Family Dramas! I hear you, sister.

As for the Rewarding Snack: I've been using a combination of savory snacks (salted herring, smoked oysters, intense cheese, pickles of all sorts) and pre-packaged snacks (cheese popcorn, baked chips, gumdrops).

I do the pre-packaging and set out the savory buffet in the morning when my resolutions are firm and my spirit is strong. All the while, I assure myself that I'm worth the advanced planning and I will deserve all of these minor rewards.

Great idea, Noddy. How goes it with you?

Another good day yesterday but today will be a struggle. Family gathering here, which means I control what's put out for food but I tend to serve to please.

177 this morning. 2.5 mile walk done as well as biceps/triceps exercises. I'll be thrilled to see the same number tomorrow.

I was up a pound at weigh-in today - 175.4 - darn it. I was really good on the weekend at my 30th high school reunion, but not so good these last couple of days that I've been back. Time to buckle down again.

JPB--

With luck, I'm entering a period of uncommon calm and serenity. I'm also off my diuretic which means the scales are creeping up slightly.

Thanks for asking. There are times when being the only adult in the house are taxing times.

Mac--

The trouble with dieting is every good resolution has to be implemented every hour of every day.

(Chanting, I wanted only one whole grain fig newton, only one whole grain fig newton...have another cup of tea and forget about whole grain fig newtons and everything else in that cabinet. Forget, forget, forget.)

I'm sure 'taxing' is an understatement, noddy. I hope your period of calm and serenity lasts for a good long time -- enjoy.

Mac, you're on top of it. It will happen.

I survived the family gathering and managed a one pound loss in the process. Exercising moderately each day has made all the difference.

I did some math this morning... The daily calorie requirement to maintain 175 lbs is 2100 cals/day or 14700/week. To lose 2 lbs requires a 7000 cal reduction in decreased consumption or exercise. Eating 1400 cals/day is 9800 cals/week leaving a gap of 2100 cals from exercise (300 cals/day) to meet the 2 lb loss.

Well, it's been a few days since my last update.

In the last 3 days I've eaten 4445 calories (1481 / day). I need 2,200 calories / day to maintain.
I've ran 8.47 miles in 89 minutes (burning 1,160 calories).
I've lifted weights 2 of the 3 days.
I biked around the neighborhood for 30 minutes for a total of 4 miles.
I've walked 30,480 steps according to my pedometer.

As far as weight loss, I was at 181.2 on Monday, today I was at 180.2.

Still on target for my goal weight by labor day, and nothing to take me off target except for another Phoenix business trip on the 20th to the 24th. This one should be more relaxed and allow me some time for exercise though (I hope).

Will there be before and after pictures, maporsche? You're doing great and I was right. You will likely weigh less than I did on Monday by next week.

I may have a few before pictures....I'll have to check it out.

Great job on keeping yourself in line during the family visit.

JPB--

Thanks for the kind words and congratulations on not being driven to food and drink in the bosom of your family.

Maporsche--

Impressive progress.

************

I checked the scales this morning after five days off diuretics and I've gained eight pounds. My blood pressure is also rising. Back to diuretics and potassium.

Today I went out for a relaxing lunch and came home with some strongly flavored cheeses and Italian hams--a little will go a long way. I also have some new exotic teas--pampering with zero calories.

Once I survive the Dog Days....

Well, I was 179 this morning. And today, I took my new bike out for a 37 mile ride. It ended up taking 2:47 minutes, which is longer than I would have liked, but there were a lot more hills than I would have expected. I'm sure it's just me, but it always seems that hills keep going up but never back down.....Based on some of the online exercise calculators, that trip ended up burning about 1900 calories, so my weigh in on Monday morning should be pretty impressive.

How is everyone else holding up this weekend?

My gain while off diuretics was probably five pounds water weight and three pounds of lard.

My grace period is oooover. Phooey. I'd dropped a size (had been creeping in that direction, definitively got there) and then went shopping today and the next size up (the one I dropped from) was what fit better. Double-phooey.

Tentative gym-mom date scheduled tomorrow, though (will try to confirm it), and school's starting before long..! Really really really looking forward to that.

Do you always buy the same brands, sozobe? (I am thinking not). It has been brought home to me yet again how sizes vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. I've worn from 12 - 18 over a bunch of years, and have had some clothes left of each. I've lost some weight over the last few years, approaching 30 pounds.

In going through my packed stuff recently, I've found an eighteen that is tight (several nicely too big), a twelve that is perfect, a sixteen that just makes it, a fourteen that is fine. I don't attribute that to shrinkage or bloat in the fabrics.

I remember that high end department store Misses wear used to be undernumbered as some sort of boost to the buyers' egos.

Point being, I'd not let my mood rely on sizing.

osso, I agree completely about the variation in sizes in women's clothing.

I do let my mood rely on sizing when it's a happy thing. I recently bought (and wore) my first size 12 jeans ever. And yes, they are Liz Claiborne (on sale, with coupon - wouldn't have bought them otherwise) but I'm pretty damned happy about that size.

Oh, I agree. I don't buy only certain brands but I own a lot of clothes from the places I shopped at yesterday -- Eddie Bauer and Gap -- and know the sizing very well (down to different fits of pants/ shorts -- Eddie Bauer's Blakely fit is curvier than Vashon fit, etc.)

It's not just the sizing either, I'm definitely looking a bit poofier after a couple of weeks of "hey, not bad!" The free shrinking was fun but I knew that phase would end.

Size 12, go mac!

We had the full complement for dinner (even Hermione!) last night. In a
celebratory mood, I took full advantage of the buffet at the Mandarin
Reading. This morning, Mr. Scale brought me back to reality.

Soz--

The First Day of School is a celebration for all generations.

Mac--

Congratulations on that Size 12. Will you wear it to the next weigh in?

George--

You and I share a talent for celebration and a reluctance for following the celebration with a bit of austerity. Forward!

Good for you. I went over to the ophthalmologist for a Visual Field Test. Any calories burned were from pure frustration.
