My fine online friend, cav, has said it. Quite true.

Writing from Oslo (yes, away from home for work - AGAIN!!!)

I'm weighing myself each Saturday morning when I get up, to give some kind of consistency and not be put off by daily fluctuations - last week I was down to 101.3kg, from 104.8kg one month before, i.e. I've lost 7.7lbs!!! Very Happy

Personal Training each Saturday morning - my man nearly killed me last week - I felt faint, threw up and couldn't straighten my arms the next day (pull-ups, even assisted, were the KILLER!). Rolling Eyes

Working about 12 hours per day so little chance to exercise but really trying to keep the calorie intake down - I haven't had an alcoholic drink in nearly 4 weeks, which has made it easier.

Also - haven't had a cigarette in 7 weeks - and counting. Very Happy

Feeling much better for all of this stuff, though I was moving like an old man on Sunday/Monday. This Saturday's session HAS to be lighter, if I'm to survive.

I'll keep you posted.

onyxelle - go for it - it's possible if you get in the right mind set - use this forum to keep yourself motivated.

Super G - good luck - I hope it all turns out OK for you. Fingers crossed.

Kitchen Pete--

Losing seven pounds in a month when you've given up cigarettes is very impressive. Could your personal trainer suggest some exercises that you could do in odd moments in quiet corners? This might make Saturday mornings less of an ordeal.

Oxyxelle--

Welcome. As Cav and Kitchen Pete have told you, we're here. Post triumph. Post lapses. Post instead of nibbling (but not instead of exercising).

In General:

I'd sluffed off exercising in the last month. Mr. Noddy was hospitalized for pneumonia. In the hospital he had another heart attack. Now that he's home the winter of 2003-04 looks like another period of time spent on the Frontiers of Medicine.
I'm back to exercising--and I've stopped indulging myself with fistfulls of goodies. I'm hoping not only to hold my own through the holidays, but to take off another five pounds before the New Year.

I am happy to be here - already I am feeling the support & today with my quickie lunch I had WOW chips instead of the regular :-)

now, i have a question:

I am a mom & work full time. have no time to go to the gym (although I have lifetime free membership) after work because I have to be home in the evenings. hubby has rehearsal 3 nights and church 1 night of the week & no babysitter for the girls.

I ALREADY get up at 5:00 a.m. to get the household ready for the day and I am usually tired by the time I'm done w/ my regular evening chores & activities..not to mention it's dark outside by then.

i don't relish the idea of waking up at 4:30 a.m. and tire myself out before my day has even begun. Is there anyone with a solution as to how I can get excercise in w/ this schedule???

Margo--

Many thanks.

Onyxelle--

For starters, aim for 20 to 30 minutes of vigorous exercise most days. If you miss a day, remember, you aren't a failure--you just missed a day.

How old are your girls? Could they go to the gym with you and be trusted to sit quietly for 20-30 minutes?

You don't have a 20 to 30 minute block of free time? Do you have 4, 5 or 6 five-minute blocks of time?

Granted, with the winter nights closing in outdoor exercise is neither appealing or particularly safe. What about running in place? I hate running in place. I flop and I wiggle and my dignity is compromised. At my age I have permission to walk in place instead--but running to nowhere burns more calories and builds more endurance.

Start with running in place four times a day for one minute.

Next week, four times a day for two minutes.

By the fifth week your circulation and respiration will be in better shape--and you'll probably have more energy.

Check your local library and see whether you can find some simple exercises to do at home (and the girls can do them with you, following your good example!)

Good luck.

Noddy's "Hold your dominion" may be the most inspiring phrase ever said. Before I read it here, just over a year ago, I was 40 lbs. heavier. All my old clothes fit me now, and the new ones need altering. Hold your dominion.

Oxyelle

Can you do some work on the stairs in your apt complex, rather than taking the elevator?

Journeys by car that could be done on foot?

Just see if you can make every day life a bit more energetic. Easy to say - it needs a slight change of mind set.

As the old saying goes "nothing tastes as good as being slim".

Go for it! This is just the preparation stage.

Thanks Noddy. I will forever carry 'hold your dominion' in my head. I am not doing anything special really....I have a slow metabolism, so I simply altered my eating habits. I only eat when I am hungry, and only enough to make me feel just full. So, I eat small things maybe 5-6 times a day, sometimes more. Keeps me boosted, and speeds up the metabolism. It's not too far off from my old caloric intake, it's just getting processed faster.

Yikes! Yeah, fasting is the worst. Thankfully Jews only need to do it one day a year. I do feel for those Muslims though, during Ramadan.
