So this Peck person -
He has written several novels that he describes as "among the best books published in the last ten years." He has also penned many book reviews replete with caustic and derisive dismissals of modern literary giants, including Faulkner, Nabokov, DeLillo, Barthelme, and Pynchon.

How far is he up himself, we ask???

Well gals, I hve finally done it. Although my horoscope said You may find yourself getting emotional about certain relationships, especially those of the more intimate variety. Things may come to a head, and you could be tempted to react on the spur of the moment.
and warned me against it, I have reacted finally to the emotional bullying of my husband and decided to say that under no circs will I have him back when the psychiatric hospital lets him go. I have taken him back about 15 times from various places in the last 2 years and each time it's ended badly. No More Ms Niceguy! It's very liberating. The whole thing culminated last night in my son ringing a friend to fetch me, to get me away from this man who was not letting me go out of my own accord.

Good for you Clary! You can't be a real Sag if you aren't independent. (She says, as Mr.P hands her a cup of coffee.) Well, independent of bullying. That is surely true and I'm glad for you. Let's hear it for Clary!
She's made her decision and I'm sure it's right. I'm on your side!

Likely you got this 'scope, then:
Quote:
A person or situation might prove to be quite challenging today, Piffka. This could be a lesson in balance for you. Work to see the other side of the issue, and realize that these lessons are incredibly important for success down the road. Try not to let your emotions cloud the true reality. You may feel like someone is trying to rub you the wrong way. Don't let this discourage you from following the path that you're on. Stick to your guns and go for it.

Hey, we do get different horoscopes. Yours is more suitable to me, really! Mine was:
Young visitors who come to your home today might find you in something of a dither. You might keep running around waiting on them, or entertaining them with conversation or stories. You might worry that this is taking you away from your regular duties, Clare, but don't let that bother you. Your mind wouldn't be on your work anyway. Relax, entertain your guests, and have a good time. You deserve it!

I've just taken the sleeping bag of yet another of my son's friends upstairs, as they've gone off drinking across the road! And I am going to relax with an old Sex and the City I missed. Mmmmm, freedom!

That one sounds imminently suitable to your evening, Clary! (Glad it's not mine though -- a houseful of teenagers? Argggh!)

20 yr olds, but no better! But actually, I say that but they are charming, well behaved and sweet tempered. I am a great upholder of the New Young, I'm sure we were more clumsy and anti-authority and generally unlovely, like the teenagers in Alison Lurie's War Between the Tates!

Good for you, Clary!! I agree wholeheartedly with what you did. Not letting you go is a very worrying thing, and it contradicts his claim that he has changed. How can he change what he has been like for the last... age... in just a few days? So, let me get this straight, you're not going ahead with the six months on/ six months off plan?

I just got back from Italy last night (well, early into this morning, but you know what I mean)! I hadn't expected to be flying home from Italy, or visiting Genoa, but it took my fancy and I decided to go on a whim. I had a great time, despite the many confusions of plan, on the starting day, on New Year's Eve, in the middle of the Czech Republic... but I loved it. I've written about six notepads' worth of commentary, but it's rather all over the place, so I'll post (the relevant parts) when I've re-arranged it into some kind of order. How is everything for everyone today?

My horoscope:

Today you might arrive at a sudden decision to make a long journey by air, perhaps for the purposes of education, perhaps for exploration, or perhaps just to see how people in other cultures live. Or you might decide to expand your education by staying at home and taking some classes, perhaps in the use of modern hi-tech equipment of some kind. Whatever you do, Drom, you'll probably pull new friends into your life. Have fun.

Hmm--- well, I just have gotten off the plane this morning; but today, I'm waiting for a delivery and reading 'Pale Fire.'

Hey Dromo, it sounds good!
I did the deed this morning, and received a huge blast of anger from Simon, but the nurses let me out the back of the hospital and he has his mum and sister to look after him. My horoscope thought there might be a special kind of healing with someone - well maybe it is, who knows!? I suppose I'll have to change phone no, locks etc, all very distressing. And lawyers..Sad
Grumpy but free,

Oh no, Clary; but it certainly is the best thing to do... whilst in the short term, there may be troubles, it will be the best for you. And that's coming from a die-hard romantic, and not a cynic.

What do the lads think?

