If you can't cry any more over spilled oil, how about a chuckle?

Quote:
As oil continues to wash ashore from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, emergency workers in the western German town of Schillig aboard the multipurpose ship Neuwerk practiced responding to potential oil spills in the North and Baltic seas on Wednesday. For their drills, the workers used eight cubic meters of an alternative substance to simulate oil spills that doesn't come with the catastrophic environmental side-effects: popcorn. When poured into water, popcorn moves in a manner similar to oil slicks, and it can be a valuable tool in practicing oil disaster clean-up measures.

@tsarstepan,
well sure, that "BUTTERY" topping they put on popcorn is made of crude oil

@tsarstepan,
That's interesting. I first took it as a spoof, but it seems useful. But, re where they are pouring it.. is that the Baltic? (or a river?)

@ossobuco,
No spoof at all. We have oil blowout; Germany trains to deal with oil spills. Whatsamatta' with that?

@roger,
Dummie still isn't clear.. spoof, or not? I suppose it is, as oil and popcorn would have different, um, properties re distribution in moving water. Or would they..

Geez, what a gullible seagull I am.

I'd better put the Pacc's picture back up. People will think it is his take on the matter.

@ossobuco,
If they both float for awhile, and tend to hang together in a distinct plume, it's probably legit. Germans can be kind of thrifty, and popcorn is cheaper than oil.

@tsarstepan,
Point being, it has waves. I'll buy it then. Interesting, though, re oil and water behavior (immiscibility?) and ordinary floating stuff behavior. Obviously I don't know what I am talking about, curious.

@ossobuco,
I bet there will be thousands of very happy schools of fish out there in the North Sea.

Seas filled with tons of popcorn. All they have to do now is drop several thousand portable waterproof bluray players and a few thousand different Pixar and Hayao Miyazaki films on Bluray discs.

@tsarstepan,
How many humans choke on pop corn per year, eh? How many Heimlichs?

(I'm still dumb on all this)

@ossobuco,
Ban popcorn and the motion picture industry craters. The economy can't stand it at this time.
