I like tomato on a grilled cheese sandwich as well.
In fact, I think that a sandwich is greater than the sum of its parts and that most sandwiches taste better than the meat (or other filling) and bread do separately.
I used to be able to find sunflower seed bread and that was good.
This fall, I am returning to baking my own bread, a practice that was on hiatus for several years.

At the height of summer <sigh> when tomatoes are perfect & basil is abundant: a thick, open sandwich consisting of a fresh, crusty Italian bread with a little butter (not marg.!) spread on it. Then thick, juicy slices of tomato with basil leaves from the garden ripped a little & thrown on top. A bit of salt (yes, salt!) & freshly ground pepper. A little drizzle of olive oil over the lot & I'm in heaven! <chomp!>

Only when they give me a hard time, and then I really give it to them.

Speaking of tomatoes, does anyone else feel that they aren't flavorful anymore?

They're the ones found in just about every supermarket on the planet, Miller! Awful, nasty, hard, tasteless things they are! Even my favourite greengrocer's ones aren't much better!

Whatever happened to the big, juicy, "beef-steak"
tomatoes?

I have been eating flavorful, fresh-picked tomatoes.

Actually, the tomatoes came from farmstands and they still disappoint.

Yes, the homegrown tomatoes are the best! Next summer, I might try growing a tomato plant on my patio. But they need a really deep pot.
As far as grilled cheese sammies, I like to get make them with hot pepper cheese from the deli. Mmmm.....

I have just finished a cat sandwich. Take a cat and place it between two slices of bread. Sprinkle a liberal amount of pepper on cat. Enjoy.

There is a hybred called "Patio" that is shallow rooted and does well in medium-large pots, the fruit is a mild sweet slightly larger than a cherry tomatoe, quite tasty really. Yes it is not unusual for a typical tomatoe plant to root down 8 to 10'

Thanks for that info, dys! I just googled them, and they look pretty good! I've also heard that "celebrity" tomatoes do pretty well with being grown in a pot.
