Why did Charles ever choose Camilla over Diana?

Chai Tea,

I have been wondering that myself! Is it Gloria Swanson?

No, that "I vant to be alone" Greta Garbo.

Reyn was comparing me to Mata Hari last week, and this was an image I google for the movie she played that character in.

The last woman was Rita Hayworth.

OH! yeah, the first of these film noir avatars I picked was Gloria Swanson, smoking a cigarette.

That's right! Greta Garbo! I can't believe I missed that! She's much better looking than Gloria Swanson. Love those film noirs!

Chai,

I am just a curious person, is all! I wouldn't care so much about why a woman had 16 children, though, so it's just a matter of what personally interests a person, isn't it? Even though Camilla and Charles may not personally 'rule' as Steve has explained (thank you, Steve, for your explanation of the English system) they still represent the country, do they not? I personally don't find people who cheat on their spouses, which means they lie as well, to be a good recommendation on the resume for a potential king or queen. Now, I'm not so naive that I am unaware that this type of thing happens with high profile people. It's just the WAY that Charles and Camilla carried on, practically rubbing it in Diana's face. Again, I'll ask, maybe somebody knows - why didn't they just marry in the first place and save making a complete fool of an innocent girl?
I hope that answers your questions, Chai, that is about as clear as I can get. I don't personally like Charles or Camilla, I think they are selfish, cold, spoiled and cruel people and I would not want them to represent my country. Just as I would be embarrassed if Bush was President in my country. I don't expect a 'virgin Queen' but Camilla's history reads like, well, a common tramp.

whoo

where to start?

common tramp? not really, just an upper class girl who liked to jump in bed...

I would be embarrassed if Charles and Camilla truly represented this country and me. But I dont think they do. Does anyone here?

Of course she did. Being a young, naive girl, she thought she would have him all to herself. A reasonable thought by anybody's standards. Do you remember the story about the gift that Camilla gave Charles on his wedding day?

Yes, that answer my question, thanks.

As an aside, considering your feeling toward infidelity in marriage, I find it interesting that your signature line is a quote from Bill Clinton.

mmmm, yeeees daaarling.

Funny, before my husband and I married, but were planning on it, we happened to go to a pychic fair.

I was wandering around while he had his tarot cards read. I came up behind him, looking at magazines and such, close enough so I could hear what she was saying.

At one point she tapped a card that she was saying represented me (or his love, or whatever)....

She gave it a few firm taps and said

"MY, she's a LOFTY one, isn't she"? Shocked

He'll still say to me sometimes 'my you're the lofty one aren't you'?

Cracks me up every time. Laughing

I think I'm maybe the 1st two, but not the third.

Yes, that is interesting, isn't it? I remembered Bill Clinton's affairs and how it nearly got him impeached in America. How differently England treats these sorts of things, eh? What Bill says about Canada happens to be a truism, however. I don't know what his history with Hillary was before they were married. Did he lie to her before?
I do remember Diana being told that Charles was having an affair (did Charles tell her?) but by then she said she didn't know how she could pull out of the marriage as the thing had gone too far forward to put a stop to it. Or something of that nature! But she felt she was irrevocably committed. I mean, how many marriages of that stature had been called off two weeks prior to the day of the wedding?
Whether she felt she could change his mind after they were married is a possibility. When that failed, perhaps she thought having two beautiful children would change his mind. I think Charles is easily led (not what you'd want in a future king) and Camilla is a strong willed person. Diana was not. She used tears and began an eating disorder to cope/fight, but nothing worked. I saw her as a shy, gentle person - a complete opposite from Camilla.
Also, referring to a comment from one of you, regarding why the marriage is 'ok' now and not 35 years ago- Camilla is still as unsuitable then as now. Can't understand why the Queen would give her permission. Don't know a lot about this, but couldn't Charles abdicate in order to marry his lady love, such as Edward did to marry Wallis Simpson? (These guys are really into homely women, eh). What are Charles' chances of becoming King, anyway? Isn't William more in line for that?

What would he abdicate from? He is not the King!!!

What does one's physical beauty have to do with anything?

Why is it important if Bill lied to Hilary before they got married? How do you know that Charles lied to Diana before they got married? The fact is....Diana DID marry Charles and the rest is history.

The first 10 people in line to succeed Queen Elizabeth II are:
1 The Prince of Wales, Queen Elizabeth II's eldest son (Charles)
2 Prince William of Wales
3 Prince Henry (Harry) of Wales
4 The Duke of York, (Andrew)
5 Princess Beatrice of York, the Duke of York's elder daughter
6 Princess Eugenie of York, the Duke of York's younger daughter
7 The Earl of Wessex, Queen Elizabeth's youngest son (Edward)
8 Lady Louise Windsor The Earl of Wessex's daughter
9 The Princess Royal, Queen Elizabeth II's daughter (Anne)
10 Peter Phillips, The Princess Royal's son

It is said that Camilla will be known as the Princess Consort if Charles becomes King. Life goes on.

so, go make another thread! (But can't you come up with something else besides a silicone barbie doll like paris? boring.)

I think it does matter that Charles is a scoundrel and Camilla a tramp. They have no 'class', style, call it what you like. William would be much better at representing the UK. Maybe there won't be a monarchy any longer; one hears talk of that now and again. it's an antique institution, but I guess the English like the pomp--- for some reason.
