That's if the Hitler from the early 1900's was brought back. If you meant reborn without prior knowledge of the early 1900's, it might be different. Who knows, he might actually get to be the artist he wanted to be.

There were some rumors going around that Hitler faked his death, and that the person who died was just a double. I don't know if that's true, and it could be just more Nazi propaganda, like all the other things they lied about.

Lucifer, I remember when I was a youth, they had a movie on the last days of Hitler, and there was some monetary offer if anybody could prove Hitler was dead or alive.

Hitler is so infamous. Everyone has heard of him. I was just thinking, I don't even know the emperor or president of japan during the second world war.

There's been all sorts of things on proving the death of Hitler. There was actual physical evidence, like his teeth, but other people claimed to have seen him in South America. But if he were alive, he'd be over a hundred by now, and I don't think he would be, considering his neural problems. Even Stalin is dead.

I heard Mengele escaped to South America, and drowned while swimming. The others probably tried to flee to South America as well, but some of them got caught, and were in prison or executed.

Time to clear up a few things.

Hitler wanted to be an artist, but he was short on talent and failed miserably to make a living at it. He won the Iron Cross while performing very hazardous duty as a foot messenger in the trenches, and was a casualty of gas (mustard gas, if memory serves). After the Great War he became a spy for the German Army. When he was ordered to infiltrate the budding National Socialist Worker's Party, he found an outlet for his passions. Hitler soon came to dominate the Nazi Party, and enthralled its members, most of whom were thugs, discontents, and losers of every stripe. Hitler managed to downplay the "socialist" ideals of the group, and shifted its message so as to have more popular appeal.

At the time Germany was in chaos. Many Germans had difficulty understanding and accepting their surrender at the end of the Great War. The German casualty rates were high. German casualties were somewhat less than among the allied casualties, the German Army had a much smaller resource/manpower base and attrition badly hurt their efforts. The German civilian population was shielded by the worsening military situation by rosy propaganda, and the fact that most of the trench warfare took place far from German soil. The defeat was a shock, and many Germans felt betrayed ... but who had betrayed them?

The German economy was a shambles. At Versailles, Germany was stripped of her Colonies and required to assume a large part of it's enemies war debts. The end of the Great War left every country in Europe in trouble. Russia was being Revolutionized by the Bolsheviks. The battle fields of northern France and Belgium would take years to recover. Millions of men never came home, and the survivors were often changed. Britain's old social order was shaken to its foundations, and it's never really fully recovered to this day. Everywhere people were out of work, and many might have starved, but for American Aid coordinated by Herbert Hoover who later became President. There were many seeds of the depression that followed, but the match was probably was German inflation. The new democratic government that was forced onto Germany, began to print more paper money to pay of its war debts and an inflationary spiral resulted. Paper money became virtually worthless, and business ground to a halt. Unemployment soared, and idle young men many of whom were veterans were left to nurse their resentment and anger.

That made Germany politically unstable. Many people LIKED the Kaiser (mostly the upper and middle classes) and looked back his authoritarian and military styled government with nostalgia. Russian inspired Communists were fomenting revolution among the unemployed and lower classes who were hit hardest by the depression. The Weimar Government seemed unable to restore order, and Germans of that day really craved order and predictability. As the old order broke down many excesses took place (think the musical "Cabaret"), and that shocked the sensibilities of many Germans. The government was blamed for the inflation and the breakdown of the social order. Democracy wasn't working it seemed many Germans, and the Army rose in prestige.

Hitler's make over of the Nazi Party played on all of those, and other opportunities for imposing a dictatorship. He gave the German People someone to blame for their military loss and current misery, the Jews. The Jews invented Communism, they were getting "fat" on the spoils of war, they were the boogyman. Anti-Jewish attitudes were common all across Europe, and periodic pogroms can be traced back for centuries.

