I got a reply from them. It's definitely possible. Still waiting to hear from the co-ordinator about credit for the study I've already done.

BTW, the recent education changes that were just passed. As much as it pains me to say it about something the Liberal Party has done, it could actually advantage me. Quite substantially in fact.

Does it have to be an Australian university? One of my managers is taking some of his credits towards his MBA through a university in Scotland, but getting credits to his degree here in Canada.

I know that for the sciences here, you can take the academic portion through distance (some are even available through a special t.v. channel), and talk to the university about having lab time made available. A friend of mine runs the university bio/chem labs at the university in my hometown. He has afterwork hours available for people who work/have time conflicts. The university doesn't advertise the availability of this - people have to ask.

Would have to be one whose degrees were accepted in Oz - many, of course, are.

The advantage of an Oz one is that Wilso should be able to get to the "blocs" that most of them run - where they do some face-to-face.

I have tutored a woman doing English Lit. at a South African University!

The big difference for an Oz uni is cost. Here I"ve got HECS enrolment, which reduces the cost significantly. I have checked overseas institutions. I can't afford them.

Good luck Wilso. I did my degree as a mature student, fitting it in with work. Fine Art was only available as a daytime course and i had to negotiate and change my hours, which got more difficult towards the end, when those in charge had changed and weren't as supportive as the original people. Very very fraught at times so i know how you feel. I do hope you can work it out some way. The advice you've been given sounds excellent. In a worst case scenario you can arrange to defer until later,

Last 2 nights have been bad. So much so that I'm actually looking forward to going to work tomorrow. And not looking forward to Christmas/New Years.

Are you going for the distance learning?

What are you doing for Christmas? - just think of us freezing in England as you toast in the sun Crying or Very sad the weather is horrible - gales are forecast and probably snow- I hate snow!

hope you are feeling a bit better since you posted your message/

I'll probably go for the distance learning in 12 months. For the moment I'll be taking a leave of absence.

My 2 friends are very supportive, though not available at the moment.

Been at work so I feel a little better.

Applications for it finish on the 30th of September for the following year. So I've got until then in 2004 to convince my own employer to give me the time off. If I can't get it through work by then, I'll apply for the distance spot at CSU.

CSU? Couldn't you get exemption for the time limit - since you are applying late for good reason, if you want to?

NEVER believe registry staff when they say you can't do stuff!!!!!! Check with the counselling service, or the student union - do not believe the bureaucrats or the calendar.

Of course, you might fancy a rest? But, Wilso, with IT, you can never be too young, or so I hear....

I do fancy the rest. I don't exactly have the same problem as other IT workers, since I've already got a job!

Only within the company I work for. Not very likely for a sparkie, but no chance without further qualifications.

I don't know if it's depression or loneliness, but I could swallow a bottle of sleeping pills tonight-no trouble at all.

But it wouldn't work!
