Re: NYPD Finds "Gigantic" Weapons Cache - Arrests

I'm going to try and follow this case. While 20,000 rounds may seem excessive, there are plenty of reasons you might own that many. Consider that Cabelas sells rifle ammo in 100-500 round cases. Shotgun ammo goes 250 rounds to the case. .22LR is sold in "bricks" of 500 or 1000 rounds. I literally have thousands of rounds of .22 laying around that don't work in my guns - they jam. Does that make me a criminal? Apparently in the eyes of the NYPD.
BTW I can buy an "AR-15" style semit-auto rifle at my local gun store. I have a huge "cache" of knives including some really scary looking 10" chefs knives and cleavers.
This was your initial post, cjhsa. It is wrong in multiple points.
The guy HAS threatened his girlfriend (who turned him in to the police, which is why they followed and arrested him) - so while he may not have hurt anyone physically, he was a threat, and an armed one.
You can perhaps buy AR-15 in your local gun store, but you CAN NOT drive with it loaded, with 18 magazines on the back seat. The guy had 800 ammo, and another gun in the car with him, and was right near the Wall Street. That is when he was stopped and arrested.
Say you're a cop. You get a call about a guy who has threatened someone, you run a backgroun check, see that he was locked up before for 6 months, failed a psychological test and allegedly posseses multiple weapons. You follow this guy and see him heading for Wall Street. What would you do? I am curious.
How do you propose to go after the terrorists if you consider actions as this one by NYPD unlawful? Or should the police and army ask you first whether you approve?
