although i'm sure he could pull it off, lowell's never played 1st -- he's been at 3rd base for 1253 out of 1262 career games (9 @ 2nd, 5 # DH)...
It's the second hottest rumor after A-fraud and Boras' debacle.
Am I alone in thinking he is THE worst thing in MLB? (Boras)
NL: Rollins over Holliday --
Quote:Jimmy Rollins won the National League MVP award Tuesday in a close race over Matt Holliday, boosted by speed and steady all-around play that drove the Philadelphia Phillies to their first playoff berth in 14 years.
The Gold Glove shortstop received 16 of 32 first-place votes and finished with 353 points in balloting by the Baseball Writers' Association of America.
Holliday, who led Colorado's surprising charge to the World Series, got 11 first-place votes and 336 points. Milwaukee slugger Prince Fielder came in third, with five first-place votes and 284 points.
It was the closest election for NL MVP since Atlanta third baseman Terry Pendleton beat out Pittsburgh's Barry Bonds by 15 points in 1991.

waking up this thread for '08...
AL MVP: dustin pedroia
AL cy young: cliff lee
NL MVP: david wright
NL cy young: brandon webb
switching to ryan howard for NL MVP over wright.
that's it -- i'm locking in my picks!
Webb for Cy Young?
That Lincecum kid has had the best season statistically, I believe. Will the Giants' ****-sucking prove too much for voters to overcome?
We shall see.
@Gargamel,
yup, although the d-back's record ain't much better...
NL.
MVP
1. Ryan Howard (as much as I dislike him)
2. David Wright
3. Lance Berkman
Cy Young
1. Tim Lincecum
2. Johan Santana
3. Brandon Webb
AL
MVP
1. Dustin Pedroia
2. Carlos Quentin
3. Kevin Youkilis
Cy Young
1. Cliff Lee
2. Francisco Rodriguez
3. Roy Halladay
@fbaezer,
I think I gotta agree with Mr. Zappa there...
if 20-game winner mike mussina doesn't get AL comeback player of the year, there's something wrong with the process...
@Region Philbis,
Brandon Webb should get it ... 22 wins should lock it up. Lincecum had a great year, but Webb deserves it more.
Plus, his name is easier to spell.
wow.
they gave cliff lee AL comeback player of the year.
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3618087
wonder if that will hurt his chances at also getting the cy young...
@Region Philbis,
I don't think so. He was awesome all year on a marginal team.
I see him as a slam dunk...
@Region Philbis,
That's why there's Vegas...
(still chuckling at the rather quote, btw)
A pitcher who I think should get some consideration (though not win) for MVP but not for Cy Young...
C.C. Sabathia
I've been watching the Brewers this year, and Sabathia was unbe-freakin-lievable. He's gotten a lot of national attention -- derservedly -- for his last three starts on 3 days' rest during the playoff chase, but he's been incredible since day 1 in Milwaukee. Changed the whole attitude of the team. Reminds me a lot of the Dodgers' acquisition of Kirk Gibson for all of the 1988 season. His numbers weren't MVP-like, but he got the award for the overall effect he had on the team. (Remembering a game where he scored from 2nd base on a wild pitch to win a game in extra innings.) C.C. hasn't been with Milwaukee all year, and so shouldn't get Cy Young consideration, but I don't know that there's a player in the NL who was more important to his team's success by the end of the season...
@Rockhead,
I don't see how Lincecum's team's crapitude should hurt his chances: haven't looked up his run support, but put him on a team that can score runs, and I bet he's a 20-game winner.
@patiodog,
I fully agree with ya re CC (had him on my fbb team) but I think the league switch kills him for MVP as well...
@Rockhead,
Yer probably right. It's not a great year for offensive MVP candidates in the NL, though...
