@sometime sun,
either i blinked and missed that or he just checked in now and chose people to follow without posting yet...

i guess there are two kinds of philosophyforum people-the ones who showed up here screaming and kicking and the ones who showed up here silently watching...oh yeah, and the no-shows...

Hello there thak 45. It's good to see you here, although I will have to admit that your username is only vague to me (I think I do recall having seen it somewhere, but cannot be sure of the accuracy of that feeling).

As for structure here on a2k, the tabs at the top will be useful, (see Popular, My Friends, . . . My Posts, New Topics, etc. Additionally, for a full screen shot of all the available subject titles, click on the big 'able?know' at the upper top left corner of any page, and it'll take you to a big, one page spread of everything. If you see any names you know, in any threads, click on them, and then click the green (I think it's green, I'm color blind) 'follow' tab on the right side of the screen below that user's avatar (often enough simply some predetermined design) space, and then on your own personal profile page, you'll be able to always click on that person's avatar, and see their profile page, and then go to all their recent posts...and check it all out.

I hope this helps some. Other wise, one more good thing is to spend some time, and check out the whole place.

Wow, you guys are on it! Thanks Mark and KaseiJin. The structure (or lack thereof) that I was referring to was only actually about the a2k main page. From there there are a myriad of links to topics (many very interesting), but there is no categorization or even alphabetization of these topics. Beyond that, I can find no statement of a general purpose of the a2k site. Just curious (as always).

Thanks SS. Smile Can I call you "SS"? Anyway, how I go is fluid and ever changing. This does not mean that I should fear being lableled wishy-washy, as my uncertainty tempers my pride in knowing (or not, but thinking that I am knowing). As far as where I may land, I'm not sure that I ever could tell you as much if not all of me will then be on the other side of the ground. I can only hope that we can discuss it after we've shed ourselves of our currently; limitly understood physical form...

@thack45,
There is a statement of purpose on the homepage before you've signed in. Once you sign in, it no longer displays. Here's what it says:

Quote:
Able2know is a volunteer community where you can ask questions and get answers. It is powered by people like you who share their knowledge and help others. Ask our experts a question today, or join in our discussions.

URL: http://able2know.org/

There is a statement of mission when you click on the About Us link in the bottom navigation dashboard at the end of each page. It says:

Quote:
able2know's mission is to help connect people, knowledge and resources.

able2know is committed to providing these services free of charge. We believe the costs of developing and providing these services should be defrayed primarily with ethical advertising -- that is, an avoidance of pop-ups, spam, or other unreasonably obtrusive forms of advertising.

We seek to maximize the opportunities for people with similar interests and goals to connect, gather information, and network through the able2know service.

@KaseiJin,
Unfortunately, the usefulness of "who is online" is somewhat diminished when there are 1200 names to go through instead of a hundred or so. Perhaps at some future time, the software could be modified to automatically show either Friends or Followers as on-line when you call up your profile.

Call me SS if you like.
'as my uncertainty tempers my pride in knowing' brilliant words I would keep as my own, but not just also for me a pride in knowing but a pride in unknowing as well.
Previous forms are such a drag to have to shed aren't they?

Hi everyone. This is "Reconstructo" which is a name I only liked for 2 minutes to begin with. I created this name on this site before I found the forum, never used it. It was waiting for me when I joined the migration. This site seems friendly. Still, I liked the old site. It had the look.

Just so the few friends I had on PF don't worry, I wanted to say that I am alive & well. In fact, I 've decided to read more and walk more, and to leave forums alone for awhile. I just set up a new email address ([email protected]) that forum friends can reach me at. I'm still openminded as far as one-2-one philosophical discussions go. I think that friendship is necessary for sincere conversation. Well, I don't plan on returning, so goodbye all. All friends are welcome to find me at that email address.

Oh man that is a huge loss to the forum. I know I didn't always agree with your posts but still you provided a lot of great content. hope you reconsider, and im sure i can speak for a lot of others that your absence will definitely be noticed.

@onanismo1,
If you ever change your mind we will be here.
If you are still around and read this,
what has brought about this change for you?
It is a sad change?
It is a happy change?
I myself will be leaving in a few weeks for what could be for good, (the long walk)
but I do hope that I shall return unless I find a new hope and or new love,
and I do so hope you will also return if and when you can.
Have you decided to cut the cord because you find yourself when active in forums taken over by them?
I personally find it a healthy addiction.
It has been a real kick and pleasure knowing you here.
And will start sending you my writing or proud posts to your email address,
so check it and don't forget it.
You will be missed by me at the very least.
Your friend sometime sun

Hope you reconsider. You don't have to get obsessive about the forum like you were before, posting 12933 times a day. Read more, walk more, but then come on the forums to post a few times a week - it'll only take a few minutes out of your day! Hell, you're not planning on walking all day, are you? Gonna live as a gypsey?

Gypsies are cool, tough but cool.
What's wrong with gypsies? (sun smile)
The gypsies I know don't walk much and have very expensive cars and caravan mobile homes.
Maybe he wants to be a vagabond instead?
A wandering minstrel?
Lighterman?
Hobo?
No I see him as a drifter exposing a corrupt sheriff, falling in love with the local waitress and saving the life of a dog from the yokels who he names 'Stanley' all without getting dirt on his white T shirt. (sun smile)

Funny: I've recently been going for 7-mile walks at night through some 8,000-year-old woodlands near where I live, and greeting the Sun when it comes up. I've also been posting less here. We must be twins. Very Happy

Hi Sun,
How can you suggest something so absurdly ridiculous!!!
Zetherin would never call the yokels "Stanley"! How would he tell them apart, in the dark or on the telephone?

@mark noble,
I think this is supposed to be funny right?
You are joking with me?

Just in case, 'Stanley' would be the name of the dog.

And I was referring to the mis-adventures of the drifter Reconstructo, not Zetherin, but who knows perhaps Zetherin could be a guest star in an episode of the Reconstructo adventures called 'Deliverance from Dodge' where the hero of the tale meets his gun-slinging match in Zetherin in a competition for a case of Jack, and those same yokels try to pull a swift one and the hero's of the piece must join forces to claim what is rightfully theirs in honour and inebriation.
The ending shows them triumphant against all odds and they sell half the case to the nearest bar and take their leave in the closest Burlesque house where they both fall for the charms of the madam of the house, she's called Deliverance, she chooses Zetherin for his silver spurs and silk cravat and Reconstructo continues on his drifter ways with 'Stanley' the dog and one left over bottle as his closest companions who would never steal a woman form under him.

Hope this clears things up (sun smile)
