Even though my (ex)boss was the one who had to give me the bad news, she was only following orders from her management company ~ she didn't want me to leave at all. She has trusted me from day one and I've never caused her reason to worry. Those above her had a problem with me because I spoke my mind instead of schmoozing things over. I don't schmooze. Especially when it comes to my work.
