Got to lose that sweet tooth, it seems. Unsweetened trail mix is quite nice, and you can get those Japanese peas roasted, good and crunchy so you feel you are really eating something.

LOL!

mackerel's very good but maybe you should lose part of the wrap?
My business partner brought me a greasy veggie cutlet thing, must have been stax of calories but I hadn't anything else and it would have been churlish to refuse - had it with a rosé wine and lots of water in the rosy garden!

How about a walk for lunch, materialgirl?

I find that adding walks in 20 minute blocks makes a huge difference. The year that I walked for 20 - 30 minutes of my lunch, and then had my lunch, I lost a serious amount of weight.

Mackerel and salad, excellent. In fact I think I might have the same.
Are you sure your mother won't sabotage your lunchbox? Just the odd Snickers or something to make sure you fail? (Or isn't it that bad?! I have heard of many such...)

Is there somewhere nice to go and have your lunch - a park? Ducks?

Excuses approaching.

I did the walking at lunchtime things a few years back.I dont work in a very visually appealing area (a main road)so it gets dull.Nearest walking place is temptation city, they do fry ups.
I have started to move around more.If I know there is nowt on TV(my main reason for not moving)I will make myself stand up and stay standing and do something like housework.

Ive have a strong urge to buy trainers as Id like to get into fast walking in the evening.Coincidently there is a local sale on so it seems like I am destined to buy some.

I'm much like Sozobe, in that I don't trust dieting further than I can throw it, with the exception of cutting out any obvious forays into bags of wavy chips. Exercise is the thing. Too bad I haven't got myself going on that lately. I'm going to have to change my ways and get moving early, going over to the Rio Grande nature park for walks before the sun brings the temperature near a hundred. Alas, part of the reward for getting old and not having a 9-5 job is the luxury of lolling about in the early morning.

Sluggo on exercise that I have been lately, I've still lost about twenty pounds since, what, October or November, I'd say, most of that when I was in the throes of packing up my worldly goods and repacking them after I found out shipping books was cheaper via the post office. Since that good start, I've probably lost 5 lbs every three months, possibly through the circumstances of not having my own fullblown kitchen right at hand - I'm still, until next Saturday, using Dys and Diane's tiny patio refrigerator. Maybe that's the key - the Tiny Refrigerator Diet.

Anyway, 167 now, down from 173 April 10th, when I started paying more attention.

Oh, yeahhhhh, could also have something to do with not living right near the home of Sjaak's Belgian chocolates, good chocolate being one of my pet indulgences.

Hey, Oss, I didn't realise you'd actually moved... seems a long time you were in the planning stage. Congratulations on the tiny fridge diet working... perhaps I should move...

And mg, walking round to the trainers shop sounds the thing to do next! Good bouncy shoes really make a difference to your desire to walk.

Walk walk walk

It's really the only thing that works well for me. I find it difficult this time of year, as I'm just not good in the heat. Which is why I signed up for belly dance classes for the summer - they're in an air-conditioned studio, so I'll go.

How's the belly dancing going bethie?

I'm still loving my water aerobics classes three times a week. I'm trying to get over to the gym at least two other times per week to use the treadmill, etc. as well. Walking outside is not an option here until October or November.

So, we buddied up with Clary yesterday, and my competitive organism immediately lost two pounds between yesterday and today. Well, I haven't eaten much yesterday and worked out for two hours, so it's just water...but still. That's a little crazy. Going boxing tonight. Have absolutely no food at the house except for eggs.... so eggs it is for lunch. Yay. Eck.

Belly dancing's fab.

Once you get used to seeing your own belly in that long long mirror Shocked

I posted about my efforts to avoid that in MsOlga's what do you see in the mirror thread.

I'm definitely going to sign up for another cycle of classes - there were noticeable body changes in less than two weeks. I need those rewards!

Yeah, ehBeth, I joined the gym because of the consistency of it -- an exercise regimen works best for me but only if it's consistent, and it's just too hard to cobble something together with sozlet in tow and dependent on the vagaries of the weather.

How's belly dancing going?

Agree on the shoes, for sure.

Clary, I moved in late December, stayed with Dys and Diane until February when my house finished escrow. Hmmm, for financial reasons I picked the side of town that is more housing tract-y, strange indeed for such an urban enthusiast as I am, and that side of town is much less textured for any mix of housing and shops - thus one drives to market, et al. Maybe I'll become a mall parking lot walker. (I sorta hate malls.) Ah, but there is one shop area that I do find semi-charming - too bad it's not organized with any outdoor paths. Ah, well. Who is that woman striding around the parking lot?

When I used to walk or jog back in Venice, California, I'd tend to have a target place. Some of those walks were about seven miles altogether; I'd stop at a french bakery and get a croissant and coffee and water about half way through, maybe read a newspaper... even with the croissant or muffin, whatever, the pounds floated off and the endorphins kicked in.

So (thinking out loud) that semi-charming Riverside plaza could be a target destination for me, at least in months other than hot summer; it's probably three miles from my house.

(Geesh, I took a bit to compose and a bunch of responses got in -- glad belly dancing was fun, Beth, I'm still thinkin' about it. I'll have to observe one of these days, see how loud the music is. :-))

Shoes are huge. I got some super-comfy but also nice looking sandals, specifically so I'd do more incidental walking, and they're working. It's just one less barrier -- you're wearing a somewhat dressed-up outfit with not-so-comfy shoes, and need to get somewhere, and you don't want to just slap on some running shoes with that outfit (people do this, but I don't like to), and so you need to change, and it's a big hassle, and you just jump in the damn car. Vs. already wearing a nice outfit with totally walkable shoes, you just take off on foot. It's great.

Tell us more about the good sandals... I've been eyeing catalogs. The ones I think would work for me are all expensive, natch.

Yeah, I know, it was a long hunt. I got mine on sale at Onlineshoes.com, they're not pretty-pretty but they are nice enough to wear with most of my skirts and they are SOOOOOOOOOOOO comfy... waterproof, too.

Great they're on sale at Zappos now for less than I paid, oh well, has been nice to have them this summer:
