@Ragman,
Blackadder is so much better than Mr. Bean, a side to Rowan Atkinson that he doesn't usually let out.

When a woman asks you to guess her age, it's like deciding whether to cut the blue, red, or green wire to diffuse a bomb.

@izzythepush,
I was aware of Blackadder, too...but that was far more esoteric for many tastes. I was introduced to Hugh Laurie through BA. Most TV-watching Americans are very aware of Hugh now..but are shocked to see how funny he was and hear how Brit his accent really is as they know him through the hit medical show House.

I agree but Americans were more attuned to the slapstick Mr. Bean

I loved Fry and Laurie - always enjoyed The Two Ronnies - hated Benny Hill - rather enjoyed Blackadder - and don't find stand-up comedy very amusing. And going way back to the 60's, totally adored The Frost Report, Monty Python and - very early 60's - That Was The Week That Was, possibly my favourite! Here's a clip from the Two Ronnies which is a take on an earlier Frost Report sketch.

Perhaps it is because of my wonderful, unforgetable two years of living in the UK...but I absolutely love bloke humor. Monty Python is my favorite...but even the "Carry On" stuff I loved. Bean does bore me.

Not at all.

"Bloke" was the US military term for anything British. It was not in any way a derogatory way…not even slightly. It was meant to mean “British”…as in, “I met this great bloke girl at the NAFFI yesterday” or “We need bloke money for that…they won’t take scrip.”

Bloke humor is GREAT.

I got my A Levels in Wales in the 60's and was introduced to The Goon Squad, Flanders and Swann and The Ladykillers which I love to this day.

We all have our quirks about humor. I get bored by Monty Python, but love the Mr Bean shows that I saw on PBC.

I normally dislike slapstick, but Benny Hill was the master.

Ah, that's just me being touchy - I thought you meant bloke, as in chap, as in men only! Embarrassed

@Frank Apisa,
If you like sketch shows, The Fast Show, Mitchell and Webb, Ruddy 'Ell It's Harry and Paul and Armstrong and Miller are all very good.

For sitcoms, Peep Show, and anything penned by the best living British comedy screenwriter, who's actually Irish, Graham Lineham, Father Ted, The IT Crowd, Black Books and Count Arthur Strong.

Are you watching the same Monty Python skits I'm watching?

@DrewDad,
hahaha..I was speaking in generalities.

B'sides ...on some occasions, Monty Python writers at times slipped in some literary allusions and sophisticated humor along with the absurd slapstick and downright sillinesses.

@izzythepush,
It's hilarious - but, oh dear, not so far off the mark. There are STILL a number of men who treat women like that - mainly men in their 60's and older - 'old school'! Rolling Eyes Twisted Evil

A bloke is a person who after ripping a snorter off says "fall out the officers".
