I think, Miss Wabbit, that you overestimate Lush Lamebrain's significance. The idiotic claim advanced here that he "is" the Republican party only seems plausible because there is currently no nationally-known, popular figure who claims to speak for Republicans and conservatives. The Republicans are essentially leaderless at this juncture. For as appalling as Lamebrain is, he is no more than the outward manifestation of the inward rot of a lunatic fringe.

@Setanta,
I have never thought he speaks for the Repubs.

It just worries me that there is that much of a lunatic fringe.

@dlowan,
Don't mistake a large audience with a large number of followers. I listen to all right wing radio; I disagree with most all of it, but I find listening to left wing radio to be EXTREMELY boring.

By definition, it 'd not be a "fringe" if there are that many people in it.

IMO it comes down to the 10% rule. 10% of people are idiots, 10% (not necessarily the same 10%) of people are jerks, etc.

This is the 10% of people who want to be told what to think. 10% of the people is a huge market, though, and he's determined to hold onto it.

@dlowan,
It is fairly large, but one would do well to consider that almost nothing labeled "conservative" has been subject to serious challenge for about 30 years now. It has been a fairly simple matter to lead a large number of adults down the polemical garden path because for so long no one aspiring to public notoriety and especially public popularity felt that they dared criticize conservatism or conservatives. That means that grasping, self-interested demagogues like Lush have had pretty much a free ride for a long damned time. I think Lush has been in business for about 20 years now, and as has been pointed out, he has been cleverly marketed.

@DrewDad,
True.

But, with this race thing, and the foaming and all, and the US history of killing presidents, I do worry about people whipping themselves into frenzies and all.

I believe that some of the right-wing extremists which oppose President Obama are also racially prejudiced and would prefer not to have an African-American president,” Clinton told CNN’s Larry King in an interview to air Monday evening. “But I don’t believe that all the people who oppose him on health care " and all the conservatives " are racists. And I believe if he were white, every single person who opposes him now, would be opposing him then. Therefore, while I have devoted my life to getting rid of racism, I think this is a fight that my president and our party " this is one we need to win on the merits.”

THAT's what it amounts to; if Biden said the same thing,
he 'd have the same opposition.

If Biden said it, and the same people were waving the same dumb signs about a socialist takeover, they'd still be as dumb and unable to discuss the merits anyways.

From your post, U appear to be dum enuf to be unable
to discuss the merits of this point, which is whether Obama's race
has made a difference in this debate or not, anyway.

Wilson is a canny politician," Johnson said. "His outburst was a carefully calculated appeal to a particular constituency who question the legitimacy of Barack Obama's presidency. The symbolism of his act, which violated the rules of the House and attacked the dignity of the president's office, emboldened and validated those who believe that President Obama, despite having been lawfully elected, is an illegitimate occupant of the White House."

Have you any evidence to support your charge??? Seams not.
