@Joe Nation,
It's 8 right now. Waiting at the bus is not gonna be fun.

A friend at work sent me an invite to a recurring meeting for Tuesdays. This meeting will be us walking around the city for up to an hour. Prolly fairly slowly, I'm guessing a pace of 2 - 2.5 MPH, but still better than just sitting around.

@CalamityJane,
Congratulations CJ.

You have to be proud of all your accomplishments.

@maporsche,
The operative word is "sore" maporsche Laughing but thank you, I am elated about
my progress.

jespah, having someone to talk to while exercising is always nice, despite the
slow pace. It's winter after all and a girl can do only so much outdoors with
freezing temperatures. Do you skate?

Joe, I am glad you're feeling good, but at 14 F jogging? Your cheeks must
have been frozen. Calamity(upper cheeks that is)Jane

I ran 4.89 miles yesterday. I searched my log and discovered that that is my
longest run since the end of November. I intend to work in some longer runs,
but not today. It's 13 with a wind chill of -4. Cross-training!

@jespah,
Good going, everyone, especially CJane with that 10-minute run! Progress!

I just got back from my third workout of the week:

M: Bicycle, weights, ball crunches.
T: Intervals
R (today): Bicycle, weights, lunges, ball crunches.

Added another five pounds to all weights today, the biceps were owie but got through everything OK.

If nothing gets between me and the gym tomorrow I'll be a happy happy girl. (Haven't been able to get in a full four-day week in quite a while, between windchill warning-based school closings and ice storms and snowdays and holidays and sick kid days...)

Oh and since I feel like I've reached a certain critical mass (literally I guess) muscle-wise, and want to have some sort of metric of progress, I've set a new weight loss goal too. I hate doing that at the beginning because I put on muscle and therefore put on weight even as I get more toned. That seems to have stabilized though so new goal is a pound a week. Three weeks into it, so far so good (knock on wood).

Thanks!
All of you who regularly exercise and lose weight are such a great motivation for me, and this is really the first time I've been consistently exercising, and seeing
good results, in mental and physical health.

Gosh, if I continue like this I might even run a marathon at 70!! Laughing

Today I put the new exercise bench together. It's greyish and a good height.

@jespah,
Added a third dance class to the schedule this week. I'm feeling a bit noodly today. I'll try it again next week, but I suspect that I'm not ready for 5 hours of full-on dancing a week yet. I think I'll stick to 3.5 hours hard-core, up the intensity of the practices at home - maybe really try to work with the videos.

And then again at 71,72,73,74,75,76,77,78, and THEN the local TV station will interview you and THEN you will mention us in passing as to how you got your motivation to become the faster, oldest person in America.

So, I've been hitting the gym pretty hard for the last 5 weeks or so, seen some great gains so far, but the last 2 weeks have been pretty slow going. Meaning the amount of weight I'm lifting isn't going up, I'm taking longer to recover, it's harder to run, my body is more sore, etc.

Starting tomorrow I will begin drinking 1 gallon of milk each and every day...I'll report back on the experience as changes occur.

maporsche, I have a question about that recommended workout.

You mentioned "chin-ups". Do you mean the knuckles-away-from-you or
the knuckles-toward-you variety? We've been using "knuckles-toward".

@ehBeth,
Five hours of full-on dancing would make me noodly.

Managed to get to my fourth workout this week, whoo-hoo! I again tried for the 2 miles of continuous running. Again didn't get there (sigh). I hadn't tried in quite a while though -- continuous running day is day four of my four-day workout schedule and I haven't gotten past day two in like a month -- so I guess that's to be expected.

I walked .25 mile, ran one continuous mile (5 MPH, 12-minute pace, so 12 mins continuous running, if slowly), then walked another .25 mile, ran .25 mile (5.5 MPH), and then walked another .25. So 2 miles total, 1.25 of that running.

@George,
Knuckles toward you so you're looking at the hairless side of your arm (or at least the hairless side of my arm).

Hit the road today. The temperature was 22F, which didn't feel that bad.
It felt good to be outside!
