ehBeth ~ thank you. Big mental hugs coming your way, too!
So far, so good. Never mind that every hour or so, I say (out loud) 'I want a cigarrete'.
Not gonna do it.
hmmmmm. quitting smoking, starting depo. hmmmmmmmm.
interesting threads you've been starting, young lady.
at least when you hit 'one of these days' you won't have, well, you know, ashtray smooches.
Day number two moving nicely along. And still no one has died.
You can do it, Rae!
(I'm a non-smoker...parents used to make me clean out their ashtrays when I was a kid...that's enough to make me gag, just thinking about it. Almost lost my husband to throat cancer...smoking-related...when I was 8 mo. pregnant. One of the toughest times of my life, and certainly his. My son would have had 4 grandparents, but all were smokers and died by the time they reached their mid-60s. Want more reasons?)
Hang in there!
(((((((((( Rae ))))))))))))
Hey! 10:30 and time for a smoke break.
You just keep hanging in there, Rae.
GO Rae! This is exciting news! I'll be posi-vibing you.....
Just keep petting those kitties, Rae. Lowers the blood pressure, you know. The first couple of days are the hardest, I hear, so don't give up now, it's downhill from here.....!!!
My hubby says to avoid places where you always smoked, when possible. It's the habit that's the hardest to break, rather than the nicotine addiction. He says it was difficult for him to talk on the phone without a cigarette, so he began grabbing pencils everytime he picked up the phone. He ate several erasers the first week, before he became disgusted with the taste of them. Still picks up a pencil everytime he uses the phone, though, and it's ten years later. It sure beats the alternative. You may need to find some substitute habits, too. Just make sure they're harmless.
Oh, and did I forget to say, "CONGRATULATIONS!"...you are now a non-smoker! (Believe it or not, we're a very fun bunch!)
The first few days and then at about 2 weeks were my hard spots. Actually, most of the anniversaries of my cessation were hard. I would dream that i'd smoked and be so angry with myself nly to realize later that it was only a dream.
Pet the kitties, sip the water, have a soda when you need it. Drink extra coffee and a little extra sugar. Sugar-caffeine-nicoteine all raise blood sugar. Some of your symptoms are from your body craving blood sugar. Don't cave too often, but eating a little extra coffee/sugar is still waaaaay better than smoking. Go for long walks (or runs if you're so inclined).
And I forgot too, CONGRATS!
Thank you, Eva! Honest, irritability is the only problem I've noticed. Even though I mentioned it earlier, keeping my hands occupied isn't a problem. Neither is the habit of having a cig in my lips.
As long as my brain/and or body are occupied, I do just great.
Don't tell anyone.....
My ex-boss called me today begging my help. The hotel only had one housekeeper on duty and 52 rooms to clean. I cleaned, non-stop for six hours. I'm sure one of the reasons I'm so tired is because I didn't stop for any breaks. But, I'd be twice as tired had I stopped for a cig every hour.
I will never smoke again. Ever.
Thanks for the good thoughts!
Thanks littlek! Your advice is much appreciated.
Because I just started Deprovera treatments, I don't really want to give in to any food items to curb my desire for a smoke. The Depo shot is known to cause weight-gain (in some) and I've battled weight all my life. No thank you ~ not going there again.
I'll just try to stay busy.....read, lay out in the sun, play Spider Solitaire.....be a lady of leisure.....
