Really?

Are you saying that if I don't see the racism in Joe Wilson's remarks or the Republican's opposition to Barack Obama's policies, that I somehow am going against the civil right's movement and wanting to turn back the clocks?

**** you eoe! You can take that boulder on your shoulder and kiss my ass.

@dyslexia,
No, I'm having a good day. I'm just sick of this bitch calling me a racist because I'm not as quick to accuse people of disgusting and hateful behavior as she apparently is.

Especially after I just spent an entire day volunteering at a 70% black school in one of the poorest parts of Chicago where I built new shelves for their library, painted their hallways and classrooms. Which I'll be doing again next weekend.

I'm just ******* racist slime to her though.

whatever, "**** you" is not a productive response. You can always ignore posts/posters you don't want to read.

There is no productive response to the insults and **** that poster is flinging. So I've chosen to fling some **** back. I'm not proud of that response, but I don't feel it's unjustified either.

@Rockhead,
Her posts do not warrant any more of my vocabulary than what I've said.

I'm surprised that otherwise rational people aren't as insulted as I am.

She didn't name you; you're the one putting yourself into that category, not her.

Kinda interesting that you thought she was talking about you, if you're really so enlightened....

@DrewDad,
Given her past comments to me (on this thread); yes I assumed I was included in "people like...".

She can come tell me that I was wrong about my assumption and I'll apologize profusely for my error.

Why should she care? It's your assumption. The only one bothered by it seems to be you. You expect her to go out of her way to soothe your feelings, especially following that rant of yours?

Here, I'll do it: "There, there, maporsche. It's all right. Shh. Big bad Eoe can't hurt you anymore...."

at the end of the day you either come to the table with a supporting argument for your opinions, or you don't. You are sure that you are a better person than those who don't agree with you, which is very scary. The worse abuses of humans by humans comes from your kind, the kind who know that they are right and thus don't need to justify their beliefs or actions. You abuse your opponents and then wash it out of your mind with "they deserved it".

How are you different than a garden variety abuser???

You know; I think this is part of the problem. One should not be able to fling accusations and labels such as "racist" at people with as much cavalier attitude as she does without some rebuttal when she's wrong. She needs to be challenged on the bullshit she posts (like everyone here does, myself included).

The fact that no one is bothered by it is a problem with this board.

However, her post is pretty new, maybe there will be some objection to her hate-speech.

This is probably not fair of me. And I do have to admit that the whole South Carolina angle is important in my bias, because I do remember that they are one of the last states to hold out in terms of continuing to fly the confederate flag over the state house. Maybe he was adamantly opposed to that. Could be - could be that I am doing him a disservice when I think of him and that issue and this issue as related. I would have to know more about him personally.

Aidan, this is from the Dowd article that this thread discussion centered on -
"The congressman, we learned, belonged to the Sons of Confederate Veterans, led a 2000 campaign to keep the Confederate flag waving above South Carolina’s state Capitol and denounced as a “smear” the true claim of a black woman that she was the daughter of Strom Thurmond, the ’48 segregationist candidate for president. Wilson clearly did not like being lectured and even rebuked by the brainy black president presiding over the majestic chamber."

I get that this does not prove Wilson to have said "you lie" as an action of racism, though it seems so to me. It walks like a duck.

Perhaps i missed it but please, show me where you have supported your argument, that much of the opposition to every single thing uttered by Mr. Obama is not mired in the simple fact that "and let's go back to Maureen Dowd's actual words"Some people just can’t believe a black man is president and will never accept it.

Show me where you have supported your argument?

Thanks osso for bringing that to light. I remembered it earlier as well.

@maporsche,
I am not, and Eoe is not, responsible for your feeling singled out. You weren't.

There are racists on this board. Pamela Rosa springs to mind.

Discussing racism is a legitimate topic. If you have something to say on the topic, then by all means do so.

But you're trying to turn it into some discussion about your feelings. Try talking about your opinions instead.

You're hurting only yourself with the poutrage.
