realjohnboy,

Come back, you fit right in here with the rest of us pompous asses. Come back, we're having a little party.

Epiphany,

Yes, the pool is partly covered. Shade and sun, something for everyone. Including Goth boys.

Oh Lola, do bring in the Gothboy - I look like a Goth myself with my mascara running down my exquisitely high cheekbones - I would like to talk to him and I'm sure he must be a little sad and frightened. Aren't we all from time to time? Lola, you are such a wonderful hostess, you make everyone feel so welcome.

Epiphany! So nice to meet you!

BOOM

Are you really from Italy? I adore Italy. Come sit next to me and we can talk.

BOOM

Oh yes, Bill. Hamburgers & hot dogs are simply a MUST. Extra cheese on my hamburger, please, and grill the buns, too. (heehee...if that doesn't bring a comment from Gautam, I'll quit.)

BOOM

Get back in here, Gothboy! You're very welcome, you know. Lighten up, would you? It's a party!

BOOM

Now that BillW has started the fireworks, I thought I'd shoot off a few roman candles...

BOOM

Plenty of firecrackers, etc. for all...come and get some!

Hi, Lola... Truth be known, I wasn't commenting on this site. Rather, I was trying to drum up interest in the new communal writing effort I have started that begins with the line "What a bunch of pompous asses."
Many of y'all in your salon know how this game is played. I figured this was a quick way to get you to participate in helping to develop a busload of characters rivaling Chaucer's.
I'd appreciate y'all introducing some characters.
(The reference to Gothboy and Eva was a bit of an inside joke based on some earlier storytelling). -johnboy-

Eva - really from Italy - am first generation American - my family are all in that small Italian town. Sit down next to me and tell me about yourself. I love Italy too...Do you visit often? I go as often as I can, actually do own boas and actually have found apple martinis to be something to avoid if I don't want to become a member of AA - much tooooo good!

As Diane enters the salon, she goes to the CD case, looking for a copy of How to Handle a Woman, while thinking of a certain someone and finds a note from Hiama, a sweet love note. She looks over at his sleeping face and smiles. What a lovely man. Life's a treat when there are so many good friends to be found in one place.

Epiphany, welcome to Lola's Salon. I haven't make a visit for a couple of days. Fifi can fix you up in no time with whatever you wish to wear and do your hair with no problem. She's priceless. Another visitor to Lola's wears boas and I happen to own a few, so if you need another one, let me know.

Cobalt, you are a poster child for the proud mother of the year. Your sons are so handsome and you look like you are about to pop with joy. Please stay as long as you can.

BillW there have been times when I wish it was possible to shoot tourists during tourist season. We live in a popular part of Connecticut and the tourists can be unbelievably obnoxious.
And no, it is not possible to have a civil war!!!

McTag!! Welcome to Lola's. Will you treat us to one of your clever limericks?

Sumac, you are a brave woman and we all wish you the very best as you begin your new life. As odd as it sounds, it can be very difficult to leave an abusive relationship. Congratulations!! Give the kitties lots of cuddles and pets for me.

Now I think I'll sit over here by Lola, Phoenix and Eva and ask Withers for some champagne, while I put on the song, The Night They Invented Champagne.

HAPPY FORTH OF JULY!! Laughing

Rip Van Hiama stirs from his sleep, he was having a great dream where Lola and Gautam were kissing him, now he understands why he has that bicycle.

He senses the scent of a new female-eau de Epiphany-ciao bella and welcome to the centre of the universe-Lola's !!

Hiama and Withers have breakfast together as there is no one else there and Hiama gets his replies from the billet doux he secreted around the salon, from Withers.

He intends to stay for a while and keep visiting more often, although it's a long swim from dear olde Englande his new gym routine means that his muscles can cope.

He goes to the baby grand and plays some Rachmaninov, that always puts him in the mood for love and he waits.....

sumac, go to the liquor store and view all the new different flavored gins, vodkas, martinis and other additives that are available. Another move toward premade flavored drinks.

Sumac - as far as I know apple martinis do not come premade...tho that may not be far away. To make one you mix in a martini glass one part vodka one part DeKuyper sour apple liqueur and one part triple sec (or a bit more if you prefer it more on the sweet side). That's all there is - personally I prefer it made with one part vodka, two parts sour apple (tastes like granny smiths) and one to two parts triple sec (orange liqueur). I think everyone should do it to their own taste. Thank you one and all for the warm welcome to Lola's Salon - I may stay quite awhile (you know how Euro Trash love to mooch) and perhaps at some point you all can visit me in Italy at my rather shabby though charming villa - there we will drink red wine.