Hitler's following grew, and he tried to stage a coup that failed. Hitler led his followers into the streets where they met army troops loyal to the government. Shots were fired, and Hitler faded into the background. He was arrested and sent to prison along with a number of his followers. They lived well, almost in luxury. Hitler's marathon speeches became so tedious that his companions suggested he write a book. He dictated Mein Kampf. It is a rambling, disjointed exposition of no literary merit whatsoever. The Nazis did get it published, but it failed to sell many copies ... its a terrible, dull book. After Hitler got out of prison, after serving only a tiny part of his sentence, he decided to take advantage of the democratic system and run for office. His quashed coupe and inprisonment gave him national recognition, and he was a sympathetic figure. He took to the stump, where his highly developed rhetorical skills electrified audiences. Hitler was an admirer of mussolini, and fashioned his Nazi Brown Shirts on the fascist Black Shirts. Brown or Black shirts, the political approach was to violently attack the opposition with fists, clubs, and murder.

Hitler and the Nazis got elected, first a few seats in the legislature but eventually having enough to demand that Hitler be named German chancellor. Hindenburg didn't like or trust Hitler, but he had not choice. Hitler had the Reichstag burned, and blamed the arson on a half-witted Jewish lad. He used that to legally assume virtually dictatorial powers, and eventually outlawed every party except the Nazis. Violence against Jews increased and laws stripping Jews of property, rights, and citizenship were passed. Now Mein Kamph became required reading, and book sales made Hitler very rich.

Hitler wasn't a military, or even a political genius. He was a talented speaker and opportunist with a badly flawed character. He was haunted by insecurities, and would not tolerate disagreement with anything he said or did. He was a captive of his own hateful ideology, and lived in a nightmare world rather than to sit in the sunshine. He mismanaged almost everything. His followers weren't risk-takers and consistently followed the Party-line even when it had little to do with reality. He confused maps with battlefields, and really had a poor grasp of both. He sacked his best generals, and promoted to the highest level toadies. He meddled in affairs that should have been left to subordinates. Rather than transport vital military supplies to the troops on the Eastern Front, he diverted the rolling stock to carry Jews to their deaths. Long after it was certain the war was lost, he continued to fight and no one had the courage to even suggest surrender. Germany was demolished, young children died defending their Leader amidst the smoking ruins of Berlin. Some of those children were hung by the Gestapo and SS because they didn't willingly go to their deaths trying to stop the Red Army.

Hitler was able to stay awake for those long night sessions by taking speed. His dosages and frequency of use increased as the war went on. He could no longer go to sleep naturally, so his doctors gave him increasingly large doses of sedatives. His waking/sleeping cycles became artificial, and his physical health went into rapid decline. His natural paranoia and insecurities were made worse by his drug addictions.

As the war came to an end, the Nazi rats began to desert the ship in increasing numbers, until even Goring was considered a traitor. High-ranking Nazis threw away their uniforms, grabbed up what spoils and loot they could get their hands on and tried to disappear. Some passed themselves off as low ranking soldiers who knew nothing. Some found their way to Spain, or through the use of Vatican passports immigrated to distant lands. South America was a popular hideout, though some even made it into the United States and Canada. Other Nazi leaders were either killed or captured and tried for their crimes at Nuremburg.

Among those rumored to have survived the war and gone into hiding were Hitler's secretary, Bormann, nd the most hated Concentration Camp figure, Dr. Mengele. Eichman was found, kidnapped and taken to Israel where he was tried and executed for his role in orchastrating the Final Solution. Others have turned up from time-to-time, but today most Nazi survivors of WWII are in their late 80's if they are still alive and will probably never be brought to public justice.

as a german i feel sorry and ashamed about everything that happened. I actually do have jewish blood in my family but thats another point. what I really wanted to say is that hitler was some kind of a smart guy who took advantage of the misery of the fist world war and with the help of his brilliant eloquence he turned a whole nation into a bunch of monsters !

since the last "hitler - der untergang" film, we do know how he was supposed to be as a private person. Feelings, emotions , and especially loving and caring for his dog. Sure - he still was a human being, right?

There have been prejudices concerning the Jewish People long before Hitler came up. They have always been people who were hated and pursuited !
But he was the one who made the plan and tried to fulfil it ! However I do think that - looking at todays dictators, presidents or Chancelors - if hitler would not have done that, somebody else would have gotten the idea !
Knowing what has happened during WWII , I think it is disastrous what is still happening today and how Nations treat each others !
And I especially mean the Jewish people and how they are treated...
(at least they are not liked a lot in france, england, and a lot of other places!!)

It was all about power and ideals ! But has that changed a lot (besides the ideals ???) ?
Sometimes I think he only acts as some kind of a "reminder" for other guys better not to do so...
