Actually Shrub country is a beautiful part of Texas. It is too bad GW had to taint it. It's the hill country of Texas, it's green with rivers and Austin is actually a very liberal, laid back fun place. Too bad the Republicans have taken over.
In any case, it's not close to NE Texas, but it's not too far away either. Maybe we should all ride down to Austin and see what kind of trouble we can get into there.

Lola, be careful of what you wish for (in this case ask for) because you may just get it.
I have many times been accused of preaching historical triviality.
Ok, I will really try to not preach, and I will only hit the really, really big and important bits of histerical trivia between here and - lets say Fredricksburg, Texas!!
How does that sound? This is your last chance to get someone else to lead this adventure. Say, someone like hiama, for instance. His tour will take - maybe, a few minutes. Mine - will lead some to apoplexy - others to give up shopping forever - and still others to things far more unmentionable. <G>
Awaiting your response, I am your most humble and obedient servant.

SEE!!! I CAN'T HELP IT! LOL :-D

Oh please, please, Danon, lead on. This should be fun. And Fredricksburg sounds like a good destination. LBJ Country. Down with the good ole Texas Democrats......remembering the good old days.
But we must stop by Dallas for a bit on the way. The ladies may want to shop at Neiman Marcus and we all may want to have a steak. The last time I was in Dallas, I ate at Kirby's Steak House on Greenville Avenue. The best steak around and the house salad dressing is indescribably delicious.

Ah, what great memories you have brought to me. I worked at Rauscher Pierce Securities in the Merchantile Dallas Building between 63 and 66. It's across the street from Neiman Marcus. We could all pile into a jet and I'll fly us into Love Field where we take Mockingbird Lane to Greenville Avenue and Kirby's!! A Texas sized T-bone sounds great - all blackened on the outside and bleedin in the middle. Mmmmmm. What a grand suggestion!!
We are on our way.

Danon, 63 to 66 were good years and the Merchantile Building is classic. Neiman's at North Park has taken over high sales for the store these days, but there's nothing like the down town store.
OK, steak for dinner, anyone want to join us?

Don't worry Blatham. NE Texas is civilized country with civilized people like Danon. The heart of darkness is nowhere near. We can find a shady spot in the piney woods and have a great lunch with good people. Actually, lots of good people in Texas!
Dulcinea, you are a trooper, old gal. I'll get you curried and watered and you can just relax and visit with the other horsies. Just be careful not to flirt too much. Remember the trouble you got into last time?

Actually, I've been. There are parts of Texas I know like the back of my hand. Small parts, true. Real small. A hotel room.

Meanwhile, back south of the ranch, cobalt keeps plodding towards the rest of the group. She senses that her sore butt COULD have been prevented if danon5 had JUST brought up that plane flight a lil earlier...
<she also agrees that the areas of TX described are very good to visit - mebbe not to LIVE there>

Sheriff HIAMA here, I've had to confiscate Blatham's Avatar as we could not see his eyes and as you well know such people can not be trusted.
I mean take this so called hostage situation in a small room in a shady part of Texas. I know just how he feels:-
You can't speak, you can't sleep
You daren't move, you're confused
You never talk, you can't walk
You can't feel, you're not real
If I open my eyes, just far enough
I can see what you're doing
Go on tight to the end, it's tough enough
When you're on the road to ruin. Yeah
You're a hostage of the heart
Twisted round the smallest finger
Two burning eyes are tearing you apart
Turn your soul into a cinder
Cobalt Blue please dip your sore butt in this nice bath of cold ice that should take the swelling down a piece.
There's no rest, you're possessed
You can't leave, you can't breathe
The door slams, your head hangs
You blank stare, you don't care
If you open your eyes just far enough
You can see the street lamps flicker
Go on fight to the end it's tough enough
When you know the end is bitter

Ah, the 11th floor 'room' of the Adolphus Hotel!!!
That would be the room favored by Bonny Parker and Clyde Barrow when they came through Dallas.
Enough trivia for now, no details. <G> :-D

HIAMA awakes back in Lola's Salon.
" My, some dream I had , Withers you will never believe what I dreamt I was doing. I was in the desert then in this pokey little flat in texas and Blatham was there and Danon and Cobalt and Lola and Stradee and then I woke up here, what is happening ? "
" There there Sir you just sit down by the fire and I'll get you some of that 20 year old Cognac I keep for just these occasions", Withers departs for the cellar.
Hiama thinks to himself, I wonder if Withers is related to Sir John Gielgud....all is quiet in the Cafe, you could hear a pin drop .....
