If you find my posts too long, don't read them. I am including enough info so that people can draw their own inferences and also understand the basis for my thinking. Some people might appreciate that, even if you don't.

I start off reading your long posts, then I realize I do not have the patience to read it like the other posts, so I scan over it. I do think that "writing for the reader" might be the thing to do, and "condense the main points." That might mean extra thinking, as opposed to extra typing. That should not be a problem, unless you value your posts by the number of words?

That is not a "textbook answer." The correct answer is: write for the reader.

You hit it on the nail - Firefly is laboring under the delusion she's Honore de Balzac, who also used to get paid by the word, and cannot grasp there's a difference. To wit: she's a fool, and an ignorant fool, and furthermore one with pretensions to scholarship - which she mistakes for agility with cut-and-pasting from Google links. Whatever 3rd-rate school awarded her a BA in psychology should refund her parents' money forthwith.

@Foofie,
Long posts are not out of the ordinary here, I guess people with short attention spans (I have to admit that includes me more often than not) would have trouble reading longer post. Should posters accommodate those with shorter attention spans or just post what the want and let each individual reader make up their own minds what they want to read as there are a lot of readers with different reading tastes. In any event, this talking of posts is silly.

Bottom line, they have a right to build the mosque at the appointed site because they have already went through all the stuff they had to go through in order to get it approved. It would be unconstitutional to not let them build it and they will build it and it will soon be forgotten except as something to be used at tea party speeches.

@revelette,
I think the majority of us active on a2k have somewhat short attention spans. I've even mentioned this phenomenon to a poster who's first post was almost 25 paragraphs, and told him that was too long for most people to read and digest.

Only one other person posted on his blog besides me, and that proves my point. And that other person just told me I did not respond to the originator's post.

On some subjects - cancer, dementia, and other life-and-death issues - many readers here are vitally affected by the idiotic disinformation spouted by pretentious fraudsters like Firefly. On a specific issue (dementia) I had to privately communicate with posters genuinely worried by the nonsense she was posting on biochemical tracers as statistical risk predictors - an issue on which Firefly knows exactly nothing. It's worth debunking that snake-oil distributor's posts for the sake of what Foofie simply but accurately termed "the reader".

@High Seas,
I hope they weren't posting links to opinion pieces claiming it was 'peer reviewed articles". I would hate to see a reader misled by that kind of writing.

@parados,
I took you off ignore to see if there was anything relevant to the mosque, the topic here. You can join Firefly in the illiterate and innumerate club, but if you plan to join that dimwit in posting alleged scientific "proofs", read this "peer reviewed paper" for a "potential cure for cancer":

This probably started in first grade with "See Dick Run"

If firefly was writing to a paying reader she might write to the reader;but as she is stating her opinion for free you have a choice of not even reading her words.

Rauf and Khan have every legal right to build their mosque. But the latest poll shows that 68% of NYers now oppose the building of the cultural center/mosque two blocks from Ground Zero. If Raul and Khan dig in their heels and refuse to re-locate, they will not serve their cause well. They will appear to have an in-your-face attitude when some greater understanding is called for. They should consider another location, at more of a distance from the WTC site. And not because they feel bullied or corerced, but because, if they really do want to build bridges of understanding, they realize the need to do that by their own example and actions, and not just through their words. By offering to relocate, they will be extending the hand of peace and healing.

I acknowledge that you have the right to make this argument, but I don't think it's really helping your cause. I think you're hurting your own position by making this argument. Indeed, you may not be the right person to be making this argument at all. I can suggest a better argument for you to make, if you'd only listen to me. And this isn't the right forum for making this argument -- you should move to some other forum and make this argument, only bigger. You can be as "in your face" on some other forum as you like, just not on this forum.

You should follow my advice. After all, I'm only looking after your best interests.

But, after doing a lot of reading, and giving the matter a lot of thought, I do think that the Cordoba Initiative should consider re-locating this mosque at least a mile from Ground Zero.

Why? So that irrational people can avoid having their precious little feelings hurt?

I still can't believe that we are talking about this as if there is anything wrong or anything at all with what they are doing. There isn't. These are Americans, they want to build a building in America, and that's the end of it.

Quote:
In a somewhat similar situation, Jews were highly offended when a Catholic Carmelite convent was build adjacent to the grounds of Auschwitz.

Funny, in Israel they are currently building new Temples directly over Muslim cemeteries, and you don't see a single one of these Jews who got so bent out of shape lifting a single finger to protest.

@High Seas,
I wouldn't want to join the dimwits at all High Seas when it comes to making claims about what is a "peer reviewed paper".

I just found your post a little ironic based on your claims in certain areas.
My only point was we all have our blind spots.

@parados,
You mistake venue for content - the same author has published masses of scientific papers with which only you and your fellow fanatics would find fault. Read the great Feynman's commencement address at Caltech - not to divert thread further no related link is being posted by me here.

How wonderful, font of all knowledge, that you are here to save all the poor misguided souls at A2K from the opinions and views of others. However would they manage without your superior presence and guiding light.
