Overdid it yesterday a bit with the weights - sore today! So only treadmil and
bike today - 20 min each or more, depending how interesting the (gossip)conversation is between my fellow workout neighbors.

@CalamityJane,
Sore is good, especially if it's the next day. If it's right away, it might be an injury. Next day is DOMS -- delayed onset muscle soreness. That means you're accomplishing stuff! (Or so says E.G., who has become a fitness fanatic.) (He started working out after I did [about a year ago] and now is your classic convert.)

Anyway, I've been sluggish since enforced time off for tending to sozlet after her surgery. Only worked out once last week. Went Monday, but didn't manage Tuesday (gym-mom was busy, and I kept planning to go but NOT going until it was time to pick up the kid at school). Today is usually my day off, but I decided I had to go to try to either get four workouts in (MWRF) or space three more evenly (MWF).

So, did intervals today. Started out slooow and rusty and unpleasant. Quarter-miles at 6 mph, 6.5 mph, 7 mph, 6.5 mph. By 7 mph I was feeling a bit better, and after the last "lap" felt like I hadn't pushed myself hard enough so did another .1 mile at 8 mph. Then my back felt twingey. Ah well. Seem fine now.

@sozobe,
Yes, it was a "good" sore and working out again did the trick to alleviate the
soreness.

You're probably still run down from the stress with sozlet, it just takes so much out of you when the kid is sick. You run pretty fast though - 8 mph seems unreachable for me. I upped to 4 mph but can't hold it for more than 4 minutes.

So when does E.G. find the time to work out?

@CalamityJane,
How are you feeling now, CJane?

E.G. finds time to work out somehow!

I'm bummed because I have been staying pretty close to my weekly goal weight (1 lb loss/ week), but these last few weeks (surgery + recovery) have thrown me way off. On May 9th I was 1.5 lbs off goal (and had lost 22 lbs total so far), today I was 6.5 lbs off goal. Phooey. (Gained three pounds during that stretch as opposed to losing two.)

Hopefully it'll come back off fairly quickly. Put in a semi-normal week at the gym last week (MWF) and hope to be back to normal next week.

Ran yesterday, pooped out after 1.75 miles but it was a decent pace (5.2 mph).

@sozobe,
Great! Sore muscles have adjusted and I feel stronger.
Oh wow,22 lbs. from January till now? That's very good sozobe!
From working out only or dieting as well? You'll be back on track in no time
once you get into your regular routine again.

I've skipped a few days in the gym this past week, but did some walking and
exercising at home. We're leaving in a few weeks for Europe so I am trying
to shed a few pounds until then and should step up my workout.

Sluggo(a) is working in the yard an hour or two each day. Exercise just happens from that fairly randomly - getting up, not easy for the not in shape oldie, stretching, pulling, bla bla bla. Good for the spirit, too, in that I get re-energized re what I can do, even without dollars to pour into fix up.

@CalamityJane,
Great, glad you're feeling stronger!

I'm down 22 pounds from my high weight but that was a couple of years ago. I lost about 8 pounds without too much trouble when I first started working out seriously/ consistently but couldn't really get past that. There was more muscle, less fat, but the number wouldn't really go down. Since I started this pound a week thing in January, I'm down 14 more pounds. (Well, I was down 14 more pounds, now I'm down 11 more pounds. Ah well.)

Just exercise. Haven't changed my eating patterns much. I've always eaten pretty well, just have a metabolism that requires that I exercise a lot or I gain weight. Slowly, but surely.

@sozobe,
It's still great weight loss over the past months. I've learned that I need a lot
of exercise too to maintain my weight, otherwise I gain - slowly but surely!

I started power walking - 30 min at 4 mph and it was gruesome, more so
than jogging. My thighs and calves are quite sore - a good sore though. I shall
keep it up for a while at least.

I finally got a short run in yesterday after a full week of not running.
The day was cold and rainy, but it felt good to be back on the road.

Clive and I did the gym thing last night. I seem to be on a plateau.

@CalamityJane,
Good sore, yay!

George, are you bummed about the plateau or is that fine?

Gym was closed on Monday, I've been trying to fit a regular four-day workout in, but consecutive days instead of the Wednesday break. Went T,W, R but haven't gone yet today and not clear yet if I'll be able to.

Have more aches and pains than usual, I think the day of rest in the middle usually helps.

Great accomplishment, eoe. Mall walking works for you, hopefully you're
not talking about your wallet losing weight too! Wink I couldn't walk in a mall
without stopping everywhere....

Sozobe, your workouts are usually quite strenuous and it affects your joints
more, so skipping a day in between is probably a sensible solution. I felt my
knees hurting from jogging and switched to power walking which is less invasive
for me, I don't want any knee injuries. Getting older is not for sissies, as they say Laughing

The plateau is fine for now.

Last week I was very tired and stressed-out. I must have looked it,
because The Lovely Bride was afraid I was coming down with
something. Luckily, I had a good occasion for rest and recuperation.
The Bride and I spent a couple of days in New Orleans to celebrate
our thirtieth.

Normally she is a late riser and I am an early riser. On vacation, I
generally get up and go out for a run and then come back and shower
just about the time she is getting up. On our first morning there, I
woke up and saw her roll over to look at the clock radio.

"Do know it's ten o'clock?"

"No, but hum a few bars and I'll fake it on the chorus."

She hit me.

Thanks CJ! My wallet is in no danger. One, I walk before the stores open, two, I'm too damned broke these days to shop and three, the merchandise is kinda crappy so I wouldn't be too tempted anyways.
