I'm sure we are somewhere in the past - you from Allen's Chapel also  This place is truly small, but its cemetary is the final resting place of both my maternal and paternal great great grandmothers. And my paternal gg grandmother came to Texas with 3 boys and no husband in 1852 from Tennessee. What a woman!!!!!!!!

Stradee, That's a beautiful story of justice. When Bush attacks Iraq, he will create an inbalance. What revenge will bring back balance for Americans? c.i.

BillW,
Re. the first man to invent alphabet - the Sumarians c. 3600 bce must have come up with something out of the blue to establish their cuneiform writing. Also, very soon after, if not really before? the Egyptians invented a separate form of writing to record knowledge. You are correct about the Cherokee though, they were really intelligent people and friends to the invaders from the sea. Most of the Native Americans of that time were highly intelligent. The early movies c. 40's & 50's really did them an injustice.

I recall years ago reading about the time of the early settlers crossing in wagon trains - in one family the parents became ill and they stopped traveling with the train. Both parents died somewhere in Colorado area. Local Indians took the 4 or 5 children and returned them to St. Louis to their relatives.

Also, during the American Revolution of all the people captured by Native Americans about 80% wanted to go back to the natives after they were 'saved'.

Keep up the good articles. They are really great.

danon, I'm uncomfortable with using a generalization such as "intelligent" to identy any group, race, or culture. c.i.

c.i. I wonder why. To me it's the highest compliment to give someone. I realise that 'intelligence' is subjective - a native along the Amazon is 'smarter' than a Harvard Phd lost there as far as survival is concerned. etc. And while there is a distinct difference in the intelligence levels of individuals I do feel that the Native American culture as a group was and is very much more intelligent than has been portrayed in our 'history'.

I'm probably overly sensitive, because of the study by a PhD at Harvard that shows blacks to be not intelligent. I think generalizations can be offensive too. c.i.

Yeah, I think studies such as you refer to are ridiculous. Blacks have contributed so much good for America and have not been given credit for it. That is slowly changing.

Absolutely Danon!

"It should be remembered that hundreds of people of African ancestry also walked the Trail of Tears with the Cherokee during the forced removal of 1838-1839. Although we know about the terrible human suffering of our native people and the members of other tribes during the removal, we rarely hear of those black people who also suffered".

Hiama comes into the Salon having read of all the exploits of his coffee drinking chums he is humbled by the lessons in compassion, learning and understanding. Its such a shame that the current world instability can not be solved by such mature and informed discussion.

Withers may I have an expresso to go, I have a busy day ahead and need to have my wits about me.

HIAMA thus hurries on to his busy day's activities, thermos in hand, delicious coffee in tummy. Such dedication, hanging with us in New York and working in London. And he's a very good swimmer too.

Peace&Love and Jack (super Border Collie) sniff the air in Lola's kitchen.

"Do I smell coffee?"

"Woof?"

Withers has a vanilla latte for PaL and a Scooby-Snack for Jack.

"Thank you, Withers!"

"Woof!"

PaL and Jack, like hiama, are heading out for a busy work day....

"Thanks, Lola! We'll be back later, and maybe resume our trip through Texas, on horseback?"

Very Happy
