I should have told them how much insulin to give him, but they said they'd do the blood tests. In retrospect, I realize that the blood tests are a snap shot of his gluc and that it'd have been high because he got allow dose the night before due to the fact that he couldn't eat after 11 pm. But, they knew that. I wrote it all down, like a dork.
If I don't return from the vet this evening, it's because I am in the hospital for a cuncussion which happened when I hit the floor after I saw the bill.
600-something dollars later....... I should have done this on a friday - how will I feel ok going to work tomorrow? How can I afford not to?
Screech is wobbly, bewildered, aggitated. I took him out of his carrier at the vet to try and sooth him, but he just looked around and growled at everyone there. A 1.5 inch wide swath of fur is gone like an inverse collar on the left side of his neck. Stitches to make you queesy. Wondering if I did the right thing having that cyst removed. He's pacing, wanting something but he doesn't know what.
Oh man, what an ordeal.
Hope that things reach equilibrium soon.
($600!! Eek.)
The cat seems most preoccupied with getting the vaseline off his face - they shmeer the eyes when they put animals under. I took pix of his stitches if anyone has the stomach for it.
Soz, equilibriate (?) the insulin thing? According to the last several fructosamines, he's perfectly regulated. Those tests look at certain factors (I don't know how) and the results tell whether the treatment has been effective over the last few months. But, if we were to do a blood glucose curve, we might see a different story. The BG takes blood-gluc values periodically through several hours (every 1 or 2 hours for 4-8 hours). The insulin is time-released with the highest dose being released midway through the day. So, you typically see a bell curve: higher glucose early and late, lower insulin in the middle of the day.
The urine tests I do are sloppy. The bladder collects urine with varying amounts of glucose in it through out a period of time. If I test his urine in the morning, I'm testing pee which arrived in his bladder up to 6 hours before it left his bladder and hit the test strip.
No, just in general. Calmed down, back to normal.
oh! Hahaha..... He seems exponentially calmer already.

In my case I did not tell the vet. how much insulin to give my cat. The other vet (main one) faxed the info. to the emergency clinic (then I transported my cat there). Main vet closes, emergency clinic= 24hrs.
The main vet gave specific instructions to this vet at the clinic in that fax. When I arrived with my cat I asked to see the vet and fax that was sent. I spoke with the vet and saw the fax. It matched exactly the one from the other vet. I had a copy of that fax and then when I went to go get my cat I also asked for the copy of their records. That is how I found out that they not only lied to me but were going to charge me for treating my cat for what they caused to happen - seizure.
TTH - Unbelievable! So, you cleared it up and didn't have to pay for that extra? I just checked my bill, the blood glucose checks were pretty cheap.
He's hit rock bottom and come back up a little (knocking on wood). He threw up a lot (undigested food). He refused all but tuna for 24 hours. Now, he's eating his kibble as well as tuna and a small amount of rice. I'm hoping he's back to normal by the weekend.
Oh, my. I hate to hear about a cat refusing tuna or raw liver.
And still a little better. Now he's eating dry and wet cat food. No tuna. Last night he threw up at 5 am again, but there was no food in his stomach this time (just bile). <knocking on wood>
I just realized that since he had his teeth cleaned, the wild sneezing has stopped. This is very good.
His stitches are out and the incision is healed. His fur will be a long time growing back. He is still not eating really consistently. With the pet food recalls (none of his are on the list), I've been feeding him too much tuna. Now I'm worried about potential mercury toxicity. I felt ok giving him some of his wet food (a prescription food not on the lists) again yesterday and he's eaten well for his last 3 feedings. His insulin intake is back up to full dose.
Whew.
He was just sound asleep next me on the couch. I put my hand on him, no movement, I said something nothing. I got a little panicky. I dragged a ribbon across his paws: instant attack! Heeheehee..... From deep sleep to attack in less than 1 second.
He's a happy cat. I have video proof from yesterday:
Happy Cat
Awww, so cute.
(And you have really clean floors!)
What tico said - both things.
Back when Spooky was an only cat, I got him one of those round plastic tracks with a ball in it. Just amazing how athletic they get just from laying around all day. There's something to be learned here.
Oh, he lost interest after a couple of days.
Wow, Screech is looking great!
And damn straight on the floors. What's your secret?
Isn't is nice how we all focus on the important things in life?
