@farmerman,
LOL! He was only a she for about 24 hours and oh yeah, he has a big head. He is a Mammoth Jack and I'm expecting a big, big boy by the time he gets full grown. Laughing

@OmSigDAVID,
Joy will let JJ nurse as long as he doesn't really hurt her. He is getting very big and very strong and when he headbutts her teats, I can't imagine that feels too good. JJ will be just fine. He will have his sister, Big Mac, and Lil Man there to keep him company.

I just realized something. Are you talking about JJ or that Mammoth Jack Jenny's picture I posted earlier in this thread?

@Arella Mae,
Nope, I meant JJ. Im sure that the bad boy's body is gonna catch up and you will have a many hands high JJ.
My neighbors mules are immense and whenever Im in the psture, they love to come up and chew on my hat. Im just 6 ft and I look up at them. They can be intimidating if you dont set the rules though.
I was hitching up my neighbors team once and I got the wrong mule in the lead (Left side) and they all started kicking until I rearranged them.

@farmerman,
Good advice about setting rules with them. Dave makes it really clear I have to be very firm with JJ. He says do not take my eyes off of him because he can run me right over. Of course, I'd like to think he loves me too much to do that but he is a playful little, well, not so little, guy. I am so hoping he gets to be at least 16 hands like Big Mac. I am thinking we are going to have to replace all of our fenceline though. He can jump a good four feet over something right now from standing still. So, soon he'll be able to jump that fence. But, it'll be worth it.

@Arella Mae,
Don 't forget his mouth either, for a moment.

In the back of my mind, I can 't help but remember
the pet horse who, in an instant,
tore off his owner 's entire left side of her face,
requiring many surgeries, after which the results remain shocking.

The time to be careful is BEFORE the trouble arises.

(Pardon my redundance.)

@OmSigDAVID,
Dave has taught me to never take my eye off JJ while working with him. I am more worried about the dogs though. JJ does not like them and he would stomp them anytime they give him the chance. He nearly got one last Sunday. But, he loves the cats! My black tortoise shell, Pepper, is his best buddy. The dogs chase Pepper so maybe he's getting them back for that.

He is still a baby but can you believe it - he is almost as tall as his mom! I will try to get a picture this weekend. By the time I get home from work it's too dark.

Here is Lil Man. He's finally putting on some weight. He is really a sweet little guy. Miss Joy goes to the trainer this weekend and Lil Man goes when Joy comes back. Could use some good thoughts and prays on JJ handling his momma leaving this weekend.

Well, Little Miss Joy is off to Trainer Dave's! She did remarkably well loading into that trailer considering we have done very little work with her this past year and a half. I'm putting together the video of her loading. JJ didn't get upset. One time he tried to talk but after that he was fine. Big Mac is the one that got upset. He heard Joy whinny once they got the trailer down the road and he let out answering her and starting running toward her sound. He calmed down after about ten minutes though. So, all is quiet in the pasture for now. Thanx to everyone for the good thoughts and prayers because it sure seems to have worked.

Here is a picture of JJ. I cannot believe how much he has grown. I went back and looked at photos of him last night and was amazed at how big he has gotten.

@OmSigDAVID,
If you would ask JJ, I'm sure he would tell you that Bruce Lee could have learned a thing or two from him.

The dynamics of my pasture have changed drastically since Little Miss Joy left this morning. It is very obvious as to who really controlled the others here and it was not Big Mac. It was Little Miss Joy. Now, there are three males and one female in the pasture. Big Mac seems to have gotten an ego and stepped up and thinks he is now the boss and ultimate authority. Strange, JJ is the only one Mac is not ordering around out there. Lulu, Little Miss Joy and JJ always ate out of the bathtub out there and Mac ate off to one side and Lil Man ate off to the other. Now, Mac and JJ are eating out of the bathtub, Lulu is eating where Lil Man used to eat and Lil Man is eating where Mac used to eat.

I am very curious as to where Little Miss Joy will fit into the herd when she gets back, especially after she's been trained.

@Arella Mae,
Y do u think Joy 's training will affect her fitting into the herd?

@OmSigDAVID,
Because when she comes back she's going to have been trained. She's going to have learned how a horse is supposed to behave and that might make it a bit difficult for her to take her throne back. But, she's pretty feisty so it might not.

If I had known it were possible to mix motorcycles and horses, Johnny would have been on a horse a long time ago. Watch this:

It was so beautiful today. My friends, Pam and her husband and I decided to go for a long ride in the country. Here we are just starting out. Isn't my Mac just too gorgeous?

JJ is growing so fast. His halter was starting to get tight and he just would not let Johnny or I loosen it. So, Trainer Dave made a visit today and, of course, Trainer Dave charmed little (not so little) JJ and got the halter loosened. I walked him around the pasture for about a half an hour after that. He did really well. I'm so proud of him.

@ehBeth,
Thank you ehBeth. They bring us so much joy. Lil Man is definitely a looker. He's quite unusually colored for a Paso Fino from what I have been told. He will follow you around like a puppy out there.