Epiphany,

You like sour I see. Me too. The more sour the better. But I can't handle a martini. White wine, chanpagne or sparkling water are my drinks. As a matter of fact, I think I'll have a cold tall glass of sparkling water (fizzy water to our friends in GB) right now.

Oh, thank you Withers, my you read my mind.

Here is a couple or three recipes I found. Make a night of it - try them all Smile

Apple Martini

1. This recipe is a delight if made with Graf's Apfel Sauer & Smirnoff Apple Vodka. I used equal parts & shook it over ice. Holy Cow! If you like salt with your apples, lightly frost your rim with table salt, not Kosher which is used for Margaritas.

2. Ingredients:

1 cup crushed ice
6 fluid ounces vodka
1 fluid ounce apple jack
1 dash Calvados

Directions:

In a mixing glass, combine crushed ice, vodka and applejack brandy. Stir and strain into 2 chilled cocktail glasses. Top with a splash of Calvados, garnish with a lady apple and serve.

3. a is for appletini

Though hardcore martini-drinkers may cringe at the thought of it, the appletini, aka apple martini, is here to stay. True, there's nothing about this trendy concoction that remotely resembles a classic martini in the slightest. After all, it's sweet, it's fruity, it often glows green … traditional? Nope. But oh-so fun and tasty nonetheless.
the ingredients
At its most basic, an apple martini typically consists of a vodka base spiked with the flavor of apple schnapps. Apple schnapps is a sweet liqueur made from, you guessed it, apples. Sometimes it will simply be labeled apple schnapps. But head to your local liquor store and you might also find bottles labeled apple barrel schnapps, sour apple schnapps, sour apple pucker, or apple pucker. Plain old apple schnapps and Apple Barrel Schnapps (made by ubiquitous Schnapps producer DeKuyper) are generally sweet, slightly golden in color, and very red-apply in flavor. The sour apple and pucker versions are generally neon-green in color, sweet-and-sour, and taste rather like a green Jolly Rancher. Most bars will use the green stuff for their apple martinis, so if you're looking to make an apple martini that's exactly like the frou-frou cocktail you got at your favorite swanky bar, it's probably pucker you want. If you're of the opinion that drinks shouldn't taste like candy, on the other hand, you might want to try non-sour-type schnapps. Basically, use whatever type of Apple Schnapps suits your fancy … and remember, these babies pack more of a punch than you might first realize, so sip slowly and enjoy.
variations on a theme For all the following recipes, combine ingredients (except garnish) with cracked ice and shake it up till ice cold. Serve in a martini glass.

apple martini
2 oz. vodka
1 oz. apple Schnapps
splash of Cointreau
thin apple slice for garnish

sour apple martini
2 oz. vodka
1 oz. apple Schnapps
big ol' squeeze of fresh lime juice
thin apple slice for garnish

green apple martini
2 oz. vodka
1 oz. apple Schnapps
splash of midori
big ol' squeeze of lime juice
thin granny smith slice for garnish

pine-apple martini
2 oz. vodka
1 oz. apple schnapps
1/2 oz. pineapple juice
thin apple slice for garnish

My Goodness BillW! You are quite quick on the draw for the recipes, ha ha! Does this post to a2k count as an official email to let you know I returned to Normal? Ha ha! Drew and I are having a lowkey day - 95 degrees and humid here. Hopefully we may have a storm tonight. The pore lil AC unit in the living room of this student ghetto apartment does a woeful job. Now I've got my thermometer in my bedroom and it is 33 degrees Celsius. I'm afraid to look up a converstion chart for the Farenheight....Maybe another night spent at friend's on their couches, methinks!

Trip went OK, cobalt? On apple martinis, I was glad to read that vodka was the favored base, not gin. That thought upsets my stomach. Sounds interesting though.

After picking up the ingredients yesterday I tried an apple martini. Mmmmm, very good, but I can only have one or two sweet drinks in a row, so they would be for me an aside drink. Stickin ta me Wild Turkey. Sipped straight up of course, as is the European way.
