@Lash,
Like my on about the pack of Amish kids that bought a lottery ticket , and won. The entire story is about what happens when they tell their folks what happened.

@Izzie,
no, I didnt hve C diff, I developed a mild fever from my opeartions and Im doing fine now. Im merely healing the compound fractures and stuff.
I found that its better to recoup from infection OUT of the hospital ecosystem.

Now, go and rest.

@Sturgis,
I guess the point of much of these bizarre movements and tension are to make sure I dont favor one side or another as I heal. I guess I shoul ask more questions.

@CalamityJane,
well, looks like we sit at home and ring in the New Year . This goddam cast and brace make me walk around like a deep sea diver.

The cast comes off in another 2 weeks and then its real intensive PT with lot of in place biking and rowing. I really hate that kinda motionless gym ****. I like to see stuff as I bike or boat.

@farmerman,
Maybe they'll fit you with a virtual reality visor thing.

Or just close your eyes and imagine you're of rowing down the Delaware or biking the hills of Southside (in Pittsburgh)....unless you'd prefer climbing the steps.

@Sturgis,
Odd. That comes across as one of those maddening optical illusions. I can't tell if the steps are going up or down.

@roger,
Up, in this case I could tell. I can't always. Besides what'd be the challenge going down? To many chances to take a break and sit down without turning around first.

@Sturgis,
whenever Im in Pittsburgh I always try to get a hotel near a funicular railroad and a cab ride. Too many landslides out there. Too many bull sharks in the Delaware to row. On of the worst shark attacks in the world was in the Delaware back in the 1920;s . A buncha meanass bulls sharks attacked nd killed 4 kids in one day and then pickd off a few more in subsequent summers. They strung nets across some of the creeks and along the Lehigh River near Easton. Anyway, Im clor to the Susquehnna and its mountainous vistas (too many dams to allow bull sharks up the channel.
We kayak there and I cannot ever ee doing PT with a tv screen that is interesting enought to watch. I often try to read or watch Food TV on the wall of the PT center.

@farmerman,
I've come to enjoy kayaking too. Not so much out in the ocean (we're right on the Pacific) but along the bayside. Once we came too close to the Naval Base in Point Loma (San Diego) and they immediately came running out with their megaphone and yelled at us to back off. Shortly thereafter, a huge military helicopter hovered over us and once we waved and smiled at them, they flew out to sea. Real tense these military stations....

@CalamityJane,
I build these small boats all the time. Three yers ago as I was recuperating from surgery I bought a Chesapeake Light Craft kayak kit. Its thin marine plywood sections that were laser cut according to CLC designs. Its built using "stitch and glue" fastening technique (You glue the joints and drill holes on either side of the joints and insert and twist copper wire (the stitch) to hold the joints as the glue sets . Then the whole thing is slopped with more glue and the copper wire is sanded down so it all even. Then the thing is ploshed with two apps of a fiberglas curtain and painted with gglue, sanded, and then repeat with another fiberglas layer. When really dry, I sanded the whole thing down and coated with several finish coats of Epiphane yatch varnish. Its about 18" long (I first had to build a 12 ft worktable using 6" square legs and a 2" thick top made of 12" beech boards. The table cost more than the boat kit (I got it at a scratch anmd dent kit sale where 2 of the segments were banged a bit but were too dinged up to sell for full price so I got it for slightly lss than 1/2 off.

I used it only twice last summer on the River and I now have it hanging in display from the big beam in the center of my workshop(Its too damn pretty to use on rough open water, I keep buffing it). Im gonna rent a kayak this summer and me and the kid are going kayaking on the Juniata to the Susquehanna bridge at Harrisburg. (KIds got some vacation and itll be a last chance before he gets married).

@farmerman,
wow, that sounds impressive, farmerman. Can you take a picture and post it here? I would love to see your kayak!
The ones we get here are built from resin? I guess, looks like a mold and out comes the kayak. Out in the Pacific saltwater it's probably the best too.

Yes, get your son out on the kayak with you - maybe a tandem suits you better. Once he's married, he'll have other duties Smile
