outer covering.
The people themselves remain intact.  If u wreck your car, u don't stay inside it.
Its like when a lobster molts off his shell and he leaves the area, gets on with his life.
He is OK.  
Maybe think of it this way:
if your radio falls from your grasp n gets broken,
that does not harm the radio waves that made it work.

In my own case, I have been informed that I died 2ice during abdominal surgery in 2005.
I only remember awakening in the I.C.U., but I have had several out-of-body experiences, while awake.  
Most of them were on-the-job taking testimony in court.  It felt nice.  I liked them.  Thay were too brief.
