To me, this Brit guy probably has some money. He's bored silly and would love to go somewhere, anywhere. The plane ticket stuff is BS and you should continue to treat it that way as you already have....
HOWEVER, to my mind, his asking you who you liked to see perform and then buying tickets to see them is a way to please you, not a way to buy you. The plane tickets... that's trying to buy you... but also, just wanting a companion and being lonely.
