And here's another method of quick weight loss:

I like to weight myself wearing my overcoat with a couple of paperback books in the pockets and my backpack fully loaded slung over my shoulder, then just as the depression of all that weight gain is settling over my soul, I strip down to my naked self and wonder at the imediate results. Very uplifting.

Misery adores company--and such charming, witty company.

My weight these days shifts between 123-128. Thanks to radiation and chemo I have occasional problems with water retention.

I really would like to lose the last 15 pounds. Today I was dragging 25 pounds of birdseed up the steps and feeling quite smug that I didn't have two bags of birdseed strapped to my body.

Resolved: I come through the Holidays without further weight gain.

I will continue my exercises through the Holiday Season.

Come the New Year (hope springs eternal), I'll stop nibbling between meals; cut out the nightly cocktail/wine/nightcap and start using the indoor track in the library basement.

When spring arrives, I'll be a vision of loveliness--or at least a respectable bag of bones.

Ditto. A big conference I co-organized, heaps of stress and rushing around contributed to gaining back what i lost over the summer. no sweats for me. no nibbling, and sensible food. somehow. resolve!

I move that the resolution be sent up for a vote.

We can't table it, the table is covered with plates of holiday fare. Rolling Eyes

Joe--

If you pass me the poppyseed pastry, there might be room for a wee motion of good sense in the fodder of good will....

Well, it's full-on mango season now!

One advantage of this is that I eat mangoes until they re coming out my ears, and then I can't face anything else - and the mangoes have an interesting effect on my digestive system. Hmmmm!!!!!!!

Margo

I remember that from my travels in India. Mango juice is wonderful if you are constipated but otherwise...it still has the same effect! Laughing

I'm sure it's all healthy, though.

Mainly due to my delicate condition this year and certainly post-op have gone over to almost exclusively veggies and fruit.

Combined with lean meat protein this is apparently the perfect triathlete diet-so here goes

In Delhi we invented a drink called the Tap Wrench (like a screwdriver) - gin and mango juice.

Kitchen Pete--

After a year of trying to eat sensibly, I'm not nearly as tempted to gorge.

Happy Holidays to you, too.

I recommend Italian Christmas fare, very rich but light, and not that puddingy feel you get with English turkey and pud

Welcome to A2K--and Happy New Year.

I'm about fifty years older than you are and last year I lost forty pounds using a combination of diet and exercise.

Losing weight is very simple--eat less, move more. Unfortunately this "simple" formula involves changing well-established, comfortable habits.

This year I've resolved that I'm going to lose my last 15 excess pounds, moving from 127 to 112.

Good that you're determined to lose weight and good that you have your doctor's blessing. Has he also given you practical advice about what foods to eat, what foods to avoid, how to exercise and all the other nitty-gritty details?

I found a wonderful new web site which will be a great deal of help in counting calories.

http://nutri-facts.com/index.php

I've bookmarked it on my computer, both on my Desktop and in my Favorites.

So far today I've eaten:

Metamucil 120 calories.
6 oz. unsweetened grapefruit juice 75
1 oz. provolone cheese 100
1 spearmint leaf 20

The spearmint leave was a reward for completing my exercises. I've closed the container and put the spearmint leaves Up High. Like most chubby people, I'm inclined to be lazy and I'm more likely to avoid the candy if it is out of reach (or not available at all).

I still have 30 minutes to do on the stationary exercycle--although the weather is balmy enough to consider a half hour walk instead.

After I finish checking my e mail I'm going out to the kitchen to prepare three or four little dishes of "nibble food": Carrot sticks, dill pickles, pickled cauliflower, radishes.

I'm also going to package the left-over holiday cookies for the freezer. Once again, out-of-sight, out-of-mind.

What have you eaten so far today? How have you exercised.

Believe me, the A2K group understands temptation--and we're a great cheering session.