Clary... that sounds like a difficult decision and a difficult situation. I'm sure you're finding the right path. Do you know Noddy's sign-off? Hold your dominion. I love that... very meaningful. Best of luck with all the details you're sure to be dealing with. <hugs> Here's my (your) horoscope:

Quote:
A disproportionate amount of communication via modern technologies such as cell phones, email, fax, or the Internet could take place today, Piffka. You may have discovered a new field that has captured your interest and seek to learn as much about it as you can. Or you may have heard rumors about someone you know, and you're trying to track down the facts. Either way, expect to spend a lot of time on the phone, or on the computer.

Well, I am imagining you'll be busy, Clary and possibly on the phone a lot but I think the "special kind of healing" may hold better advice. I hope your sons understand and will be supportive. Of course we are here, but... well, we ARE far away.

Drom -- What an exciting life you lead. I love it! "I think I'll drop into Genoa." Did you know anyone there? Genoa sounds fabulous & exotic to me, I think because Christopher Columbus was supposed to have come from there... and I've always liked genoa sails since they are so free and have so much power.

Sounds like you have a lot of transcribing ahead of you... someday you'll probably be a famous writer and we'll have had these sneak peeks early!

What about the extremely inexpensive house you were going to buy???

Thank you so much for your kind words Piffka. My sons are TOTALLY behind me and all my friends are saying things like 'what took you so long?' Even his mother and sister feel the same, so I am very supported.

Looking forward to Drom's travelogue too!

His mother & sisters are supportive of you as well, Clary? Oh, GOOD! I'm especially glad that your sons understand. This will be a wonderfully freeing and fulfilling time for you, but don't feel guilty about your decision, OK? Or, if you tend to feel badly about it, which it sounds like you have in the past... give yourself 10 minutes a day to dwell on it, really wallow in those emotions... then let it go and enjoy the rest of your life.

Remember that New Year's Resolution... HAVE MORE FUN!

Okay, Drom. Tell us how to do it!!!

Here's mine:

SCORPIO
Jan, 10. 2004

Horoscope (by Astrocenter.com)
Does it seem like every piece of your life seems to be pulling apart at the seams lately, dear Scorpio? Perhaps it is time to re-evaluate. You may be at a serious point in your journey in which major aspects of your being are coming into question and you can't seem to find the answers to why you started down this road in the first place. Have confidence in yourself and your incredible ability to cut through to the core of every matter. Realize that this is just a phase and that you are tremendously capable of working through it.

Here's the Sag week in focus: Very Happy

"A surprising piece of news"

Mercury moves out of your sign and into Capricorn this week, which encourages you to think more about your financial setup and the way your budget works. This is the time to talk to accountants, advisors, and anyone else who may be able to assist you with this area of life.
(Piffka note -- talk to the tax accountant.)

Venus moves into Pisces and brings a touch of charm to your home and family life.
(Yes, Christmas tree finally taken down.)

But before it does so it also conjuncts Uranus, which may mean a surprising piece of news associated with your family, or perhaps your property. The news will be positive, and may involve a higher than expected evaluation, or perhaps the offer of a grant or some other form of cash to make improvements to your home.
(This would be a surprise!)

With Mars continuing to move through Aries, your love life may be getting quite hot. Don't be surprised if you and your loved one have more than the usual number of arguments, or if you find that you are in competition with each other for one reason or another.
(Nothing noticed yet.)

But on the other hand, this is a good time to clear the air, and get anything off your chest that may have been holding you back from enjoying a rich and fruitful relationship.
(Time to fess up, eh? But what...)

Yes, I got the same Piffka, and I HAVE to talk to the tax accountant, I knew that! And what is more, I had already arranged to have our house valued this week - good one.
But as to the relationship - I don't want to get things off my chest any more!! The usual number of arguments had escalated off the scale. But now errant husband has invited me out to dinner, nothing more. I feel VERY in control of the situation, one foot wrong and it's curtains! And no coming back to the house, just a chaste kiss and send him packing to his mother's. I said if he is really serious about not wanting to lose me entirely, he will court me in an old-fashioned way. Meanwhile I've organised lots of places to stay in the next 3 months so I can be elusive - this is fun! I'd better beware of arguing, it lowers the tone in a restaurant.

Have a good week Piffka!!
