As with most things in my life, this thread is inspired by one of Gus' threads.
One of my favorite sandwiches is chicken with bacon (turkey bacon to be exact), lettuce, tomato and a slice of apple on a whole grain roll or bread. If you really want to be decadent, you can spread some brie on the bread.
Man, that's a good sammie...
So what are some of your favorite sandwiches?
Well, sammiches have to have a tasty bread. I like certain multigrain kinds. Next, sweet onion slices and tomato, perhaps lettuce. Mayonaise. Pickle optional. A thick layer of hot corned beef, shredded. Have with a tall glass of sweetened green tea.
Velveeta smooshed between 2 saltine crackers and a glass of grape koolaid.
mmmmm ... I love sammies! Mostly because they're made with my secret vice -- bread.
If I'm feeling veggie (but not vegan):
A hunk of good french baguette, split and filled with a romaine leaf, a jarlsberg slice, some thinly sliced sweet red peppers and cucumbers and avocado, held together with mayonnaise (the real stuff) and sprinkled with a little sea salt and a liberal dash of fresh cracked pepper.
Oh, yes! I hear ya! I love veggie sammies too!
Lettuce, tomato, onion, slices of cucumber, red and green bell pepper, black olives, on a multi-grain roll. Spread the roll with mayo, and add a dash of Tabasco.....mmmm.....
A lot of Italian places have a veggie panini sammich....good stuff!
Or, if I'm feeling meaty and simple:
Light rye bread
lettuce
dijon & mayonnaise, thinly spread
shaved rare roast beef
hot pepper rings, scattered on top
Fresh sourdough baguette with
real butter,
tons of salami and pickles.
Fresh sub roll with turkey, swiss and mayo please.
Funny this should come up, I caught part of a food show today asking people this, and there's a sandwich I'm gonna try out.
I first I said "ugh", but apparantly it's very good......
Grilled cheese with jelly or jam...
I know, I know, sounds awful, but this is what the guy who said it was his favorite sandwich did.....
He got 3 of those little tumbler drums, like for bingo, and a bunch of ping pong balls.
For one group he wrote all these different types of bread, on the 2nd, all types of cheese, and the third all types of jellies and jams.
Then he had passerbys pick a ball from each and made a grill cheese for them with that.
Every single person was really surprised and said that their sandwich was REALLY good.
I remember there was
Rye with havarti and orange marmalade
challah with brie and strawberry (the man who got this didn't even know what challah and brie were, but he said "It's really buttery tasting and the stawberry compliments it")
whole wheat, I forget what cheese, and pepper jelly.
Sun dried tomato hummus, plain yogurt, roast beef, and cucumber, inside a pita.
I mean grilled cheese will always be my FAVORITE, but I felt like contributing something a little more creative.
Turkey, creme cheese and cranberries on a kaiser. Post Thanksgiving sammie.
Many years ago, in NYC, I had avocado and brie on some kind of roll and it was scrumptuous. I never forgot it.
I love a smoked turkey sandwich on rye bread.
thick crusty bread with pesto spread, basil, tomatoes and mozzerella.
Good choice, kris. Damn good.
I'm beginning to like you.
Everything so far sounds good!!
I used to like Dills, but now they upset my stomach for some reason.
A real reuben. (There was a place in L.A. that made great ones.)
