mg, there are books about how to change one's attitude towards food. Alright, I know what many think about Dr. Phil, but his book may be at least a motivation, an inspiration. i don't have a link to it, but it should be easy enough to google. it is precisely on this topic.

I love food, too - it is one of the things which gives me real pleasure in life. I cannot ignore it! Why do you think I have become "kitchen" Pete - so I can cook myself delicious things to eat!

Over the last 3 weeks I have lost just over 10 pounds...because I've stopped myself from eating things which are "extras". I've still eaten out at a chinese restaurant, at friends houses I've consumed roast lamb, fish pie, fruit tart (not on the same occasion!) and I've really appreciated those treats. I think I'm going to have fish & chips on Sunday with a visitor from the US - and I'll really appreciate it - but maybe I'll just have a salad for the other meal that day.

Try what I've done - write down EVERYTHING you eat and drink, with an estimation of size (e.g. large fruit salad/small bag of crisps). Each day, as you fill in the diary, you can see where it's more than you "should" eat. Then you can think about how to eat less on those occasions.

Step 1 - if in doubt, drink water! It has no calories, does you no harm and can fill up your stomach, prior to/in conjunction with a small meal.

Step 2 - eat slowly and space your courses. If you wait 20 minutes after eating something, you will often find that you are no longer hungry, even though you were not "full" after you ate it. Don't eat to be "full", just eat to satisfy your hunger (and tastebuds).

I hope that helps.

If perfection were easy, there would be more of us perfect people. Change comes slowly and the commitment to change comes first.
Dag has a good idea about consulting Dr. Phil--you want a bit of wholesome brainwashing. Also Kitchen Pete's food diary would help you focus on what you're eating. In your case, it might help to note your mood in your food diary so that you can see just how much self-indulgence you're consuming.

Giving up after two miles! Wimp! Of course you get points for being a Good Mother by removing temptation from the cupboards.

Mardi Gras, here I come.

So here's a good start for you would-be dieters out there.
It's Shrove Tuesday
The name Shrove comes from the old word "shrive" which means to confess. On Shrove Tuesday, in the Middle Ages, people used to confess their sins so that they were forgiven before the season of Lent began.

Shrove Tuesday a time for celebrations
Shrove Tuesday is a day of celebration as well as penitence, because it's the last day before Lent.

Lent is a time of abstinence, of giving things up. So Shrove Tuesday is the last chance to indulge yourself, and to use up the foods that aren't allowed in Lent. Pancakes are eaten on this day because they contain fat, butter and eggs which were forbidden during Lent.

Other names for Shrove Tuesday
Shrove Tuesday is also called Pancake Day, or Mardi Gras in France, which means Grease or Fat Tuesday.

So eat the pancakes, chew the fat and tomorrow - face 47 days of denial!

I have just lost 2 lbs this week on the 'give up milk and dairy' diet - and I now have SUGAR in my coffee!

It's a good thing Super Bowl Sunday occurs before Ash Wednesday. At the rate they keep pushing it out it won't be for long.

I'm not on a diet, but would someone please slap me? I just devoured some Classic Lay's Potato Chips and a slab of bitter chocolate like it was the last man on earth.

I don't do mindless eating. Ever.

Evil, wicked, naughty-bad, shame! Don't you ever-ever-ever do that again!

Do you know why you had a baby binge? Once is evil, wicked, naughty-bad, shame--but a binging Jones is even worse.

Oh to resist temptation! I have just baked bread ( whole wheat of course, much to the chagrin of my sons) and I have to resist slicing off the end bit!
I generally try to stay away from wheat products so I reckon , in the end, I will indeed resist but oh, that smell!
I have managed to get into the pool twice this week and even walked for 15 minutes on the treadmill!!
Now I will just have to be careful and not think I am wonder woman and over do it Razz
Never, ever injure your back!

First weigh-in after the Super Bowl.
I am 173, much better than expected.
Those long jogs Monday and Tuesday paid off.

Sounds like hopeful reports all round. Great work!

Back to 131--water weight, but disheartening all the same. Obviously tomorrow will have to be better.

material girl--

Skipping meals can be dangerous on a diet. By mid-afternoon your stomach will be convinced that it deserves at least a five course banquet with three of the courses deep fried and the other two slathered with whipped cream.

Small, regular meals starting with breakfast. My breakfast will probably be grapefruit juice, metamucil wafers, a little left over red beans and rice and a hard boiled egg with a little mustard sauce.

I recommend half a grapefruit and a piece of wholegrain toasted bread. i learned to like it plain, without butter, or margarine or anything. in that combination it will get you through till lunch. when i desperately crave something, or get hungry, i resort to stonyfields fat free chocolate yoghurt - the best damn yoghurt on this planet. their new line is even low in carbs and high in fiber. how do they do that? they will be my valentine, that's decided.

oh, and i must report proudly that i am back to the gym everyday. my muscle mass is growing back, my quads and bicepses starting to look menacing. of course i love that. but i don't really know how much fat weight i lost, it's hard to tell. things fit differently, but as i get my muscles back, clothes get tighter again, only in different areas. well, as long as i am happy, right? will try to do mainly cardio and skip weights for a few days - parents are coming this monday, i want to get rid of 5 pounds by then.
