@Arella Mae,
I miss having access to horses. Seeing your pictures is just so happy-making. I would so love to get my hands on Lil Man and offer him a carrot or apple, maybe help brush him a bit.

and that JJ - I think I'd definitely let him make the first move. Doesn't seem like a youngster you'd want to approach before he was ready. Lovely fella, but he's got some training in front of him.

Oh no. Little Miss Joy will be at Dave's for awhile. She's been there two weeks and Dave still has not tried much real training with her. She has major trust issues. Dave said she wants to trust but she is afraid to. She will probably be there for a few months. I do not want Dave rushing her. She is now a very healthy horse and I want her mentally healthy too. She will come around to knowing no one wants to harm her. I get so angry thinking anyone ever abused her but I know it won't happen again. JJ doesn't even seem to know she is gone. He has become Mac's sidekick. Everywhere Mac is, JJ is. JJ will nip the back of Mac's legs and Mac won't even try to kick him. It's really quite something to see Big Mac treat JJ like he's his child.

Lil Man would follow you anywhere for a carrot or a good brushing. He is the sweetest little guy. He has such a gentle disposition. I love watching him run in the pasture. He has a beautiful gait and looks like he is floating on air.

I think you are spot on about JJ. He might only be eight months old but he is one smart little guy. If he's ready to do something he does it. If he's not, well, he doesnt! When I was walking him around today, at any time he could have drug me across the pasture but he would maybe tug a bit to show me he could I guess and then he'd fall back in line. I can't believe how much joy I get from that little mule.

My trainer recently got his own mule. He said Ruth, his mule, is prettier than JJ. LOL! I had to laugh. Dave has never had a mule until Ruth. There is something special about them for sure.

Here is a picture of his mule, Ruth.

Little Miss Joy had a good reason, of course, for being so wide and out of shape. But now, she has been at Trainer Dave's for three weeks. How do you like her now?

I am putting together a little video for youtube. I'll post it when I'm finished with it. Watching Little Miss Joy with Dave brought tears to my eyes. She is still somewhat nervous but I never thought I'd see her like she is. She's slimmed down, shiny, and learning!

@Roberta,
Thank you, Miss Roberta. I'm so proud of her. She has given me so much Joy (pun intended) with JJ and to see her interacting so well makes me so happy. I don't want her to ever be afraid again.

@ehBeth,
I hadn't seen her for three weeks. I almost did not recognize her. This stupid video is taking forever to upload. Wait until you see her. I am so proud of her.

@Arella Mae,
Goodness, Dave's mule is a beautiful creature. So relaxed. Looks more "horsey."
Sexy eyes, yes.

It's a shame mules are sterile, Ruth and JJ would make some very fine baby mules later in life.

I seriously don't know how you parents do it. How do you keep from totally freaking out when your child is sick or hurt? I came home from work tonight and went out to pet Mac and he was limping horribly on his front leg. I ran into the house screaming. My husband was in the shower and he didn't even get dried off. He just threw on his clothes and out we went. When a horse hurts its leg, it's so scary. I was crying and so worried. I called Dr. Odom and thank God he was in the office and said he was on his way. He thought maybe Mac had an abscess in his foot. He said if a horse goes from totally sound to three legs it usually is an abscess.

Well, it wasn't an abscess. It seems Mac pulled the muscles in his leg. Dr. Odom says he just overdid it in this cold weather. He gave Mac a big shot and left some pain medicine for him. I am still upset. I know he's going to be okay but he's my baby!

So how do you parents do it? Really?
