First, well done, George!! I doubt that you would have walked any, but it is an occupational hazard of being in a race that the faster folks kind of drag you along at speeds you wouldn't hazard in practice. Happens to me all the time.
Yes, Noddy, running is an art form, but it is not fully recognized as such. They, runners and the folks who supervise the races, are always lauding after who? The ones who ran the fastest, right? But, in the words of the Peggy Lee tune, Is that All There Is?
Shouldn't there be a medal for the finisher with the best style?
Shouldn't there be a "Most Improbable Finisher" category?
How about they run races like car rallys? You predict your finishing average time and the closest to their guess gets an extra t-shirt.
Something.
I'm trying hard now to be a very good ten minute miler. Three miles, five miles, eight miles or ten miles, I can average about 10:30s, but I want to be able to coast along at six miles a hour. If someone could do that at various distances 5K, 10K and 15K say, wouldn't that be something to be honored for?
Joe( How about wettest tee-shirt or the driest one.)Nation
