You're right, but my cupboard is full of clothes that I WILL slim into - and has been for years! It seems less of an incentive than a reproach...

I've also been dealing with those 'slim-into' clothes. They're simply not appropriate styles anymore (Dynasty-style shoulder pads, anyone?) - so, I keep 'em til I can get into them - and walk around the house in them - then toss them into the donation bag. They must be worn before they leave the house. A friend of mine took a few of my rawther dated party dresses and gave them to her daughter - apparently, they'll be part of a Hallowe'en group outfit Cool

I thought about that too, but I'm not so sure about that. This isn't America, where many poor people are fat. But maybe there's some seven-footer out there who can wear my old Jeans as shorts. They should be about the right width for him.

Funny you should say that about shoulder pads, ehbeth, I wore a 1980s well-shouldered silk dress - my one posh frock - to a party the other day and people never stopped complementing me on it. Mind you, it had a stretchy waist! What goes around....

Considering all those neo-hippies I keep seeing in Munich, shoulderpads from the 80s should be en vogue again as soon as the 2008 Punk revival peters out.

Thomas, you and I should do some buddy dieting. Dagmaraka has disappeared off the scene and my weight's creeping up again - how about we lose 2 lbs or 1 kg every week till Christmas!?

A word in praise of fat pants...

I wore some yesterday and I love 'em. I was swimming in 'em, made me feel so skinny. Plus they're comfortable.

I have a similar style a size smaller that fit, strictly speaking -- I can zip 'em and button 'em and sit in them and everything. But fat pants are staying until they're falling off of me (and when they are, they'll go, yeah).

How many weeks 'til Christmas? 16? hmmm, too much for me, but I'll sign on for 1/week!

OK, maybe to be realistic 1 lb a week is OK, if I lost 16 lbs I'd be delighted! Let's ALL do it!
We could even compare and contrast different methods, if that appeals. I reckon the 'eat half what you normally do' or 'half what your eyes tell you you want' method is the best, but it's also difficult to keep to - too vague.

We have to have an honest weigh-in this week; I possess no scales but will weigh tomorrow at the gym.

I ran outside yesterday, well, mostly walked fast.

I'll start...

Week 1:
Starting weight - 175
Plan - exercise daily (alternate walking, tape, or strength training)
Food - pay attention (avoid mindless nighttime nibbling), eat small and often. Limit, but don't eliminate carbs. Eliminate processed foods.
Drink - coffee, green tea, water, cranwater
Treat - lunch out on Friday

Starting weight: 129.

I'm aiming for moderation rather than abstemious behavior. I'm headed to the kitchen right now to convert some pea pods and peppers into User Friendly Snacks.

Then I'll climb on the exercycle. I'm back to ten reps of each exercise in my routine and working on building up my cycling from 15 minutes (with resistance) to 30 minutes.

Life would be easier if the sun were shining--but life isn't supposed to be easy.

Treat? I'm going to place a no-calorie fantasy book order.

I'll copy your template:

Starting weight: 249
Plan: Run (well, waddle) daily, at an average pulse of 140
Food: Three meals a day, no skipping breakfast, no binging in the evening.
Drink: Whatever doesn't contain sugar.
Treat: Schweinshaxe on Sunday.

YAY!!!

Welcome to A2K, ASM. It's good to see you here (and about time, I might add).

Let me introduce you; ASM is a longtime cyber-diet buddy of mine and a fellow Chicagolander. She's been following along with some of our sagas and I'm thrilled to have her here.

I'm planning one treat per week. This week is taken and next week is the Cubs outing, but after that we should plan our lunch at Las Pinatas!
