I remember that our hospital delivery rooms/nurseries would go from empty to overflowing at every full moon. Maybe it works for horses too.... The next full moon is Oct 4th.

@JPB,
I'll keep that in mind. I am trying so hard not to be on pins and needles, but I'm not doing a great job of it. Laughing

I am hoping to have some more information about Miss Joy this afternoon. Pam is coming over in a couple of hours. Pam originally bought Miss Joy and Lulu from the rescue horse auction. She had them for a month or two I think. I'm not real sure exactly how long she had them before I got them from her. They had gone to Todd's, a relative of ours, from Pam's, before they came to my place so details are a bit sparse here. But I know she had taken them both to the vet and had them checked out, etc. So, we are going to sit down and see if we can maybe backtrack to when Miss Joy might actually have been bred so I can stop living on pins and needles thinking today might be the day. I'm pretty worn out from it!

I still know so little about horses. I learn more and more everyday and the more I learn the dumber I feel!

I will let y'all know what we come up with. Maybe we can pinpoint some kind of timeframe for when a foal might actually appear. Laughing

I had a different vet out because I was really worried about her not having the foal yet and I was afraid the neglect she suffered was causing problems perhaps. He did a thorough examination. This vet believes she may have another six weeks or so to go. He told me that November and April are the normal months, at least around here, for horses to foal. He said he firmly believes she would never make it to April so I am concentrating on November. At least this vet did a more thorough exam and gave me a better time frame.

Little Miss Joy is becoming more and more demanding everyday and she is keeping Big Mac and her two year old filly at quite a distance. Her milk bag has gotten fuller but the vet said right before she has the foal it will become noticeably fuller and there will be no doubt she is about to foal.

She is one feisty little mare. I swear she wears a watch. Everyday at 4:50 she is at the fence near the house where I feed them and she's whinnying to let me know it's time to come feed them. I laugh at her every time she does it. It's so funny.

So, maybe we can all breathe a sigh of relief for a few weeks. This vet really helped me not feel so frustrated or on edge about her. The vet said she is in really good shape and doesn't see any effects of the malnutrition and neglect that she went through. The foal is moving around in there and he could hear the heartbeat and it was strong and steady.

But I have to tell you, I think she's gonna give birth to a clydesdale! She looks like a boat in the water when she walks she's so wide.

It's my fault for getting everyone so excited. I had only had the horse a couple of days and I thought the way she was acting meant something so I got all excited out of ignorance. I do apologize for that. I have been doing lots of reading about horses to try to learn. The more I learn, the more I realize how ignorant I was.

She's doing just fine. Gets more and more demanding everyday. I can't wait until the morning I go out there to feed them and there is one more horse than I had the night before.

@Sglass,
I'm sorry Sglass. I've just been busy here trying to find a job, riding Mac, etc. I apologize for causing you concern. I will keep all of you updated.

I get these newsletters from different horse sites. I was just reading this one about horse pregnancy. A horse can actually put off the birthing process! If they are under some kind of stress like new pasture, etc., they can actually stop the birth from happening at that time.

Geesh, the more I learn the less I know.

Still no baby. I'm really trying to stay calm and just look at November like the vet says, but I'm not doing a good job of it! This mare is soooooooooo funny! I think she actually knows she's having a baby and we are all supposed to take "her condition" into consideration and she is taking advantage of it. She will whinny until I come outside and see what she wants. Then, she just stands there staring at me like I'm supposed to know what she wants! I guess I do know. She loves those apple wafers!

She really is being a butt to Big Mac though. She will rear up and bite his butt if he doesn't get out of her way fast enough. He is such a gentleman and he never retaliates. Too funny!

Okay, I really kind of hesitate to post this because I've been wrong so many times before this, but...............Little Miss Joy's milkbag is so much noticeably fuller today......................AND.......................that dip between her hind legs and stomach is almost gone! So, from what Farmerman (I think it was Farmerman) said about that dip being gone, we just might have a baby soon folks! I had my husband come out and look with me and we moved her around to make sure the dip wasn't gone because of her position. He said it is definitely going away. So, I am trying not to get really excited because of how many times I've already been wrong but I did want to let everyone know what looks to me like progress!

Thank you! I just hope this isn't another oh I think so and then it's not. LOL I've gone from being totally excited to being totally skeptical!

I can't remember and I'll have to go back and look if Farmerman said anything about how long it might be once the foal moves toward the back like that.

I know one thing, Little Miss Joy has been whinnying all day! She usually only does it when I come outside or it's ten to five and time to eat but I have had to go out there three or four times already today because she is calling me. I don't know if that means anything though.

LOL, okay, I can't hide it. I am definitely excited! I can't wait for her to have the baby and I can post the picture!
