Alright, I really need the accountability,

I'm 150 lbs. 5'8" size 4-6.

I didn't go to the gym today.

I didn't go yesterday.

I probably won't go tomorrow,
but I will stop drinking beer which has contributed to my 20lbs. weight gain in the last year!!

Well, you're still within the normal range, which is good news. Good luck on quitting drinking, I have been on the wagon for about 4 months and it's been WAY tougher than eating right.

Welcome.

Do you want to lose all twenty pounds? Can you cut the beer without cutting your social life?

Now, THAT was hard. And I was not successful. It is really hard to be hanging out and not drink....poker games aren't the same, BBQs are much less exciting, etc.

I hit my lowest weigh-in and body fat % this morning:

182lbs and 18% body fat

It's been a good week, I don't think I've gone over 1500 calories and I've logged 8.8 miles running/walking with the dogs so far this week. I've got another run tonight (4 miles) and a 5 miler on Sunday so I'll report back Monday morning.

Down to 181.2 and 17.2% BF. At this pace I should be at my goal weight by Labor Day.

I ended up doing 4 miles on Friday and only 4.02 on Sunday, but I did walk the dogs all 3 days for 2 miles each day, but it was a pretty slow walk.

Also, yesterday I bought a road bike to change up my cardio routine a little bit so that should be fun. I'll take my first ride tonight, probably going only 15-20 miles.

Unfortunately, over-eating is part of a habitual lifestyle.

Of course, once you recognize the habit....

Well done, maporsche and additional kudos to ehbeth -- pics would be cool Cool

I have a feeling maporsche will weigh less than I do by next week. The festivities are over for now as is the on-going family drama (crosses fingers), so I should be able to focus better. I did just over 2 miles on the treadmill this morning at a moderate pace and a few chest and back sets with light weights. So far, so good with my back. I noticed my left hip was hurting on the treadmill this morning which usually means that I'm compensating for my bad right knee -- sheesh, I'm a mess. I should get new shoes to see if it helps.

I seem to have this strange reaction whenever I lose more weight than I
expected: I immediately -- almost unconsiously -- overeat. Must be
some atavism from hunter-gatherer times.

George, maybe you could come up with a pre-planned reward that doesn't include food. Not that I don't do the same thing, mind you, but I think we sometimes give ourselves a cookie or two for a job well done. It's easy, quick, temporarily satisfying, and available in the middle of the night.

Perhaps folks can offer suggestions to both of us.

I did well yesterday. Down 2 lbs of mostly water, but it keeps the motivation going. I started another food diary to get on track and came in at about 1350 calories for the day.

Let day 2 begin!

I noticed a small bit of puffiness around my waist yesterday. I was a bit alarmed because it caused a bit of distortion on my washboard stomach. Upon closer examination I realized it was a small amount of fat. I've never encountered such a phenomenon before and I gasped and then recoiled in horror.

Several sit ups took care of the problem, but, I will tell you this... I was damned scared for a minute.

Damned scared.

This same thing happened last year, it messes with my head but is also fun --

Not exercising, but I keep losing weight!

Gym mom is out of town, and haven't been able to coordinate anything else during hours that the gym is open and I'm available (i.e. not at home to make dinner, eat dinner, or get kid to sleep). Gym mom and I have a date for next Monday, so will be able to get back into it then, at any rate. (And still have school starting to look forward to and to kick things up a notch.)

It's not about what I'm eating -- I've steadfastedly refused to think about diet (I always eat reasonably so there isn't anything obvious to cut out and I choose to focus on exercise) and have been eating about the same as always. (I'm not talking about a super-healthy diet here, just reasonable -- the occasional ice cream or brownie, the occasional burrito with everything, but generally lots of fresh fruit, fiber, vegetables, etc. and reasonable portions throughout.)

Anyway, I'm hoping that with this head start (which I think is the metabolic changes kicking in even though I am not currently exercising -- it's always a delay before it kicks in and then a delay before it fades), once I DO get back to exercising things will move faster than they had been. We'll see.

I have the answer. An exercise bike, foldable, on which I can sit and watch crap TV as often and as long as I like. Magic!!!!!

JPB--

Family Dramas! I hear you, sister.

As for the Rewarding Snack: I've been using a combination of savory snacks (salted herring, smoked oysters, intense cheese, pickles of all sorts) and pre-packaged snacks (cheese popcorn, baked chips, gumdrops).

I do the pre-packaging and set out the savory buffet in the morning when my resolutions are firm and my spirit is strong. All the while, I assure myself that I'm worth the advanced planning and I will deserve all of these minor rewards.

George--

Glad to meet another recipient of the Hopeless Hunter Genes. Even when my Ancestors advanced to the Flocks & Herds stage our cows gave natural low-fat milk and the hogs were rangy, tough and mean spirited.

Consequently I'm prone to gorge on lovely, lovely fat (the better to store it on my gut, thighs and hips).

Gus--

A stitch in time creates a pucker in the universe.

Material Girl--

Good that you enjoy badminton. Any exercise is good.

Soz--

Ripeness is all.

August will pass. School will open.

May your metabolism continue its high idle.
