Lola, Have you ever visited the Honey Gove area - do you know the town and the lay of the land? I have surprising run into Honey Grove people in strange places. Had a friend in Viet Nam who lived in Honey Grove at the time. It is truly a small world!
BTW, please pass a cup of joe!
BillW,
I was last in Honey Grove when I was a child. (the other day) The only memory I have of it is my aunt's house and all the relatives. Old ladies giving me very sloppy and wet kisses on the cheek, and me trying to wait until they were no longer looking before I wiped them off. But you know, those ladies never stopped looking, so finally I had to just go ahead and do it anyway. I used to stay up nights, planning how I could avoid those kisses. But none of my tactics ever worked. It's enough to make me never go back to Honey Grove again. But actually I have many pleasant memories of those times with my relatives as well. And now all those old ladies are gone........actually now I'm the old lady. But I shall never give a sloppy kiss to any child. Kid's don't like it.
But I'm actually more familiar with Greenville and Cumby. Do you know them?
Withers? Would you please bring BillW a cup of coffee? Bill, do you like regular or flavored? Milk or no? sugar?
Don't know those towns - mostly stayed in Windom (just to the west), then there's Bugtussle (just to the south) never been there, maybe next Monday when I drive through on the way to Shreveport. My Dad was borned in Riverby 10 miles to the North, just north of Telephone. Telephone, Texas existed before there was a telephone, go figure.
I remember those kisses. I sat back and watch those old ladies load up on more lipstick and would head out the back door knowing they would be looking for more victims soon.
Greenville is a big town, I often thought of retiring there or maybe a little further east - where the big pines start!
Lola, As an outside observer, I see you were plastered with "love."

c.i.
Plastered is an excellent word, c.i.
Oh, BillW, will you be coming through Dallas on your way to Shreveport? I'll be in Dallas next week. It would be nice to meet for coffee. Will you have time? Maybe some of the other Texas folk could join us too. That would be fun.
I live in Norman, OK, and will be going through Allen's Chapel and Honey Groove to visit graves and passing through Bugtussle to say I've been there. Then on to Shreveport on Monday the 17th. This cuts across the NE section of Texas and will therefore cut Dallas out.
Planning on returning the following Saturday or Sunday (probably Sunday) and will be passing through Dallas at about 3 or 4 in the after noon. Could make plans to stop and eat supper around that time. If we can meet (now I'm getting excited) would confirm date, time and location. Maybe get Joanne Dorel from Fort Worth to show up also.
Nice idea, Bill. Let's plan to do it. Funny, I'm driving to Oklahoma City today. Will probably pass through Norman. My father went to school there when he was a boy. Small world.
It maybe just as easy (or easier) to get that cup here in OKC while you are here. Date, time (a span would be better - right now best for me, Saturaday night) and location.
What a surprise. BillW - if you are near Atlanta,TX you are more than welcome to stop by for coffee, chat, overnight whatever.
I know that Atlanta is slightly off the beaten path, but thats one if the attractive things about it as far as I'm concerned. It's about 20 miles south of Texarkana, TX/AR along highway 59. Or, about 50miles north of Marshall, TX along highway 59.
Let me know, we are retired so any time is a good time - with prior notice of course. My wifes a city girl and had culture shock when we first came here, my old friends would just drop by unannounced and that would drive her crazy. She always told them to call first or else there would be gunfire. So, now nobody ever comes around. (Joking of course) :-D
gunfire, heh? Gotta stay away from you Texans. LOL c.i.
danon, Small world indeed. Since I'll be in Shreveport next week I'll see if me and the wife can pop up there. I send you a message next week early so we can coordinate. Thanks!
BTW, I use to live about a 1/4 mile off 59 - of course, that was in Houston - ha! Other end of the line.
Very cool if BillW and the Texans could meet! But, I must warn you that I DID take danon5's wife VERY seriously about the notice before stopping in......
Lola's Salon
"Good Afternoon" greets Stradee.
Looks as if everyone having a busy day. Withers fills a thermos with hot Mocha as Stradee waves to all and heads out towards the stables where Sweet Dancer is enjoying Omelene.
Stradee nuzzles Palamino as he whinneys quietly then both

as they find they've been transported to Texas hauntings sites ~

Hiama parks his palomino in the stable and works his way through a nice bottle of Chateauneuf Du Pape before hitting the hay and will be back tomorrow to see what has beeen happening with his friends at the Salon. He sees Jack and P & L asleep in the guest room and snuggles down in the stable with Al the Palomino
Thanks for the link Stradee - I was in Mineral Wells just before New Years and stopped at the Baker Hotel. It was an amazing sight to see it standing there, so big and so empty. I wondered whe it was so deserted - it still looks usable with some work. Now I know the story!
Lived in Weatherford, TX (just down the road) from 2 years old to 6 years old, BTW!
Lola's Salon
Stradee returns from visiting extrodinarily built homes and hotels ~ listening to ghost stories and interesting family geneology told to her and Sweet Dancer by the locals of each town.
Returning to Lola's ~ Stradee and Sweet meet Al who whinnys a greeting as we enter the Stables. "Hi there boy ~ nice to meet you" Stradee smiles as Sweet and Al greet each other.
"oops" Stradee and Sweet almost step on a napping Hiama and tip toe to Sweet's stall ~ but not before placing a blanket on Hiama as Sweet gives him
a gentle nuzzle.
BillW, 1/4 mi off HW59 Ay?? Around here when writing a check, the person usually says 'What is the nearest highway?' - I usually say HW59, but you know of course that HW59 begins at the Mexico border and ends at the Canadian border'. I usually get a blank stare.
Lookin forward to meeting you and your wife.
After I talk with her tonight, we'll see if with can get a little closer on details - looking forward to a little meeting!
BillW, I just noticed that you were in Weatherford, TX from 2 to 6 yrs old. I was in third grade in Weatherford during the 1949 school year. Wouldn't it be a coincidence if we were in the same school building at the same time. You may have heard of the kids who lived in the railcars on the T&P - that was me.
Let me know!!!
