Noddy 24-Your right to bitch.

Im basically throwing out excuses not to eat healthily(had my humus and pitta, tasted like plop)

I have had a feeling for a few days that I actually want to snack throughout the day on fruit/veg instead of 3 meals a day.I think my body is crying out for good food.

When I go to the supermarket I only tend to walk around 1/4 of it as the rest is processed food.
We have a programme over here called 'You are what you eat'where people live on a safe healthy fruit/veg diet and they are very succesful in losing weight and having more energy etc.
The host/food speacialist (Gillian Mckeith)made a comment the other week after looking in someone fridge'there is nothing living in here, its all dead'eg they only had pizza/meat/processed food instead of fruit/veg.
It made me see the difference in foods.

Its all a step in the right mental direction.

BTW, I was Wonderwoman for one evening about 8 years ago.I think I still have the outfit.

Of course it is, oh, and good morning, the trick is to figure out which part of your brain gets to define good.

And I love McTag's ==

Quote:
This is it
Eat less
Exercise more
Weigh to check. If it isn't working, then
Eat less
Exercise more
It's that simple.

I'm hanging this on my fridge. but I've re-written it as

Eat well, eat good, but eat less.

Weigh in today: 230.00, down .6 since yesterday.
One pound for the week.
I think I could lose more, faster, but I want this time to be the last time I have to fill in a chart of descent. I want a chart of flatness at about the 170 pound level.

I've decided to post what I eat, my food diary, on this space.

Writing your food diary on here will be great for us too.
We can see what we should be eating or what you shouldnt be eating.

Your progress is impressive Joe.

I like McTag's approach too.

Take care of yourself Dag. You're still recovering from the flu.

Ay, Your gym is in the basement and you have a hard time getting there? ummm, let me give this one some thought....

Joe's right about slow and steady winning the race. I'm doing a one-week quickstart of 1100 cals/day with balanced carbs, proteins, and fats. Starting Monday I'll bump it up to 1400/day and stay there until I get down to 162 with a goal of losing 1 to 1.5 lbs/week.

172 today, down one from yesterday, 6.5 since Monday.
It gorgeous here today so I'm going to walk outside (4 miles) after I do my calf and butt exercises.

Today:
B: 1/2 cup Kashi Go-Lean, 1/2 cup 1% milk, 4oz ls V8, 1tsp flax oil, multi-v (this will increase to 3/4 cup each on Monday)

S: lf laughing cow with celery, cherry tomatoes

L: egg salad prepared with 2% cottage cheese instead of mayo (strange, but I like it) on oat Wasa crackers, sugar snap peas

S: hummus on seeded spelt crackers

D: roast pork loin, spaghetti squash, broccoli/cauliflower/carrot mix.

If dinner sounds SB based it's because Mr. B is doing a one week Phase I SB this week so I'm planning my dinner plans around his plan. Normally I would add some brown rice to the mix. I'll add that in next week.

Enjoy your weekend all!

Back up a pound today, but I'm sure that's transient.
Yesterday's workout was not aerobic (rotator cuff rehab).
Today is aerobic. The plan is a 4 mile jog.

Danger ahead -- Super Bowl snack-fest.

Feeling yesterday's personal trainer session: we did 30 minutes with boxing gloves (me hitting his pads), including 3x20 sit-ups with left-right punches when crunched!

Then shuttle runs...cycled to and from the gym, too.

But today my shoulders are really feeling it (and the thumb I bruised while boxing) - I had no idea that throwing punches was so energtic - never done it before!

Keep holding those dominions, folks!

McTag--

Such a useful, unpalatable aphorism giving no wiggle room for the phases of the moon or sunspot activity.

Dag--

You have a point about not allowing your metablism to slumber extra hours. Of course, when I'm dieting I have extremely vivid, sustaining dreams.

Don't you wish you could lose ounces for every toothsome morsel you didn't eat?

George--

Keep at it. By the by, I graduated from a woman's college. I'm more interested in hearing "You haven't changed a bit" than "Wow!"

Material Girl--

Healthy mental set comes first, healthy eating will follow.

I find that food actually tastes better when I'm not overeating. This morning's Metamucil wafers were "interesting" rather than "edible". Going by the Saliva Secretion Gauge, I was truely hungry.

Hunger is the best sauce.

Your digestive system will appreciate a gentle introduction to the fiber of fruits and vegetables. Start with two servings a day and work up to the 9-11 recommended by the USDA.

Don't you find it humiliating to discover officially that you move so little in your daily life? You can sneak in extra steps by slipping off to the ladies' room and marching in place--or if your ego is strong, march in place in public.

Kitchen Pete--

Congratulations. You can be my role model for the day.

Eoe--

Good idea to get moving. A2K burns few calories.

I should mention that I am recovering from a back injury. While cleaning bathrooms a few weeks ago I reinjured it. I am currently doing stretches and am working up towards being able to get back on the treadmill and start walking again. Pre the bathroom incident I was doing pretty well!
We also have a pool so I am hoping to make use of that to work my way back up to the treadmill.

I hate not moving about but my job just requires me to sit and wait for the phone to ring.
If I goto the ladies the phone usually rings so I have to hurry things up.
I could walk to the kitchen but thats were the food is.

Excuses, excuses but true.

Ok, I get it. Take it easy on the back recovery, another example where slow and steady wins the race.

One thing I forgot to mention earlier...

Last week, Tuesday, I went to the Dr for a checkup and my bp was starting to rise a bit, 137/79 isn't too dramatic but historically it tends to go up with my weight. Both my parents were on bp meds and I'd rather control it through diet and exercise if possible. That's my primary motivator for keeping my weight in check. The fact that I like wearing size 8s instead of 12s is secondary. Yesterday I had to go back to the Dr for some additional blood work. I asked them to recheck my bp. The seven pound difference in weight translated to a bp drop down to 113/62 in 9 days. I've seen this before. It seems that 175 lbs is the trigger point for my bp to start going up and it continues higher for each pound I gain.

Another thing I noticed is that I had a harder than normal time getting motivated this year compared to years past. It came to me this morning that my daughter, who struggles with depression, was having a rough haul last month. I think it's more than Christmas cookies. I've been thinking back over the past year and notice a definite connection between my daughter's mental health and my own emotional eating habits. She's doing better now and so am I. Something for me to keep in mind.

JB--

Is it possible that you and your daughter suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)? I do and despite a light box December and January, the darkest months of the year, are very, very difficult.

Congratulations on the drop in blood pressure. That's even more comforting than a drop in poundage.

Small loss this am. Still on the left side of the chart Smile

Dinner alone last night was a small (6 oz) steak which I made with lots of pepper and no salt, some of the salad that I had left in the spinner (Tip: Keep a mound of cleaned salad in the salad spinner at all times. Then all you have to do is plop it on a plate and shake a little olive oil and basil on it... voila...salad.) and rosemary chibata roll.

Oh and a Manhattan, bourbon and sweet vermouth, dash of bitters. yum

Breakfast this am
Toast with jam
Large latte (made with skim milk)
A sliced pear on a bowl of Good Friends Kashi (which normally tastes like twigs and sticks, but this morning I concentrated on how nutlike the flavors really are.)

Good listening to you listening to yourself, J_B, you've made some very astute observations., better than any doctor passing by. Well done.

Down to 128--again, the loss is water weight, but it is a loss.

Facing the weekend. Mr. Noddy always "cooks" takeout on Saturday.
