pulled the purple rock and was sent home, while the two who were targeted were safe.

I liked the first few seasons when the tie-breaker was much simpler. They just used the number of previous votes against the tied players (from past tribals) and the one with the most went home. They may have developed the rock pull to discourage the contestants from engineering ties. Seems vaguely unfair to me.

So, tonight's the big night for the finale!

Anyone have any last minute thoughts before it airs?

If I remember correctly, in some past shows at the end, there have been tests of endurance, memory, or puzzles?

@Reyn,
Jeff Probst...thoughts on the finale:

It ends better than it started...

On NaOnka:

Quote:
...there isn't a single fan, other than her mother, who’d like her to come back and win.

And on his early prediction of who would win:

Quote:
...I told Sash “you will be the first one voted off your tribe and when I’m snuffing your torch, just know that’s what I’m thinking.” And here Sash sits, with a one-in-five chance to win. My other prediction was that Chase would win. But after seeing the season, I can’t believe he’s still in.

@Irishk,
Good stuff! Interesting what Jeff wrote.

I, for sure, would never want to see Naonka come back in another show.

As well as Brenda, I would have liked for Jeff to have mentioned Jill (the older red-headed lady). I thought she did well.

@Irishk,
No surprise for you, Irish. Sash didn't get one vote.

Thrilled that Fabio won. I'm remembering earlier in the season when he fumbled with puzzles--fumbled with everything. Was it all an act?

For all the so-called game players, I ask what kind of game playing is it to win the final three immunity challenges. What kind of determination. What kind of focus. I thought that was an amazing feat.

So Naonka did have some parents who didn't want their children in her class. But she still has a job.

How did Chase get four votes? He's a TERRIBLE singer. Feh. He shouldn't put all his eggs in that basket.

I could go on , but I'm waiting for you guys to comment.

Glad Fabio won, but he's going to piss through that money pretty fast. I think he's a smart guy with a goofy edge. Some it might just be youth.
I agree Chase needs to keep his day job.
Sash reaped what he sowed - disloyalty. At least it was explained clearly why he didn't give Brenda the immunity idol.
I'm also fine with Jane getting the bonus money, but I hardly consider an income of $50,000 poverty level. Granted, it's expensive to take care of multiple animals, but I was expecting her say something like $25,000.
Towards the end I liked Dan a lot more. I hated him in the beginning. However, I had to respect the fact that he didn't need to be there. He could have gone off with the two quitters to the resort, but he played until the end despite the discomfort. I also agree with Jeff that the affection shown between him and his son was really touching.
The finally reminded me there were some very wacky people early in the game and I'm glad they were voted out. This was certainly not the best the season of Survivor and I'm not sure I understand the Redemption Island thing for the next round.

Roberta, I really thought our boy was done for in that puzzle challenge -- what a come-from-behind victory and I'm still not sure how he did it. I knew he'd win the coin stack and once he did I never doubted he'd win the million. He may go down as the only Survivor in history to win and not quite understand how he did it lol.

I knew Jeff would grill Na's mom. They spent way too much time on Na -- she's a quitter and needs to be forgotten. Glad to see some sane parents from her school have issues with her demeanor on the show.

GW -- Jud was beyond goofy last night and I agree he'll blow through that money in no time. Note to Jud-the-Stud -- it's NOT a million after taxes and DON'T forget to pay up (Hatch was just released from prison -- in time to be on Redemption Island??)

Dear goofy Survivor editors: You kinda left out a big chunk of the show with the whole Brenda-turns-on-Sash scenario, dontcha think?? Stuff like that is kinda important to us lowly viewers in figuring out why he didn't at least TRY to keep such an important ally - could've been game changing.

Redemption Island -- not sure what to think. I could see the need for some hardcore strategizing on who goes when. They've done a similar gimmick before with Outcasts, but this time the players will know it's coming. And did I miss the location announcement???

Oh, and GW -- I agree with you on Jeff's question to Jane. It sorta backfired and he should probably employ that lawyer trick of never asking a question unless you're pretty sure of the answer.

@Green Witch,
I was happy with Fabio winning; he is after all my favorite Mambo. And agree Jane is hardly in poverty especially where she lives - it isn't nearly as expensive to live where she does as opposed to say CA, NY or Boston area.

I actually felt that Sash should have gotten more votes than Chase. Chase had no back bone. Although I didn't particularly like Sash and he ticked off just about everyone - at least he wasn't wishy washy which I have little respect for.
