@Arella Mae,
Johnny talked to Dan. He said he understood and didn't want Salina to be in pain any longer. He was sad but he cares enough about her to not let her suffer. Pam will be taking her into Dr. Odom and he will take care of her.

@Arella Mae,
Is one of your horsies at the end? Im sorry to hear. I had to put down a long lived ewe that used to follow my wife all over the place. She got side attacked by some coyotes a few weeks ago and was all torn up when I got to her in a small depression in the East pastures. I put her down with a Lethane injection . Sad when you have attachments to animals I know.

@Arella Mae,
I'm glad Johnny could tell Dan. I'm glad Salina has been with Pam this last bit, I'm sure she made sure she has been as pain-free and warm as possible.

@ehBeth,
She could not have been with a better person than Pam. Pam loves the horses and they love her right back. I know Pam is really sad about it but she can't stand to see Salina hurting. Now Salina will go run through the heavens like she did when she was young and pain free.

I sure hope this is okay to do and if it is not then Robert, just delete it with my apologies.

I was wondering if I could ask all of you that may be on facebook to do me a favor? My horse trainer is in a contest and the prize is going to be an interview in Horse & Rider Magazine. All anyone has to do is vote for Des-The Red Mustang. This is what you do:

You can copy the link and paste it in. I don't know why it won't underline and work.

Can you believe it? My darling mule, JJ, is a year old! Saturday was his birthday sooooooooooooooooo I threw him a birthday party. I was at the store getting party supplies and I asked the cashiere for one of the happy birthday balloons. She asked me, "Which one do you want"? I said, "It doesn't matter. I don't think my mule will have a preference." This lady behind me in line said, "Did you say it's for your mule?" I said, "Yes, ma'am. I surely did." Well, you can imagine the looks I got from her, the lady behind her and the cashiere.

I said, "but JJ is not just any mule. He is a miracle mule." Then I told them the whole story about his mom and sister being rescued by my friend, then coming to live with me, and all about how I drove all of you and all of my friends crazy wondering when that baby was going to get here. I even told them I had expected that Paso Fino/Tennessee Walker and got the shock of my life. LOL! When I paid for my stuff and was leaving, they all said, "You tell JJ Happy Birthday from me!"

Of course, I had thoughts of putting hats and plastic leis on all the horses, JJ, and the dogs and getting some great film footage. Never think horses or mules are going to do what you want when it comes to video. So, I have put together a little video about JJ and his birthday. I don't know about everyone else, but I sure had a good time at the party.

The music breaks up for some reason and I hate that but I really hope you will watch all of it. There is something near the end I would like for all of you to see.

Thanx to all of you! Lulu is the only one that really does not seem the least bit frightened by that ball I got JJ for his birthday, which is strange to me since she is the most skiddish of all my pasture animals. So, I am going to go out there every night after work and see if I can get Lulu to play with me a bit and maybe the others will join in. Big Mac is heading over to Trainer Dave's tomorrow. I haven't ridden him in a couple of months and there is a big trailride on April 2 over at Dave's so Dave is going to whip him back into riding shape. (In other words, he's getting an attitude adjustment.)

JJ's fame is spreading, LOL. The mailman stopped the other day and was talking to Johnny about JJ and about how he has watched JJ playing in the pasture so many times and how big he's gotten. There's just something about JJ.........................

@Arella Mae,
Friends of opurs have 2 mukes that they use for treks into the Appalachian trail and out west. THey say that mules are better suited to deep trail riding nd are waay more able (and willing)to do a days walk in the woods.
Ive been told that their mules are smarter than the averqge horsie.
I dont know. I know my AMish neighbors brace of 6 mules are like little kids when you come up to the fence with some carrots. They start performing very mulish tricks.

Little Miss Joy, JJ's mom, and Big Mac came home Tuesday. I was a bit curious how things were going to go in the pasture. Afterall, there is a new horse out there--Justice (pictured below):

and Buck is back, you remember him?

While Miss Joy and Mac were gone Lil Man pretty much ruled the pasture:

JJ and Lil Man are the best of buds. They love to play:

I tried to embed the video but I can't get it to work. Must be doing something wrong. Anyway, this is how the pasture works now. Little Miss Joy is ruling once again. She is treating JJ like he was just born. She follows him every step he takes and if any of the other horses other than his sister, Lulu, get near him, she chases them off.

Joy and Mac got close at Trainer Dave's and he's taking second place to Joy. Justice won't take anything off anyone EXCEPT JOY! He got near JJ and she backed up to him, whinnied like crazy and let those back legs fly and hit Justice in the chest.

Buck and Justice are best buds and Lil Man and JJ are best buds. I think it took Joy all of ten minutes and she had that whole pasture under her "thumb" once again.

I'll get some updated photos of her. She has slimmed down and is so beautiful! I need some new ones of Lil Man and Justice also. They both have gained a lot of weight and are looking good.
