Hmm (standard disclaimers here), propped up on pillows, as upright as possible while staying comfortable.

Thanks. I feel like I've been sick with this forever.

hmm, upright for drainage? I was always made to lie down on my sick ear, as flat as possible, so that all gets out that needs to get out. felt best to be lying down too.

since we on occasion get "swimmer's ear" after having been in the pool , we are using VOSOL fairly regularly to prevent an infection of the ear .
it was recommended to us many yeras ago by an ENT specialist and we are still using it .
it is essentially a vinegar based product (ascetic acid) .

...VOSOL AND SWIMMER'S EAR...

you'll notice , that you can also make your own "eardrops" by mixing vinegar and alcohol (towards end of article)

Dag, lying down on the infected ear when it's draining out the ear sounds right. But, once the hole closes, the draining needs to go down the throat. I imagine this is easier not lying on the bad ear. I just try to find a comfortable position and hope for the best. Will try to prop up tonight.

I'm feeling rather skeptical about the second antibiotics. And I am freaked out about the possibility of losing more pay next week.

Hamburger, I did read a lot about prevention of swimmer's ear. Most recommendations included just a couple drops of alcohol dropped into each ear.

ah, there's that. my timpany has a permanent hole in it, which is why i can always drain it out that way. kinda handy sometimes. less so other times. plus mucus-y discharge every single day for more than 10 years now, also no fun.

There is so much controversy about the treatment of ear infections! Decongestants and antihistamines do and do not help. Antibiotics do and do not help (though I understand that one pretty well). Clean the canal, leave it alone. I'm sure there's more.

I have to read a couple chapters for school, but I can sit all day sat and sun. I just feel like I've been sitting a lot lately.

I think sleeping is what you need, dollink.

Lots of.

Rest is great for illness, and our bodies really demand it, don't they?

And chicken soup!!!

I have been getting 9 hours a night (except for last night) and when I can I nap. The problem is that the sudafed can prevent me from napping.

I'm going back to 1 sudafed per dose instead of 2. Maybe I messed something up when I upped the sudafed?

Is there really anything to the whole chicken thing?

I thought I read something about chicken/chicken broth. That they found something that was good in it for colds.

Took my first augmentin.

Blasphemy!!!!!!

Boida's gonna come get you.

I dunno...I seem to recall that it DOES contain something good...but apparently there IS something to the kyolic garlic thing.

Sudafed sucks.

My belief is that it prolongs bugs by stopping your natural defence, which is to have your body weep copiously to flush stuff out.

Ok, if you have to work, you may need it, so you can exist.

I'd consider dropping it for the weekend, and sleeping.

Just a thought.

I do plan to not take it while sleeping - any other suggestions for sleeping? Are decongestants necessary? Some say no, some say yes.

Er...become horizontal in a quiet room?

I use chili as a decongestant.

There's a very good Lao restaurant around here that delivers. When I get sick, I order this absurdly hot soup off of their menu. The pain is singularly exquisite, and it distracts me from my sickness, makes my eyes run, and clears out my sinuses.

I second the chili recommendation.

Aha! I forgot about the chili. I have used it to flush the sinuses. This time I've just been using the neti pot.

I love the Lao.

There was a Vietnamese stand on 6th St in San Francisco that had a shrimp soup that was good for the purpose, too. Dunno if it's still there. I doubt they moved to Boston, at any rate.

Lao? Is it the name of the restaurant? Or is it laotian?

we have our fair share of vietnamese and even cambodian (my new favorite) cuisine, even malaysian... but i failed to find extra hot dishes in there. maybe i just overlook the soups generally. but indian should work i bet. in most indian restaurants if you tell them you want it hot, really really hot and you really really mean it (repeat about five times so that they really believe that you know what you're talking about and are sincere), they'll do it hot enough.
