Margo,

Feeling angry? Why the change in your Possum avatar?

All,

Getting back into proper training after a few rather lazy weeks. Feeling better for it.

KP - just managed (unintentionally) to get a photo of Possum snarling or hollering or something, so I thought I'd try it out for a bit!
Thanks for asking.

Fight on there!

Olive oil is good, and tasty. Have you tried grapeseed oil? Also very good, with a higher smoking point than olive oil.

dagmaraka--

One of the hardest concepts to put across to the general public is than when you ask for "just a sliver" you mean "just a sliver".

Are these people who will feel that their celebration is more important than your figure?

Hold your dominion.

hiama, i ain't a good swimmer. with a chronic middle ear infection i can't dive or submerge my head under water much, so crawl is out of the question. biathlon would be fun though, running i can do. yes sir.

Dag: Hope you win that Volvo!

Some notes from my riding book: (the one in my head)

Training for those with little or no time.

Find the nearest hill.
Climb it.
Make note of which gear you are in at the top.
Pedal (not coast) down.
Ride up again in one higher gear.
Do this till you run out of time or gears or both.

Go home shower and go to whatever you were late for when you started.

Using this technique in the long term:
You'll hit a point where it is too hard to go up a gear, so go down two and ride up using that gear until it is easy. Believe me, with enough climbs, it will become easy. Then go back up a gear again until that one is easy and so on till you not only don't see hills as evil, you won't see hills.

Arrow Check out Freewheel.com It's a cross state in Oklahoma. Great riding, though this year they are crossing the hot, hot, flat western side Rolling Eyes , maybe next year for you.

Joe

PS weigh-in this am 224.6 even after having dinner and drinks with Frank Apisa last night at Live Bait.

Weight this morning, 123. I'm feeling smug--although part of the loss is probably due to getting off the pain meds.

OK, Noddy! Enjoy the reading; take those victories wherever you find them.

I have been back-sliding lately and the weight is moving back up.

Went for a bike ride Saturday morning. Got a flat and had no spare. Another lesson learned (I hope).

BTW, Joe and Dag, my bike rides have almost nothing in common with yours. You folks do some *serious* riding.

George--

Unfortunately, scales are relentless.

The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all your Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all your Tears wash out a Word of it

I will spare you spare tire analogies.

I have flatlined this whole week.
that's not completly true
I gained about two pounds over last weekend
(too much whitefish salad)
but have shaved it off again.

still 224.6

slightly above slopeline, but still on grade to make goal by Christmas.

Joe

I'm either "just under 123" or "122 and a bit". Last week I was a solid and glorious 122. Perhaps my gain is a phantom gain. This week the scales were moved--as my one-legged grace and agility increase, I need less specialized bathroom equipment. Perhaps the gain is really 8-10 flabby ounces.

This morning I have a doctor's appointment--and he has REAL scales. Of course I'll be fully dressed--right down to shoes, full of morning tea and breakfast, but those are REAL scales.

Thanks for the heads up, Margo.

Got a new toy which should motivate me, a GPS
device worn on the wrist that calculates time, distance and pace as you run.
