The new addition to the family.

Caesar is a hybrid macaw., nine months old and hand fed so he’s very tame and sweet. He’s a Catalina Macaw. His father was a Scarlett and his mother a blue and gold Macaw. He’s only nine months old, we’ve had him for about three months now and he’s as sweet as can be. Already talking.

Of course his favorite word to say is Peanut because the kids are always giving him some kind of peanut.

He eats pretty much everything we eat and not just his bird seed.

I shall post they crazy shenanigans of this bird over time Razz

@ehBeth,
He’s sitting on my shoulder as I type and grooming my head!

He’s not afraid of the dogs one bit! In fact they are afraid of him! Razz

@jcboy,
wait til he starts bossing them around - with his words!

Chandra lives with a couple of enormous rabbits (20 lb+) and a human. Chandra's definitely the boss of the household. Chandra's partner bird of 22 years died about 2 years ago and she's just starting to feel better - she really mourned Sad

Do all the children like Caesar?

(don't forget to make him a FB page! he can be Chandra's pen-pal)

@ehBeth,
Well little Alex is afraid of him, Caesar is a pretty big bird with a large beak. He wouldn't hurt anyone, he's a lover but he is intimidating.

Some people have told me some parrots will either like men or women, one or the other. Well Caesar seems to be attached to Alicia.

He will screech when she leaves the room, and boy is he loud! Razz

@margo,
A boyfriend of a girlfriend of mine had one super loud parrot. I was not relaxed about it, but was not around his house myself. I forget the guy's name but remember the parrot..
A Cockatoo sang in the trees across the street when a friend of mine was giving a speech in Venice, CA, about the importance of libraries and books (she was a tv newscaster, this all at a library remodel opening.) She spoke in the median strip of the boulevard and the cockatoo gave opinions. So funny..

He’s an odd ball that’s for sure. This is his morning routine. He goes on and on for about 30 minutes, quiets down for a few hours then starts back up again being silly.

He says quite a few different phrases, some you can’t make out yet but he’s getting there. I just uploaded this video to youtube.

@jcboy,
does c'mon get said a lot at your house?

is someone taking turns saying good boy with him at some points? or is that all Caesar?

he is so good-looking!

@ehBeth,
The kids are always saying good boy to him, sometimes I can't make out what he's trying to say, I do know he does say "step up" very clear, and "come here", that's when he hears the kids calling the dogs. Razz

The two ropes are what's left of his toys, they last about a week!

Friends of mine used to have a bloody great parrot like that in their kitchen.

Its name was Piggy and you could hand it a walnut and watch it manipulate it around until it had located the seam of the nut, and quietly pop it open by placing the pointy parts of the beak in top and bottom and gently squeezing. No effort at all.

Clever things, parrots.

I could make a good stew out of that bird if he had a little more meat on his bones Drunk

@jcboy,
There doesn't seem to be a cage around him. Does he get free run of the house? Do you have to cage him at night or something? Does he poop everywhere or does he tend to go in one spot?

I've never owned a Macaw before, so I don't know what their behavior is like or what care is required.

@rosborne979,
Oh he has a big beautiful white cage but he’s only in it at night. He would rather be out on his perch with us, it has a base on it and its on wheels so we can take him into other rooms to be with us. He will only poop while in his cage or on that perch. Not once has he done his business while on our shoulders or while sitting on the sofa with us. He doesn’t like being in the cage, he has to be around us. Cool

The boid is gawgeous! I've had many pet birds in my life. Parakeets. Much smaller and not so gawgeous, but from the parrot family. Lots of personality and brains. I'm green with envy.

@rosborne979,
We buy him parrot seed but you now what he had for breakfast? Scrambled eggs, for lunch he had some baby cereal, it’s the powder kind you mix with hot water, he loves it.

Last night we ordered take out from PF changes and he ate some pot sticker, and beef broccoli with rice.
Cool
