There was a time, however, when the mores of the west were considerable less.....lax? A fellow having sex with a female, assuming both were single, was expected to do the decent thing by her and marry her. This was even more imperative if she became pregnant.

Sudan however has taken this to a new level:

Quote:
A Sudanese man has been forced to take a goat as his "wife", after he was caught having sex with the animal.
The goat's owner, Mr Alifi, said he surprised the man with his goat and took him to a council of elders.

They ordered the man, Mr Tombe, to pay a dowry of 15,000 Sudanese dinars ($50) to Mr Alifi.

"We have given him the goat, and as far as we know they are still together," Mr Alifi said.

And, yes, Dlowan, hubris is a word I've been saying to myself about all this - have noted in some past posts the ostensible attraction of the forbidden to the 'valiant' prosecutor..

Some article I read quoted Alan Dershowitz, Spitzer's former mentor, as saying he had wondered why Spitzer got involved in going after such a "victimless crime".. and I think that was long before this current mess.

Joe Nation's post here is interesting, that as governor he pushed this law, and (might have been, I dunno) seeing prostitutes back then as well..

It might be that during his investigations of these matters he became drawn into the clutches of these sirens. They say it happened to a British Prime Minister who started out with good intentions.

In which case he is a victim of primeval forces.

Maybe he hadn't read Homer.

Actually I think he was engaged in a oneupmanship game with Bill Clinton.

The latter got the BJ for free (Big Chief's rights).

And Mr Spitzer paid through the nose, suffered and has been severly punished.

If I was a lady, a condition I wouldn't mind having a go at, I think I know who I would prefer of the two.

I was just over on Foxyfire's thread and it got me to thinking...

Were the tables turned, I can't imagine Bear standing beside me as I appear before the press and the world admitting that I'd been paying men to sleep with me and be my eye candy / "business" escort while away from home.

What look do you suppose a husband would give and what would it mean?

Would it be considered uncool to eat the goat, roasted over an open fire?
Or would they get him for spousal abuse?

Squinney, her look is complex and I think I can read it, but maybe not. She may have had some awareness of absent times in her husband's attention, or more absence than usual.. fleeting concerns, guesses, or even knowledge, though I doubt that far myself at present; she may have had intimation that folks in departments were after him, she may have warned him about his aggressiveness, she may have comforted him when his aggressiveness let go to babyville; she may have rue and bitterness and vestiges of love. She has her own years of backing him to avail... this?

I'm mixed on her standing there, mostly against it, but not absolutely entirely. As I say about this, not my business.. and I'm still learning about human hearts or lacks of them.

Oh, I totally agree. The look is much more than "You aint gettin' any for a long time."

I was just trying to picture the scenario reversed, where it was the wife at the podium. How many guys would be willing to stand quietly beside their wife and what would the look on their face be saying?

They had it as "breaking news" on MSNBC a half hour ago.
Evidently he had an affair for 2-3 years, starting back in '99. He announced it himself after he got sworn in from my understanding.

I'm not without understanding of people swerving in a marriage. It's the prosecution fulgence combined with the play that seems like bad screenwriting to me.
