@sozobe,
How we doing? I'm doing.
The spring wasn't optimal for, as you can imagine.
I danced through, but it wasn't with the best energy.

Things are starting to zip a tiny bit better again. I found myself singing in class as we danced last week. This week I started working up a couple of my classmates in a campaign to have them step up a level with me. My goal is have both of my dance classes be at the intermediate level in September. That'll mean a significant increase in the level of energy required, and sweat expended.

I'll worry about weight loss later in the year. Right now, being there and pushing the cardio angle is key.

It feels good.

Well, that muscle just above my butt dimple doesn't feel so good today (last night was particularly kick-ass) - but it's good to know there's a muscle there.

@ehBeth,
I can imagine.

Saw our local bellydancers perform recently, thought of you. Sozlet nudged me and said "you should do that." I asked why and she shrugged and said "you'd be good at it." I'm still interested, am impressed as heck at how far you've come with it.

Started my daily exercise routine again - it took a while to get into it though.
Hopefully in a week or two I'm back to where I was before leaving on vacation.
It's been hot and dry out here, so I am enjoying the indoor gym a/c more than
walking outdoors.

Have a great weekend everyone!

@CalamityJane,
You too CJ!

I'm up to 5.4 mph, two miles at a time -- not too impressive but definite progress. I'll be happy when I'm running two continuous miles at 6 mph, and will go from there.

Poor gym-mom -- my friend and workout partner (this is our third summer of working out together and/ or coordinating childcare so we can get to the gym) -- ran a 5K in May and her hip has been bothering her ever since. She thought she'd rest it for a while and it did improve when she rested it, but it starts hurting again every time she tries to run. I feel so bad for her... she REALLY wants to run and just can't. She finally agreed today that she'll have a doctor check it out. Fingers crossed for her. (I don't think it'll be anything too horrible but her finances are a bit fragile so I hope it's something fixable but cheap.)

I've just spent four days reuning with the 'Old Boys'.
Lots of drinking and eating, only some walking around Boston for exercise.

Two-Mile Mike and I jogged his eponymous distance in the heat and humity of
Chelmsford. First step back to clean living.

@George,
Wow, that was a long reunion, George and I can imagine what lots of eating
and drinking entailed - nothing too healthy. Yet, all work and no play is no
fun either.

In the next couple of days I'll look at a shelter dog they named "George"
and if his personality matches ours, we take him!

I just came back from a big walk outside. Couldn't bring myself to go indoors
to the gym - maybe tomorrow....

@OGIONIK,
Slow and steady does wonderful things with exercise, you're right.

I'm down 27 pounds (as of yesterday) and pretty much met one of my goals laid out at the beginning of the thread, about going to my 20-yr-reunion.

Oh, how was the reunion, soz? Great weight loss too!

Well, my goal was to exercise daily and with the exception of a few days here
and there, I did keep up with a daily routine. Every time I exercise I feel
like taking off a coat full of stress - it feels great!

Ognio: you have a tendency to give up easily. Start slowly and keep up
the pace. Don't go in with a bang and exhaust yourself and give up a few weeks
later. The key is to not overwhelm yourself and keep things within your
activity and strength level and build up from there, then you'll succeed.

@CalamityJane,
The reunion was interesting! It was surreal how these strangers I wouldn't look at twice if I saw them at the grocery store suddenly morphed into old friends. The freakiest one was an old boyfriend -- he tapped me on the shoulder, I looked at him and had no idea who he was, then saw his nametag and poof, it became totally obvious.

It was disorienting to be around so many old friends too, just in terms of old patterns. One friend of mine was always the responsible one while I was in crazy mixed-up teenager mode (I was kind of a mess in later high school as I became more and more deaf and wasn't sure how to deal with it). I'm now Ms. Responsible in general but I kept doing stupid things in front of her, which would make me more unsettled and more likely to do stupid things. It was weird.

Overall it was good though.

I've joined a rock-climbing gym -

Going 4-5 days a week, both bouldering and top rope. My arms hurt all the time now, fingers hurt, shoulders hurt. I've dropped at least 7 pounds in the last month and my grip and upper body are way stronger. And it is by far the most interesting and fun workout I've ever done, except for maybe cycling.

My goal is to be climbing 5.11 paths by the end of next month on the Top Rope, and V3 and V4 paths on the bouldering wall. I don't know how realistic that is, but I'm going to keep pushing myself.

sozobe, looks like it was a successful reunion.

Cyclo, this looks like a lot of fun - although I wouldn't want to ruin my already short fingernails even more. You're slim to begin with, don't lose more weight. Have you shown us any wedding pictures yet??

Still feeling sick, so I went out and walked for ten minutes. Then I alternated
jogging for one minute and walking for three. I did about 3 miles. It was so
hot and humid that I looked like I'd done a serious workout at the end of it.

@George,
Oy George, what's wrong? You got the flu?
It's very hot and humid here too - unusual for us, but there is hurricane
Felicia off the coast heading for Baja and giving us some tropical weather.

Yeah. Flu-like at the very least. But I think the fever broke last night. I feel a
bit better today.

Exercising outdoors in heat and humidity requires checking your ego at the
door on the way out. I've got to resist the tempatation to run as if I don't
mind it. Vanity of vanities!
