Maybe... yep, you've lured me in.

Welcome to A2K, Ade!

Treat: Schweinshaxe on Sunday.

what's that?

Knuckle of pork. Bavarian specialty, usually served with green cabbage and bread dumpling. Dieticians hate it, but I guess they're okay once in a week. Wink

Sounds good, Thomas, enjoy! Are you using Monday as your 'official' weigh-in day? I like to plan my food treats for the middle of the week so they don't have as much impact on my weigh-ins. Noddy has the best idea ~ a non-food treat, but I get a lot of personal pleasure from food (which is precisely why I'm losing the same 10 - 15 lbs over and over again).

Do you prepare the Schweinshaxe yourself?

Basically, I step on the scale every morning and write down my weight. Thus, every day is "official" as any other.

I'm not sure I get it: This is about weightloss. This week's treat reduces my weight loss over the last day, last week's tread increases it. What's the difference?

No, it takes too long. I eat it out.

There isn't any difference if you weigh yourself daily. Those who weigh in once per week (Monday, for instance) will see a temporary blip for a day or two following a larger meal, probably from additional water retention as well as the additional food intake. I also weigh in daily, but I use a specific day when talking about weekly weight loss. Thursdays tend to be my lowest weight day of the week and Mondays tend to be the highest. It doesn't really matter as long as you don't get frustrated by a week's worth of hard work not show up on the scale the day after a larger than usual intake.

Welcome to A2K , ASM.

We're in the middle of a visit to the hamburgers. Not exactly diet central, but there are always lotsa lotsa salads and other veggies on the go - and lots of opportunities to walk. This is one heck of a vacation town.

Welcome ASM.

Good luck, all of you, with your various schemes!

I'm between sessions of my At-Work Weight Watchers meetings, so I haven't had an official weigh-in for two weeks, with another week to go. It's been interesting to take time off from those official weigh-ins. I'm still weighing at home unofficially, and the numbers look pretty good. Should be a happy day 9/13.

So far I understand. But don't the blips cancel out when you measure weight loss, as contrasted to weight? Last week's blip increases the measured weight loss, this year's blip reduces it. Thus, for example, your weight loss is from 150 to 148 lb Wednesday to Wednesday, 153 to 151 Sunday to Sunday because of a 3-pound blip. But it seems to me that the weight loss is the same whether you measure it maximum-to-maximum or minimum-to-minimum

Sure, if the blips always occur in the same day of the week, relative to the weigh in day. If you're giving yourself a weekly treat on Sunday and posting a weekly weight on Monday then the blips will average out. If your social schedule or holiday plans dictate the day of the week that a larger than normal intake occurs then it will affect the weekly numbers.

Personally, I'd rather think of myself as 148 than 151, which is why I like Thursdays. But you're right, the numbers don't matter much in terms of weight loss as long as they're going down.

I now have two days to lose two pounds in order to be down one for the week. Lunch yesterday followed by a gathering last night have provided the not unexpected blip. We're taking M to Chinatown this afternoon for a school project that will include dinner. It ain't gonna be easy!

Good luck, JPB. Chinese food tends to be salty, so even if you stick to veggie dishes, you may have a gain. (I speak from extensive experience.)

JPB--

I'm also in the two-steps-upward league. Wednesday I had a rum and coke. Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings I've weighed in at 131.
Since I've been exercising faithfully, this is bitter.

For a bright spot, I got gussied up for a doctors visit and the waistband on my Out In Public Slacks was definitely looser.

I was down one on Thursday (174), up one for the week from Monday-Monday(176). I'm going to try to get a net loss of one by Thursday and see if I can get to 173 by Thursday. Much of what I'm carrying is water weight from too much sodium. This too shall pass....

Almost the same here. Down one Friday (248), up one this morning (250). But that's mostly my mom's apple pie, the indulgence I traded in my Schweinshaxe for. Trying for 248 tomorrow; thinking of skipping dinner this evening.

JPB, Thomas--

My scales are registering between 128 and 129. Compared to the scales in the doctors office, my scales weigh 4.5 pounds light.

Mr. Noddy flies off tomorrow to visit family for two weeks. Either I'll make dramatic progress in losing weight or I'll have to give up the "if it weren't for" rationalizations.

Enjoy your respite, Noddy, regardless of what the scales tell you.

Thomas, one cannot possibly say no to Mom's apple pie!

Thanks for the kind thoughts.

Do Germans relish Mom's Apple Pie? Don't the Germans put more butter on their apples?

I was up this morning at 3:30 to get Mr. Noddy off for the airport. In the confusion, I skipped my weigh-in. I left him ambling towards the security check and came home to a distressed dog. She bases her mental health on lots of naps and strict routine.

Breakfast at 7 a.m: Metamucil, a local peach, 3 oz. of grape/cranberry mix and 4 oz. of wild salmon.

I seem to have a sore muscle in my good leg which may complicate exercising, but I'll have no interruptions, no distractions.

JPB--

Half a pound by Thursday is only 4 ounces a day. You can do it.

Clive's birthday was this past weekend and we celebrated in calorie-laden style. Mom's (his Mom) home-baked cake with made-from-scratch
chocolate icing. Why, yes, I will have another slice, thank you. Urp!

Hitting the streets at lunch today, I'll be trying to keep the intensity level
high for three miles and then coast home for a mile.

Stoneham Town Day Road Race this weekend.
