PaL, sure is a small world. I've been to Roy many times. It was out the back gate at Ft Lewis and turn right. I flew helicoptors around the area - also, flew a fixed wing plane under the Narrows Bridge - it wasn't dangerous, it was a float plane. Also, had friends who lived on Fox Island - in what had in past years been a brothel on the S shore.
Love the ole road to Roy!!!!!

...and Tacoma is but a hop and skip from Vancouver. (Though, presently, it's not likely I'd get past the border, what with my bumper sticker and the things it says about Rumsfeld's parentage.) I married a girl from exotic Blaine, Washington, in fact.

Hi Danon... our house is about 8 miles east of 'downtown Roy'... out towards Mt. Rainier... Roy's big claim-to-fame is the two annual PRCA Rodeos each year... this year's Roy Rodeo Queen is riding the horse my daughter trained...

A brothel on Fox Island? LOL... I don't remember hearing about that!! We were off the road that lead to the southeast shore, the Etlow area of the Island. Remember when "Governor Dixie" lived on the Island? LOL... we named our dog "Dixie" and every time she did something 'dumb' we said, "well, that's why we named her Dixie"...

BTW, those helicopters are all still flying... and sometimes we can see the parachutists practicing... they put up a chainlink fence all around the Fort Lewis training land by our house, so the kids can't ride their horses or motorcycles on the 'res' anymore... the deer and the coyotes were really confused by the fence...

I heard that it's taking about two hours to cross the border at Blaine. Yikes!

Very Happy

My dear P+L, if I may so address you: thank you for your kindness to me and to all the friends I invited to Ethel's Cafe and to successor Lola's Salon; much of it was undeserved as I was not always nice to you personally, for which I would like to apologize.

My good wishes are and remain with our hostess Lola and all participants, however occasional, but I do have a request:

Can any of you please look out for my adopted wolfie, Beasley, currently in a wolf sanctuary in Oregon - Stradee will post links, I'm sure - as he does need lots of money for antibiotics. Today I mailed another check for him but will be gone for a while so would like to ask for Salon members' help in my absence. Thank you.

PaL,
I went to see the rodeos there. As a younger man, I rode the bulls and bareback horses in rodeos in TX, AR and LA. Is the 'blacksmith' shop still there?
My friends on Fox Is. was 25 yrs ago. The house was on the S shore. Probably isn't there now, as it was really old then.
And, yes, I remember Gov Dixie. She was a real kick to talk with.

HofT, Stratee and Dys, very interesting site.

Helen, I'll try to take care of wolfie for you while you're away. I hope you return to us soon in good health.

Lola's so sleepy tonight she can't keep her eyes open. Off to bed. Sleep tight all.

Hi HofT.... oh my, you don't need to apologize to me!! I never take anything here personally!!! But, thank you for your kind words. I've enjoyed getting to know you and everyone here. I must admit, that I miss the "storytelling" concept that we had back at the Cafe threads. It was fun to suspend reality and let the imagination totally take over. Maybe I'll start a little series of short stories, here in A2K, in the 'Writing' forum....

Actually, I've been spending 90% of my time at a different website group, where we all own Border Collies. My daughter's new Border Collie is starting out in Agility, and we're in the process of buying our own Agility equipment and creating our own training area at our house. My daughter will be ready to start competing, probably, by mid-summer. Jack (my Border Collie) loves to play at Agility, and maybe he'll enter some competitions, too!!

Oh, and we have a wonderful "Wolf Haven" near where we live.....

http://www.wolfhaven.org/

I love to drive down to "Wolf Haven" and join in on one of the tours. They try to maintain some sense of the natural habits. Wolf Haven has a permit to pick up road-kill. If we see a dead deer on the side of the road, we call Wolf Haven and tell them the location.

Danon... I'm not too sure about the blacksmith shop... perhaps it was a part of the old 'general store'?... the old general store is now "The Roy General Store Steak House And Saloon"... it has lots of old pictures hanging on the walls... maybe one of the pictures has the blacksmith shop... great excuse to go to the saloon for a beer and a game of pool!!... I'll check that out for you!!...

Very Happy

Lola turns to PAL, and says, "I miss the story telling aspect too. We started out that way, but I see we've begun to leave it off.
Let's start it again, shall we?"

And all Lola's guests and friends agree.

danon turns to Lola and whispers, 'Thank you' in her ear. 'I've missed the old tales of here and yon. We really have to get back to the essence of ourselves. Withers!! Please offer refreshments all around. Thanks.'
With that Withers whisked off in a glow of absolutely paradoxically <love dbl adjs (G)> poignantly prophetically <quad adjs? - oh well (dbl G)> presence of performance that would make Aeageus envious!
Soon thereafter, all became NORMAL again!!!

Lola emerges from her bedroom all refreshed. A nap in the afternoon is a pleasant luxury, one not enjoyed enough by busy, busy Lola.

Sitting down in her big comfortable chair by the fire, Lola is feeling unusually calm and collected. Surprising what a little sleep will do for the good ole neurotransmitters Lola associates with herself.

Asking Withers for a glass of Pinot, Lola says, "Sad night tonight. Let's all keep each other company. And g0d d@mn the Bushies."

edited at 11:55 for spelling error. Can't have misspelled words in my postings. T'would ruin my reputation!

hey, Danon,

I wish you could find the time to drive to Dallas this Sunday and join BillW and his family, me and Joanne Dorel for dinner. I understand if you can't, it is a long drive, but it sure would be fun and you and your family are invited for sure.

Come gather round the fire, I have an old and beautiful chinese story to tell about a Peach Blossom Spring.

A fisherman journeying along a stream reached a place where the banks were filled with Peach Blossom. There were fallen petals everywhere and a deep fragrance. The peach groves ended at the source of the stream where a spring came out of the hillside. Then he saw a narrow opening out of which light shone. He left his boat and went inside. He reached a land where everyone seemed happy. The people all came to see him and question him. They said their ancestors had travelled there to escape from the empire of Ch'in and that no one had ever wished to return. They knew nothing of the dynasties of Han and Wei and were amazed at what he told them. He stayed for a while and before leaving they told him that nothing would be gained by revealing their existence.

When he emerged from the hill he took to his boat. He retraced his journey noting every turning. When he returned home he told about his adventure. He was sent with others to show them the route but it was lost. And no one ever found the way there again.
