@Linkat,
I think you're right. I've read that Survivor spends about $6M per season, whereas it's not unusual for some scripted shows to spend $2M per episode.

When Survivor started the back-to-back shows in the same location, it was probably even cheaper and they still bring in millions from advertisers.

OT...The Amazing Race has said they spend around $2M on air travel alone each season.

Wow, it's that much,huh? I figured it would be a lot, but not that much. this doesn't even factor in such stuff as hotels and meals for all, and cabs, etc.

Per my previous post, any guesses as to how much staff Survivor has on location behind-the-scenes? Cameramen and sound alone must be a few, plus relief.

@Reyn,
I remember seeing a 'behind-the-scenes' thing once for Survivor. It was interesting...the crew's interviews on their living arrangements and stuff. As I recall, there was also a film showing 'a day in the life' of the crew members, along with hired locals, building various sets -- like Tribal Council, etc.

I'll see if I can find it.

@Reyn,
Not the one I was remembering...but here's a behind-the-scenes from when they did Survivor: China. They needed a crew of about 400 for that one.

@Irishk,
K, thanks so much for posting those links! They were great!

Jeff mentioned that for that season, there were about 400 staff on site. Wow, I wouldn't have imagined that there were that many. Shocked

@Reyn,
I remember that they were really isolated on the filming location during Survivor: Gabon. The jury members had to spend the night at the base camp once they were voted out and then be choppered to a resort set up as the Ponderosa miles and miles away the next day. There weren't even any roads leading away from base camp. The unusual wildlife in that season was outstanding, though. I think that was the season where a camera man suffered so many leech bites when setting up a water sequence that he passed out from the loss of blood.

I wonder if the irony of the title of this thread, Survivor Nicaragua--Old v. Young has occurred to anyone.

Sorry, I disappeared again.
*waves to Roberta!*
I have an amusing story that you other survivor fanatics might appreciate. I was browsing Facebook, and saw that one of my very ancient distant friends was tagged in a Survivor party photo. When I went to check out the pictures, there were real Survivors there. It took me awhile, but it finally dawned on me that this distant friend, is married to Kristina, the contestant that Rob got rid of quickly in the beginning because she found the idol and was gunning for Rob. Freaky!
So forget the 7 degrees of Kevin Bacon! I'm 3 degrees from Boston Rob!

Yup, it's on my radar, too!

Although, I do really like The Amazing Race as well.

K, any thoughts? Wink

So what did you think about survivor last night? I thought it was pretty good. And I was glad what’s her name was voted off instead of the nerdy guy, he’s a character and should make it entertaining.
