It is my pleasure to share ehBeth. Dave is totally falling in love with Joy. It's like she is a whole different animal.

@Arella Mae,

I really need to get some new shots though. Anna is here so I'm going to have her come over and take some pictures for me. She has a "real" 35mm camera that does so much better than my little one. That side shot of JJ was when he was about four or five months old, I think. He is now 9 months old. Will be a year old March 12, 2011.
I was WONDERING about that!

@Arella Mae,
it wasn't that long ago when he was just a little guy with enormous ears
I'm enjoying the horse and young mule experiences a lot, am happy to see the photos. The last one, ehBeth, made me grin.

@ehBeth,
LOL! Oh I had forgotten about that! You know, I never would have made a conscious decision to get a mule. JJ "happening" into our lives has been one of the biggest blessings I've ever experienced.
She looks great, and Dave's explanation of what he's doing and why is really good. You can really see the light hand he is taking to get her started. She's a lucky girl.
You go right ahead Osso. I love showing off how well she is doing. She's come a very long way from being that neglected and abused horse she once was. Dave is taking things slowly with her because of her fear and it sure seems to be doing the job!

I sit here and I watch these videos of Joy and I have to go, "Is that my horse?" There has been such a big change in her personality. She trusts Dave so much and that makes my heart smile so big. I'm glad he's doing these videos so I can refer to them when I get her home. I'm going out to see her in a bit so I'm hoping to get some pics.
Anyway, here is about nine minutes of groundwork with Joy.
Had a blast out at Dave's today. I was wearing a long black scarf around my neck and it scared the beetles out of Ruth, his mule. His little filly, Jenna, didn't like the scarf either and she nipped me in the arm. Rocky was walking around leading one of the other horses. I don't know its name but it got untied so Rocky, the Rocky Mountain Horse, picked up the rope and was leading. And, of course, neither Anna nor I had our cameras ready! Dave tried to recreate the event but Rocky wouldn't put the rope in his mouth.
Dave said Joy didn't have the best training session today. He wasn't sure if it was the weather or that he hadn't worked her for two days. But, with patience, he got her to come to him as always. Here are a few pics. Isn't Joy looking fit? Oh, Buck looks a little rough because Joy took her bad mood out on him but he's fine. Joy has had a trim on her mane and tail. Dave is taking such excellent care of her.
Trying to get Rocky to take the rope:
The butt at the left is Zee, Secretariat's great, great grandaughter, Joy in the middle, and yes, that's poor Buck on the right.

@Arella Mae,
Fantastic. I just shared this with a friend up here who has had a couple of rescue horses up at her farm. She will so appreciate seeing this.
ehBeth please for me, tell her thank you so much for rescuing. It seems I have ended up with three more rescue horses today. Down the road there is a gorgeous paint, a beautiful sorrel, and an old mare all becoming thinner with each passing day. We ran into the owner of those horses today and come to find out Johnny has known the man for years. He wants to leave the area so he can find work and did not want to send his horses to sale because odds are they'd end up in Canada or Mexico for slaughter. Sooooooooooooo, he told me I could have them. The mare is 25 years old and he says is an awesome kids' horse. My trainer has been looking for an older horse for kids so she will go there. My friend Pam, who has a lot more pasture than I do, will take the other two and keep them there while we find homes for them. Johnny is going over tomorrow to see when we can go get them. I have a lot of respect for Dan. Admitting he can no longer afford to take care of them but can't stand the thought of them going to sale. He has some saddles and other things we may look into buying. He has a three horse trailer I really would love to get. So we could help him out that way. Johnny is going to get me pics of the new horses so I will put them on here when I get them.
Things are so rough for people with today's economy. It's sad.
Um, okay. If that's what he said then he's right. She has a very large and muscular neck. JJ has it too. Ty for the congratulations. I am so excited. Dave said Joy is the sweetest little horse. I said "My Joy?" Sweet is not a word that aptly described the horse I took to Dave. I guess it was all fear on her part. She's losing that fear and the real her is coming out and I couldn't be more pleased abut it.
LOL! Believe it or not his personality is like Eddie Murphy. Never thought of that before.

When I left for work this morning, I set my camera to take pictures so all Johnny had to do was click. Well, I should have told him I did that because he ended up with four of the tiniest videos of the new rescue horses. But! I have Picasa and can take snapshots from the videos. So here are two of the horses. He couldn't find the old mare in the pasture but he's going to go back. And, oh this is so good for me, Dan has this huge roundpen! Johnny is going to tell Dan I want to buy the roundpen and one of the saddles he has. The horses are in the roundpen. It's a big one and will be perfect for me! So, this is going to work out for everyone! Horses, owner, and me!
I can't remember if I posted this picture before or not. If I did, forgive me doing it again. Dave is madly in love with his mule, Ruth. A bunch of us went in together and bought Dave a new mule saddle. If you knew Dave, you'd know why we find it humorous he loves her so much. This isn't the greatest picture but I love it.
